Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
Dude, you are skeptical of everything. Technology is coming whether you like it or not.
The same argument has been made for years about how online video and media convergence etc would boost .tv, we have also heard about how the growth of mobile Internet would/should make .mobi valuable.

In the end, there is little connection if any between technology and extensions/domain names.

The bottom line is that a bad domain is a bad domain, even in a thriving theme.

Some day, most likely around renewal time next year, all these newbies will realize all the money they wasted, and they will disappear from this board, never to be heard from again....Most names in this thread are absolute crap, with not a chance of a sale....

There are some decent names in this thread, but the rest defy logic....

Giles, it seems that you are heavily into the aftermarket; your 3d domains are high quality and could pay off handsomely. Of course, it could all go south if another term emerges. My question: are you at all nervous about the future of 3d, or do you think this is a sure thing?

This is an honest question with no snark intended.

I'm truly on the fence about 3d.

I personally believe 3D will be the standard within a few years. I think most technogeeks will rush and buy 3D TV's soon, and other people who are interested will wait until prices drop a bit like they always do.

Samsung, LG, Sony, Panasonic, as well as people like James Cameron and all the big hollywood studios have invested far too much money to not make it a succcess. Channel 4 has a 3D Channel, and SKY, ESPN, SONY, DirecTV are all bringing, or helping to bring out 3D Channels out this year. Foxtel here in Australia also have one in the pipeline.

I think if it was some small independent companies pushing the technology, you could be a bit more sceptical, but with the big boys on board, I think it cant really fail. Just how big it becomes is the big question......will it stop at movies and sport as 3D TV, or will all commercials, Documentaries, Sitcoms, Reality Shows be 3D as well. Will it just be TV, or will it go to laptops, Computers, Phone, Ipad, billboards, MP3 players etc etc

Most people jump on the bandwagon, even if its not something they're particularly fascinated with.

I think scour the aftermarket and dont just chuck 3D on any random word, be selective in what you pick and do google research on whats coming up and where the whole 3D concept is heading.

Just my opinion guys...good luck all

Great Posts Giles, and Lubbinit,

I agree wholeheartedly!

Ms. Domainer,
I like the way you write, just kinda thinkin out loud and typing.
I almost always do the same thing. :)

As for 3D, no one here wants anyone else to make a bad investment.
No one wants to see anyone lose any money.
There is no push here to create a mass appeall on 3D domains,
in order to create more artificial value in our own portfolio's.

I truly think that if you put an hour or 2 in researching 3D on Google you will see this is not a fad.
3DTv's, All Dreamworks Movies now to be in 3D,
Live Broadcasts of the Largest Sporting Events (Soccer World Cup is already scheduled)
FIFA.com - 2010 FIFA World Cupâ„¢ to pioneer 3D technology
Live 3D Concerts have already started just previous to the opening of Avatar,
(U2, hannah Montana, Jonas Brothers, DisneyLand just announced they are bringing back the old Michael Jackson 3D viewing experience at their parks)
Michael Jackson 3D Movie Captain EO may be back at Disneyland - Watch the movie here
and the list goes on, and on, and on.

My belief, for whatever it's worth is 3D is a huge game changer for ALL of our visual experiences.
It hasn't even begun yet, and all the major players have plans to take this 3D thing into overdrive.

I won't stop believing in 3D until I am proven wrong.
Not 1 naysayer here can deter me on this thing cuz it's coming.

Domains are a dime a dozen, will some of mine fail? Yep.
Will some hit and become valuable? Yep.
I am ready for it.

If you see a relevant 3D domain in the Aftermarket that you are on the fence about.
Not knowing what it is, but knowing how smart you are,
I would suggest to grab it.
If you don't decide to, please pm me the name.

Ok, my ramblings are done.
Oh, I forgot to say..
Good Luck Lexis on your 3D Samsung EndUser pitches.
Keep us posted.

and MrCurly,
Awesome!
3DPlayers.co.uk is at auction!
How much was the start bid?
and how high is it now?

I just picked up 3dheadtracking.com

I'm sure that just about everyone has seen Johnny Chung Lee's headtracking video on Youtube, but now it looks as though Apple and Microsoft may be jumping in this area with products that will be easier to use than Lee's homemade device (which is awesome, btw).

AppleInsider | Apple exploring 3D head-tracking, battery life improvements

Only 210 exact search for adsense as of now, but over 500,000 on the search engine (in quotes) with about 6 or 7 ads.

It's a gamble, and it's quite likely that the "3d" term will eventually disappear. But I thought it was worth the shot.

darn, 3dsales.com is taken,
that would have been nice one to reg anyone agree?

That is a good name and would make a good site. Not only for 3D domain name sales for to also talk about 3D movie theatre ticket sales, TV sales trends, and more.

Guys, don't forget that there is no limit to the number of hyphens one can put in a domain name! You are nowhere near out of good names to register -- I note that 3d--movies.com is available as we speak! Now get back to registering!

Looking forward to seeing them all on Bido next week at bargain basement prices. I can't believe that some of you guys are willing to let these fresh regs go for just a few hundred bucks each like that.

Got curious and did some searching ... actually kind of suprised at some of the keyword domains for 3D that are not taken. The list below are all available as of this post, and all have exact match search volume worth noting (some in the tens of thousands of searches per month.)

Some points worth mentioning:

1)Wherever possible I used this hierarchy: .com, .net. .org, hyphenated .com (three words or less) .info, hyphenated .net (two words only) and then all other TLDs. So in some cases, if you see a .com listed chances are it's available in the other TLDs as well -- just didn't bother listing it for obvious reasons.

2) A lot of the search volume for 3D stuff is not so much about advanced technology as it is about currently-available 3D products. While not nearly as sexy as Chicks On TV That You Can Actuall Motorboat™ my feeling is that a person who wants 3D unicorn wallpaper and 3D art for his kid's bedroom ceiling is a natural foot traffic type for any other 3D stuff that comes out in the future. What I mean is, if you're serious about getting in on the "3D groundfloor" you might want to start with the existing traffic, not the future traffic.

3) I tried to eliminate all trademark domains and domains that contained trademarks in any context. Many are available in many TLDs

4) Ditto extreme adult stuff (incest, loli, that kind of thing.) No interest in reprinting them here, but they're out there if you want to go digging for them.

Ack, I'm tired. Also note:

5) "3-D" is a whole other realm of search. It doesn't get nearly the search volume as "3D" but it certainly gets enough to warrant attention. In a similar vein, the reason there are so many wallpaper domains is that "3D wallpaper" gets nearly a quarter of a million searches per months, which I thought was enough to warrant drilling down into the long tails a little.

•••
Nah; I have a couple of "legacy" 3D domains that are good ones, but I've had them since Broswe3D and 3Drooms were failing to Change the User Interface As We Know It back in 2002-04-ish.

It comes as no surprise to me that people can not sell their 3d domains. The seasoned experts already posted here and said as much. 99% of the domains posted here will not sell. Why people continue to register them is beyond me. This thread has been a big hype and has lots of people buying worthless domains. I wish you all the best though. Why not try another niche? The good 3d domains were registered long ago.

•••
I just bought 3DHU.com from snapnames for $5

Nice buy

HU = Chinese family surname
HU = Hungary country code

There are 31 other abbreviation HU - Definition by AcronymFinder

Nice buy I would rather own these types of domains..then some of the new regs people seem to be buying.

Short domains always sell

This domain just takes someone from China to want the domain..and it's sold after all there is alot of Chinese people with a surname HU :sold:

i have not been to bido for ????? maybe i should look , many do feel the start of a more 3d style web is comming of not here already , certainly the 3d sales have picked up compared to this time last year ,

As mentioned a few times in this thead , the adult side does seem to be searched for ?

i think it's a year or two down the track when 3d gaming follows the wave of the 3d movies that it starts to become a standard

Thanks evirtual1. You seem to be the only one that is consistantly providing opinions to others as well as adding valuable input to the general discussions.. :) Will be adding more rep points if I can!;)

I agree. I have tried to keep my most of my 3D reg's limited to "product" domains and "service" domains.

For example... some of my "product" related names include..

3dhighdefinitiontv.com
3dhighdefinitiontvs.com
hd3dtv.tv
highdefinition3d.tv
3dhometheatres.org
hd3dhometheatres.com
3dhdhometheatre.com
3dhometheatre.tv
3dhometheatres.tv
3denhancer.com
digital3dcameras.net
digital3dcamera.net
videocamera3d.net
videocameras3d.net
3dhomeentertainment.co.uk
3dlasertv.co.uk
laser3dtv.co.uk

And a few of the "service" related ones I have include....

3dstreamingmovie.com
3donlinevideo.com
3donlinevideos.com
3dinternetprovider.com
3dinternetproviders.com
3disps.com
casinogames3d.com
3dpokergame.net
3dcasinogames.net
3dsportsevents.net
3dtorrent.net
3dmoviedownloads.net
3dmoviedownload.net
streaming3d.co.uk
streaming3dmovies.co.uk
3dmoviedownloads.co.uk
3dsportschannels.co.uk
3dgamble.co.uk
3dtvnetworks.co.uk
3dsportschannels.co.uk
streaming3d.info
3dtvnetwork.info

I have a few more in both categories... and a few that are a bit more obscure... But sticking with products and service related names should hopefully pay off...:$:

Thanks for the kind words saucey , yes products and services are the best way to go i feel , you got my 3dhometheatre.tv on a drop and i see you have hd3dtv.tv but there is no way i am going to let my hd3d.tv DROP ....... i had to set the alarm about a year and a half ago to bid on it a godaddy auction ! which i am pleased to say i won ........but i nearly had to wet the bed to do it(wake up at 3.30 a.m ) >>> LOL

Cheers

I don't and had never catered in 3D domains but no matter how it's put: if a person has money and sees a domain they want, they'll try to acquire it. I doubt 99% of 3D domains have a relevant use but if ppl wanna reg them, more power to them.

3D Garbage Dump :!:
(This Way)

And you guys wonder why I don't post on this thread very much anymore?

It's because you have made it a garbage dump!

Remember, We need eco-friendly posts to make 3D domains marketable!; at least the premium ones anyway....

For hand regs, it would seem that one should focus on .com. At this point, most hand regs are speculative anyway (if we are to be honest), so why reg a .biz or .us?
Finally one sensible thought.
Some people should remove their blinders and have a *hard look* at the domains they are posting (just ignore the '3D' portion) because most do not even qualify as reg fee domains. It's an endless stream of unlikely combos. Many domains do not make sense at all, even when you're trying to 'think outside the box' (another newbie mantra).

It's SO easy to get caught up in the moment. Three years ago, I got caught up in etv domains. It wasn't even a fad, but I thought for sure that something was going to come of it, and I ended up regging about 200 of them (I have about three left from that frenzy, etvfeed and one that verges on a BIG TM, App + etv--I was so focused on the etv part that I didn't even realize it until a lot later--and Appsetv). It was a tough lesson to learn; I was a total newb who knew nothing about the numbers associated with domaining.

My point is, I tend to be more careful now. I do check out 3D on the aftermarket, and if I find one that looks really good, I'll bid on it (but not too high--haven't got an aftermarket one yet) or if I'm not sure, I'll wait until it drops and, if possible, pick it up for reg fee. If I don't get it, no worries. Domains are like trains; if you miss one, you can always catch the next one.

The problem is, for those of us who have impulse issues, the chase is half the fun, the "getting" part is almost a letdown, the time when we start second guessing ourselves.

Domaining IS fun, but it's also a business in which one can lose a lot of money. Any one of the .com 3D domains listed here could hit the big time, even an oddball name like 3Dbald. Who would ever think that Chat Roulette would be the big deal that it is and that CamRoulette would follow its coat tail and sell for the low six figures?

But understand this: with 3D domains, we are engaged in a form of gambling, and most of us will likely lose. But let's not make it such a big loss that we have to sell our homes or cars or keep food from our families' mouths.

JMHO.

:)

Some of you are just blatantly wasting your money. I mean, speculation is one thing; but a good number of them don't even stop to think, how the name can be a viable business model?

What is anonymous3d?

It just doesn't make any sense. And if it did, wouldn't anon3d.com be a better choice?

Stop it guys. You're all wasting your money. Save it and buy 1 or 2 decent keywords an end user can use to start or represent an online business.

This 3d thing is gone too far. Most names listed within this thread will never find a home on the web besides a parked page.

Unbelievable.

Has there been any substantial sales of 3D domains on SEDO or BIDO lately?

Thanks,
LexisDomains

when you think about it the sales have really picked up ,

some of the sales listed at dnjournal

3dtvs,info over a grand
3dtvgames.info over a grand
3d-tv.co.uk over 24 grand

Plus 2-3 weekly smaller sales at sedo , plus the sales that d-k talks about and other forum sales , once put into prospective it is only early days amd a good sales volume , i wonder if the naysayers said the same thing about the 'i' and 'e' domains as well

I am waiting on a sale for a 3d poker name , buyer has been told to offer via sedo

Most people here are smart enough to know not to put all their eggs in one basket , but i think if you act like a sheep you will always live in the same paddock, another thing about this thread i like is that i have registered a few non 3d names as a result of some of the discussion , i have a few motioncomic/book names and a motioncontrol name as well because of reading this thread

Good luck to all !

@dotstop

movie or movies?

It depends what you're selling. I'm sure movies is better most of the time. If movie is a modifier then singular. I.e moviemagic is better but magicmovies is better as examples.

I don't only bash. I own 5 3D domains myself and posted in this thread when I bought 3DShutterGlasses.com

There is a difference between a quality domain that is likely to find a buyer and garbage. There are some good names in this thread, but the vast majority are just bad.

People caught up in the hype should put their credit card away and do more research first.

Brad

i hate to break this to you bmugford... but 3d glasses are going to be in and out quicker than anything on this thread mentioned .. 3d glasses are the BIGGEST downside to 3d right now ... amazon is ALREADY taking orders on glassesless 3d tv's ... explain to me WHY i would spend even $100 for your 'long lasting' name when it will become COMPLETELY OBSOLTE within 9 months?? (talk about Betamax!!)

you actually went out and bought THE ONE thing that people don't like about 3d... and you're gonna tell us about long term names and potential??

seriously though .. think about that

what are the other four 3d names you have?
any better than that, cause i am NOT impressed with your SUPER-SHORT term thinking

OK ..... I have some feeback via pm.. Thank you :tu:

There is ALOT of good in this thread and it would be a real shame for many that have taken part, enjoyed and taken away much from it...
for it to be closed because of a few ..

It's not great to see new members starting with comments of popcorn. this is NOT what this forum is about.. and if all you are looking for is 3d spats... please move on ...

I am re-opening this .. and ask not only as a mod but as a fellow member whom also enjoys reading the threads that discussions remain civil and on topic..

Thanks so much..
