Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

Guys, don't forget that there is no limit to the number of hyphens one can put in a domain name! You are nowhere near out of good names to register -- I note that 3d--movies.com is available as we speak! Now get back to registering!

Looking forward to seeing them all on Bido next week at bargain basement prices. I can't believe that some of you guys are willing to let these fresh regs go for just a few hundred bucks each like that.

I like 3d motorsports best.

On another note, your short 3d .coms, if you look at 3d sales at domaintools you will see a whole bunch of these were sold for $5 each at snapnames recently.
Good luck.

That's why i love this forum,as a noob I'm learning all the time. I thought we were allowed only ONE hyphen!! This has opened up 1000's more domain name opportunities I'd never thought of.I'm going to reg 3D--Fights.com, my thinking being that the two hyphens could represent boxing gloves touching before the start of a fight.

What do you think Frank? Is it a goer?

I'm not a naysayer by any means, but it might be a good idea to give your cc to the wife for a while.

I'm not a "naysayer" either ... the 3D market no doubt has another upswing in progress. It's just that this is hardly 3D's first upswing, and once a technology becomes ubiquitous the prefix becomes obsolete (who goes shopping for an electric stove? No one. What was once the standard -- wood burning -- is now the long tail niche. [leaving gas-powered out of the equation for simplicity's sake.])

Sure, any observation that I or anyone else could make about this thread pales in comparison to the simple amusement to be garnered by reading it, but the listings at Bido the last couple of days have just had me rofling and I see many of those domains here in this very thread. It's one thing to think that pretty much any keyword with "3D" appended = a great domain; altogether another to think highly enough of it to list a whole raft of week-old regs at hundreds and even thousands of dollars each on an auction site. Just couldn't resist commenting. I promise that from here on I'll leave you guys to your tulip mania in peace.

Wait, wait, one thing though -- a quick check indicates that 3dTulipMania.com is currently available. There's some money on the table right there.

I will also say, just to be clear, that there are some very good domains posted in this thread. Just not ... a lot.

And in my defence, perhaps I don't pay close enough attention to fads, but it's hard to think of any other buzzword in recent memory that has so captured the minds and wallets of the domaining public. I hope whomever came up with this is getting massive kickbacks from GoDaddy, Namecheap et al. for the sudden uptick in revenues.

And now I'll hush.

...IMO 3D Playa .com was a good reg last night, and the 499 discount code price made it an even sweeter find... at this late stage. Though I am sure there are some 3D Playa haters who have another opinion. And, of course... I got 3D Playas .com as well.
When I first saw "Playa" I thought you meant playa as in Spanish for "beach".

Hmmm, beach babes in 3d! Me likee... Would love to see some 3D action shots of womens' beach volleyball.

Might keep this in mind in case the whole "playa=player" substitution thing doesn't work out.

Frank,
I understand where you are coming from, and your input is valuable, although complete newbies could be mis-led by your wit.
There are people at all levels here, some can't see any value in a name unless it has existing search volume, some think that just because it has 3d somewhere in the name it will have value, some invest at a low level in brandable names that may become of use to someone later, and some register hundreds of names in the hope that one will sell for big bucks. I am sure that what I called 'naysayers' have good intentions, and are probably going to be proved right in what they say.
There are some good names posted here, but it is human nature to believe in your judgement and it takes a while to realize that you could have been wrong. All part of the learning curve, and an expensive one for some.
There, I've rambled on and on again saying things you already know
