The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
I wouldn't drop them, 'Holo' may still have a future. What i wouldn't do though is payout $5k+ for a holo+keyword with view to making money on it, that would be too much of a risk.
I would agree with that very much...
but add there are 'not many' names I would shell out 5k for from a investment point of view.
Not many above 2k really.
There have only been a few 'reported' sales over that 5k level and all but one were investors.
Of course there was augmentedreality.org years ago for 12k I think, and end use to add to that.
But there are many transactions that were private.

Intel's official twitter channel have just tweeted this a few minutes ago:-

I know it's not really news or if anyone's interested, but thought it was interesting after whats been talked about with Windows Mixed Reality, in that Intel still seem committed to the 'Merged' term.

the way i see it , those terms arent fighting lol . merged reality is in the mixed reality spectrum and a subset of Virtual reality .

they mentioned it in their first press that alloy is an all in one VR headset.

I don't see a problem with that.It won't change anything really.
They probably do want to stand-out from the crowd with something different. As long as it is.
But they are still going to want to be WMR compatible in any case.
Folks will want to know they can use it with the windows interface.
If you have a HMD, you know what a pain it is to take it on and off and lets face it, pining your content shortcuts around the room is pretty cool.

Intel will do what is best for Intel and it's partners. And so far, the Qualcomm competition is beating them out of the marketplace. I'm not sure how many partners they have for the Alloy platform yet outside of some of the inside folks helping put it together as a package. They ended up buying out most of them.
But it is to early to tell and to early to sell. I don't think they will have a product for about a year anyway.
I'm thinking a announcement around GDC 2018 with sneak-peeks before x-mas to get those on the fence to wait.

BTW... if anyone kept reading on @cordoba 's post link, you would have seen this...
https://www.cnet.com/news/snapchat-...cles-snap-ipo-augmented-reality-ar-pokemon-go
That AR story kinda exemplifies the situation of MR and others.

Happy Friday !!!

I think Holo does have a future, not as sure a one as I thought, and more importantly probably further away. The next HoloLens isn't going to arrive it appears until 2019, MagicLeap....God only knows. I wasn't joking when I said I have over 1K holo names. I can't afford to spend around $15k a year on renewals when I might not even make a decent sale for 5 years.

I would likely still buy HoloCams for $5k if the seller does put it back on the market for that price. But it's more of an ego thing really. I wanted the title of Holo King but really I should be content to be known as the Spanking King.

I'm still not 100% clear on what the WIndows Mixed Reality headsets will do and regards the difference between them and what Intel is doing, but from the articles I linked to it appears the Windows headsets are VR headsets that allow 3D scanned objects (holograms) to be inserted into the virtual environments. Intel, however, are sort of doing it the other way around, with virtual objects inserted into a 3D scanned digital representation of your environment.

But I'm probably completely wrong, LOL!

No you are pretty right on this.

These headsets are not true mixed reality.

However I still think holograms and mixed reality are where the future is heading.

We are probably 3 years or more away from that kind of tech however.

I remember from the old Berken's '3d next big thing' thread about 6 years ago a UK domainer mentioning that he had a list of names like HoloPoker, HoloGirls etc. So yeah, he is likely the Holo King. Still, I'm not exactly an also-ran - off the top of my head ( I'll probably be renewing these) :

P***Holo.com
P***oHolo.com
Holo18.com
HoloAdvert/s.com
HoloAliens.com
HoloBoxing.com
HoloConcerts.com
HoloChatrooms.com
HoloDancers.com
HoloFights.com
HoloGfs.com
HoloNude/s.com
HoloParty.com
HoloPlanets.com
HoloP***stars.com
Holo-TV.com
HoloZombie/s.com
LiveHoloS**.com
LiveHoloSport/s.com
HoloP***.net
HoloCams.net
HoloGirls.net
HoloCasino.net

Yeah nice domains mate.

I was always under the opinion that Holo should be regarded in the same ranks as VR.

My initial investment was VR and Holo was my second choice.

As time progressed I thought it would be a good idea to difersify my portfolio a little bit for the just encase factor.

The fact I got on the mixed reality bandwagon was a real stab in the dark to be honest.

Personally I prefer the way merged reality sounds compared to mixed reality. Merging of tech's sounds better to me than the concept of mixing.

But the reason I eventually felt most positive about mixed reality was because of the whispers appearing to come out of certain companies, techies and interviews I had taken the time to watch from beginning to end.

Still think Holo will become a force to be reckoned with eventually mate. But yes you have got to practically work out renewals vs potential return of investment.

Good luck mate ;)

Same here. In fact, the only thing I would say Mixed Reality has going for it is that it can be shortened to MxR :xf.wink:

People praising the fact that Microsoft switched from Windows Holographic to Windows Mixed Reality should keep in mind that if they can change it once, they can change it twice :xf.wink:

Also, as VRDommy implied a few posts back, the same people here celebrating the change to Windows Mixed Reality were saying that Windows Holographic would count against Holo names.

Well I didn't think that mate. When it was windows holographic, I purchased a few holographic names.

I was holding onto the hope that they wete refering to it as a mixed reality platform.

But I have said this for about a year. Not 100% sure why by but Microsoft see mixed reality as the new word for them.

I had the argument in the mixed reality thread a long time ago that Holo is more promising than mixed reality.

As time as gone on though I have just listened to what Alex Kipman has been saying and tried to get a little cover in both Holo and mixed reality.

Even if I never sell a MR domain, I am still glad I took the risk ;)

The same applies to Holo !!!

Anything can happen, we can only do our best.
Besides, Holo is still a very brandable word so it should do well for holographic content.

Basically one guy.

Other one not even close.

I see that a guy from Wimbledon owns chat, poker, casino, s**... yeah, that's the Holo King right there. I still don't know if I would swap my entire portfolio for those names, but yeah, he has the premium names sewn up. If this is same guy from 8 years ago I remember him valuing them at silly prices back then, so I doubt if they could be prised off him now.

Wow 1k, yeah i probably would take those down a bit and make it a bit more manageable. I took my domains down to 130ish. Might even take them down even more when it comes to renewals again, I just want to concentrate on really good names if possible and buy premium now, so difficult to get them though and better what you already have, I've been trying for the last 6 months, been close with a few but yeah still not managed to close a deal.

As for ego and silly forum titles, don't bother with all that, nicknames don't bring ROI and silly tag lines aren't worth $5k. If you think you can make money with Holo+Cams for $5k, then go for it, but don't go back in for it for the wrong reasons.

My biggest mistake in domaining was when I first started. I spent $3K on handregs buying every Holo domain I can think of, during the initial Hololens hype. I now have about 15 Holo domains left and I'm not even sure if I should keep those.

As most of you probably know I completely went off Holo domains and switch over to VR only, where as I do believe Holograms are the future (eventually), I very much dislike the Holo branding unless it's a super premium domain name like HoloCams, HoloS*x, HoloPoker etc.

My heavily biased advice to anyone hoarding tons of Holo domains is to seriously trim your portfolio down.

A very general tip would be if you don't own the singular, drop the plural unless it's an ultra premium word like "Girls" or "Cams" where it makes more sense to have the plural.

Great advice mate.

I know you gave me advice when I first started and I didn't listen.

It's not a failure to make a mistake but it can lead to failure if you don't start learning from those mistakes.

I think there are very few newbie domainers who don't make the classic mistakes of impulse bulk regerstering when they first start off.

Yes I did try hard to prevent some new guys falling into the same trap as I did with Holo, but it's very difficult for new guys to listen until they have made their own mistakes and learnt from it themselves. (y)
