Check the blog post
Aaah, sounds good. But I am more confused than ever about mixed reality now. Are Microsoft using "mixed reality" as a cath all phrace for VR + AR?

I bet MS doesn't even know. It's why I stay clear of MR names. It falls under XR anyway.

imo it's not a good bet to stay away because it also falls under XR. To early to make such assumptions.
They will rock (IMO) .

You stay clear firstly because there arent many available lol and i think it's not a good bet to stay away because it also falls under XR. To early to make such assumptions.
IMO.

Just speaking for myself.

There is no WebMR and likely never will be, because MR is just a gimmick from Microsoft to sound different (even though originally that wasn't the case for the term). So MR devices will be forced to conform to WebAR if they want it to comply with internet tech. This will leave a bad impression on the developer community and internet users when they have to use WebAR on a MR headset, when all the other devices seem to be on the same page terminology wise and thus technologically. MS already has branding and marketing issues but this will be the final nail in their coffin when it comes to immersive tech. MS almost never learns.

Yea, anything can happen but i did a lot of research about it. It got better chances then people think, i wouldn't spend so much money otherwise (still a bet ofcourse lol)

Each with his own, i made my bets already, focusing more on renewals on all fronts :)

Ofcourse i wouldn't mind if it will be XR $$$$$$$

Notice how Techcrunch uses quotation marks every time it says Microsoft's "Mixed Reality". That should tell you that even the tech industry finds the term awkward to describe what is seemingly a VR head set.

Microsoft’s ‘mixed reality’ headsets are a bit of a mixed bag

Yes indeed you are correct.
Yet im talking about a different kind of research but again, everything can happen, thats why we diversify.

Two nice catches this evening : HolographicSmartphone and AuschwitzVR . The former currently shows up in 28,000 Google News search results, the latter 14,000.

I'm a bit uneasy about names like AuschwitzVR tbh. If an organization intending to put it to good use comes looking for it I'll probably let them have it for free or a nominal fee. At least I've prevented another domainer from simply squatting on it and listing it on SEDO for something ridiculous.

Well, put some more points on the board for the "AR" naming convention... First we had apples "ARkit," now we have Googles "ARcore!" (IMHO, overall all signs point to traditional AR/VR branding roots growing deeper... time will tell...;))

Google Unveils ARCore, Its Answer To Apple’s ARKit, But It Will Be Hard To Catch Up

Nice.

ARkit.net sold for 1k
ARcore.net is still available for a lucky guy :)

I still think my ARcreator(.)com is better then both core and kit ;)

Those AR companies that built their business on the fact that there weren't any competitors, frameworks and SDKs out there will be going belly up very soon.

AR is about to go even more mainstream now that Samsung S8 is an ARCore phone.

Interestingly, a lead dev at Google who helped to push the term XR into popularity in the dev community just went from calling himself a WebXR lead to a "WebVR/AR" lead developer. Everyone started using the term WebXR because of him and then he does this!

I know why he's doing it, and why others at Google refused to use the term XR, but I'll see if anyone else can figure it out :)

Just tell us man. I'm semi retarded. I can't figure stuff out.

I think one thing that holds XR back is the X and its adult connotations. Ironically, it might be that XR becomes the generic term for vr/ar/mr smut.

Meanwhile, as you all know market research firm Gartner released their latest hype cycle chart recently predicting another 2 to 5 years until VR becomes mainstream. Today I came across their hype cycle chart published in 1995 - 22 years ago :
