VRLiveCams went for over $5k and it appears that it was bought by a dutch adult cam company.
As far as non vr stuff appearing, let's hope the new Windows Holographic headsets will at least provide a market. If the HoloLens dev edition has only sold a few thousand, that's not even the beginning of a market. There are a couple of sites who claim to be employing 3D scanning but neither of them are yet making their content available for the HoloLens or even claiming that as their intention. But there are also a couple of big names who have gone on record as saying that they see HoloLens and augmented reality as having much bigger potential than VR. Naughty America claimed recently that they plan to release augmented reality stuff later this year, but they did point out how difficult it was from the technical side.
However, I'm still surprised there hasn't been somebody trying to establish themselves as first movers, even if just releasing a rudimentary minature 3D girl dancing or teasing for a few seconds. It surely can't be that expensive or difficult to do. They could claim to have the first content and be the first site, post a hundred press releases, get covered in all the mainstream and tech media as the 'future of adult' etc and establish themselves as the number one 'holo/ar/mr' brand just as VRP have for VR.
It's almost as if the adult industry has a blindspot for AR/MR/Holo, and all the future tech minded have gone for VR, despite the similarities between (at least current) VR and stereo 3D adult which failed so recently.
Fist mover? Just not enough viewers to see anything you might produce.
But,your are spot on, I think you will be in luck when the new MR Goggles come out.
I'm expecting it anyway. Anything produced for those will work with a Hololens.
They are going to be a bridge and a help with both the VR & AR/MR folks. You have to have the HMD's out there to have a customer and these have a far better price entry point.
(Those over-excited about what to name them had better wait till the manufacturers announce it)
You might see a advanced press release to some material for those that are working on it trying to create some anticipation for those builds and get a early jump on the competition.
As I said, there is no roadmap and it's both like producing a VR video game as well as a movie.
And there are no existing tools to make it any easier or cheaper to do... YET
The average adult producer is not going to suddenly start making them.
The last tech change (from video tape to digital formats) was easy since you only had to digitize existing content (there was a lot of it). It was many years before most all were producing it in direct digital formats.
While producing a VR video is a bit harder that a standard one, with limitations on viewing angle and speed of camera panning and transitions (limited if any), controlling what is seen in a scene etc, it's nothing compared to the difficulty of a AR/MR experience. It's both a elaborate film production and a video game. At least from what everyone is expecting to see.
When someone breaks the ice on that and finds easier and cheaper ways, others will follow.
Then the idea of how much would that cost as a product and margins come to play.
It use to be produced by 'two guys and a camera'...
...LOL... No more.
Just being realistic about the timeline for mainstream and valuations folks are expecting.
You would not have got today's premium pricing for any adult name in the late 90's. No market.
Most that had a computer were getting adult via a dial-up connection. So photo's were the thing.
Short video's on a overnight download. BBS & Internet.
So if you have a premium name and sell into the early market, don't expect much.
Your going to have to hold it till the industry populates & grows.
Take your time. Expect the wait.
As with most any niche of these new media names.
But it is sales to end-users that will tell you where it presently stands. That's my gauge.
