They are invested in the terms AR and VR. That's it! Nothing in between like MR. I was watching a discussion about this between Google developers on a forum and they were obviously hinting at the fact that they are helping Microsoft by even acknowledging that MR exists when they don't even market with that term. Their philosophy is "well the stupid f*ckers decided to name their tech something different then let them own it, but we're not going to accommodate that by using XR, because we dont need to acknowledge anything but AR and VR. If they want to join us in our immersive web efforts they'll have to follow our lead terminology wise and use WebAR or WebVR because we will never push for an unnecessary WebMR API, when MS has been throwing 'mixed reality' around careless without a consistent definition like a cheap gimmick. We're not confusing our customers with that bullsh*t, so we're not jumping on the XR bandwagon".
Well...
I keep explaining...
It is a platform in which VR and AR can interact. There will be VR & AR devices that are compatible with the Windows Mixed reality Platform. But it is not a separate tech, just a interaction platform. And has become a marketing platform as well across various manufactures because of it.
But that does not mean that those that have had this confused and popularized that confusion can not get their way because of that popularization..
But it will not be long now and we shall all find out !
I just won't be one of those making all the big bucks on the MR keyword and I am just fine with that.
...
Now with those of you that find disappointment in VR...
We still have a chicken and egg syndrome. But with the Help of the price point of those WMR Goggles,
we should have enough hardware in consumer hands by spring 2018 that the whole picture looks different to you. It is forcing a preemptive lowering of prices with the big 3 as it is.
But then again for AR, we still have a content problem. But again, those WMR devices, while not letting you view AR in the way you might expect or want, will provide a baseline going forward.
Development for those WMR Goggles will help Hololens more than anyone else. Giving them a base of content before their release, whenever that might be. But the cards are stacked in MS's favor right now and it was by no and is no mistake.... YET.
