It's a tumblr blog - they get those. The author is very well known in affiliate circles, popular presenter at affiliate summit, etc. - I haven't been in touch in years but know him personally and learned a lot of what I know about affiliate marketing (and my early start in how to use Adwords effectively) from him way back when. He's branched out into other areas, but I'm sure still has a few irons in the fire affiliate-wise.

Computing History: Originally the term "hacker" was an honorable term for someone who obsessively wanted to understand how things work. The kind of person who reads source code for fun. Kind of along the lines of a wizard or a guru. (not to be confused with a dot-guru, which I personally believe is in danger of being a total FAIL when some other word becomes the "new" way of saying "guru.")

Most of the topics are really, really boring if you're not a hardcore coder, but search topics show up on there regularly. There are also HN Show threads, where people announce new products, code libraries, etc. Mostly skippable.

With penguin and manual link penalties, it's already far more of a problem than anyone at Google cares to admit. That came up in the course of the discussion too.
