Hi everyone! The 3D market appears to be exploding! Record takes at the box office by movies such as Avatar and Alice in Wonderland and the announcement this week of the new 3D TV which is set to hit markets shortly have helped buoy interest in 3D multimedia platforms. Even the major American television network NBC has jumped in and will be broadcasting the NCAA Final Four basketball games in 3D!

A direct beneficiary from this renewed interest and greatly improved 3D technology is the domain business. Some of you had foresight many years ago and reg'd great names early on. Others (myself included) have only become aquainted with 3D domaining more recently, but see the huge potential this market has opened up for domainers.

Let this be the place for you to show off your 3D domain names. Ask for opinions, marketing strategies or even an appraisal or guesstimation of value. Also, feel free to post any relevant news releases/articles related to the 3D industry.

I will start the thread off with a few of my own reg's..

3DHighDefinitionTV.com (also have plural)
3DHomeEntertainment.co.uk
3DHometheaters.org
3DStreamingMovie.com
3DVancouver.com
3DWhistler.com

Saucey. ;)

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
3DMOBILEPHONE.US
3DMOBILEPHONES.US

They arent called mobile phones in the US, they call them Cell Phones, thats why I left those 2 alone

This is untrue Giles - i have a very nice list of available names that are still unregged - i'll share a handful with you if interested .. pm me...

I mean the real good ones, 3DMovie, 3DGaming, 3DSport, 3DPlayer, 3-D.org, 3-D.info, 3DGirls etc etc, names that make sense and fit the whole 3D space perfectly...and Im only talking .com, .net etc major ext or big cctld's, these are the names that will make money if anything, we are never gonna get rich with .US, .biz, .org names

Still don't get the frowning on hand regged names... you probably could have saved your self a ton of money with a much higher upside if you had just tried to do so in the beginning.

95% of my names are hand-regged names, some from 3 years ago, I have bought I think 3 names from exisiting owners (3DChannel.com, 3DMovie.net, Touch3D.com) the rest are hand-regged names.

Thanks for the offer, feel free to send me the names, but Im sure I have either seen them and they dont appeal to me, because I have checked every name I would personally register.

I am only looking at the following areas because this will be the "big" 3D areas

3D products like recorders, players, phones, MP3, TV's, home cinemas etc
3D sport, sports, sporting events
3D Game, Games, Gaming, Gamer
3D Movies, Movie, DVD, Films, TV

Out of curiosity how many views is everyone getting when it comes to parked 3D names?

I ask out of interest as it may give some indication as to the current market search trends.
Also has anyone seen a significan rise in direct traffic over the last month or so both pre and post launch?

Hmmmmm I can't see many people jumping up and down with high numbers or indeed any numbers.

I hope 3D doesn't turn out to be a 3D Folly.com

For hand regs, it would seem that one should focus on .com. At this point, most hand regs are speculative anyway (if we are to be honest), so why reg a .biz or .us?

IMHO.

I have 11 3d domains, and not one of them is a sure thing, but they are all .coms, so MAYBE one of them will hit the domain jackpot. But I just can't see registering so-so domains in other TLDs.

Finally one sensible thought.
Some people should remove their blinders and have a *hard look* at the domains they are posting (just ignore the '3D' portion) because most do not even qualify as reg fee domains. It's an endless stream of unlikely combos. Many domains do not make sense at all, even when you're trying to 'think outside the box' (another newbie mantra).

ccTLD's are still worth registering. It could be a niche to target a certain country. I like the .com.au 3D domains i own.

I actually got a click on 3d video recorder.com. Somewhat shocked by that. Still think this 3d thing is a fad. It isn't really 3D it's a two level depth faking (poorly) your brain.

I took video recorder because it's very different to a regular recorder and will be noticeably so (needing to be stereoscopic)

A 3d TV really isn't - you just scan the image differently via the processor (plus they were all taken:) ).

That said. I recommend you check out theDOTSTOPs 3D dotTV domains. He has some really nice ones over there.

I like 'em all! This doesn't mean they are worth anything... although I think they are.

Hang on to 'em, and when you do sell or develop... let us know!

BTW, there are at least 2 3D names in the next SEDO Premium Auction on the 15th of April. One of the posters here managed to get 3DConsole.com in there... so that may be an option for you if you want to try to sell ASAP.

;)

Thats BIG :)

:bingo:
The International 3D Society (I3DS) found that 3D movies have ranked No. 1 at the box office for 10 out of 14 weeks this year. Clash of the Titans, How to Train Your Dragon, Alice in Wonderland and Avatar have generated $1.2 billion in domestic ticket sales out of a total of nearly $3.6 billion.

3D ticket sales for Alice and Dragon have accounted for 65% the films’ domestic revenue and 80% for Avatar – the top grossing movie in history.

“This is truly remarkable performance in that out of 127 general market films released, just four 3D movies captured 33% of the total dollars so far this year,” said Jim Chabin, president of the I3DS.

so maybe my MotionControlSuit.com doesn't seem so far fetched afterall! (TOTAL speculation!)

I know it seems kind of crazy, but when i researched Motion Control and learned more about it and what it can do, i thought, for the gaming aspect, a SUIT would be very cool and have lots of different gadgets and gizmos working off of it. (yeah, my mind can have some fun with me at times)

...so this has been kept quiet up until today because i thought i was crazy! haha

anyway ...
.. i also grabbed 3dMotionControllers.com as well
This is a LIVE site, actually.

It is setup with Amazon products for motion controllers - although not the same motion controller tech that we are talking about here (cad and animation controllers) ... i've actually moved up to number 36 on G for '3d Motion Control'... could be some hope there :) ...

Very nice reg evirtual .. i punched that name in godaddy a few times hoping it would appear!

but yes ..Motion Control is extremely cool.

I have to agree with MsDomainer and sdsinc's views at the top of this page.. I see some great 3d domain names in this thread like the ones R.C.S shared with us. On the other hand there are lots of gTLD and ccTLD 3d+keyword (or keyword+3d) combos that I just dont see being ever sold. Next year lots of 3D domain investors will be faced with some serious renewal $$$ issues.. Without even realizing it domainers are weakening the 3d domain market for the future as 80% or more of these landrush names will probably drop at some point.

I not saying there are no good 3d domains left nor am I saying that 3d names are all crap.. Just be choosy when registering or buying on the aftermarket. If you absolutely MUST to get into this niche and have a list of say 20 3d domains you want to register do this: 1) take your list of 20 and reduce it to your top 5 names 2) put the list away and come back to it in 24 hrs 3) choose the top two names from that list and register them (assuming they are not .me, .info, .biz, or .cc). 4) wait one week before you buy anymore 3d domains. good luck to all... :]

Good advice for the NEXT big niche, but far too late for this one.

^^ hehe, depends on how good or bad you are at choosing names

Some should just toss the list and remove credit card info from their registrar, but i'm not trying to start any wars.. just offer some friendly advice. I obviously am late to the 3d game. I registered one so far, I am happy with it.

I'm certainly not compiling lists of 3d names to register or actively looking for more names in this niche.. but I subscribed to and drop into this thread once in a while to see if what's going on.. If I see a 3d domain or topic here or there that catches my eye I'll check it out.. Once in a while I find myself checking to see if a random 3d domain is already reg'd that's about it.

I have only 8 off the wall 3d domains, mostly described as rubbish, unrelated to the niche, or totally ignored.
With the exception of 1 which received kind words from 3dDomainnames.
I am confident that my little venture into this 3D world will be worthwhile.

The whole 3D thing quickly became a tsunami which a few well intentioned members tried to hold back. But I agree that I am also a little concerned about the vast number which will be dropped next year. As long as people are not giving out false encouragement there is little more anyone can do other than submitting posts like yours, which make most people stop and think. It is human nature to have a certain amount of belief in what you are doing, so people with very strong belief in their judgement will not heed any advice. I hope members here don't give up trying to keep our feet on the ground. It is valuable.
