What will be the biggest flop in '08?

By the way, this IS an "official" thread - in case you were wondering :hehe: .

My guesses for biggest flops:

dictionary words with no commercial connection

.us

.tv

"brandable" nonsense words

LLLLs in anything but .com

all but the 4-5 biggest silent auctions (or was that '07?)

.biz (or was that '06?)

:)

Biggest flop I think is the domain names that the end user's customers can't pronounce... No matter how short it is... Perhaps not this year but soon, once everybody realize that what matter the most is not the end users, it is the end users' customers.

It depends on the industries, some customers will remember weird names but for an industry that has customers cycle every 3-10 years, weird names will be forgotten and generic names will raise in value.

my 2 cents

who can not pronounce?
when you are talking about short domains i assume you are talking about LLLL and LLLL.com are all reg'd and their prices rise everyday so they wont be a flop
about being or not pronounceable thats a tough question to be answered as what is pronounceable in english isnt so in other languages and vice-versa
for instance, the "Q" is very used in china; in brazil we dont have K, W and Y; in italy the alphabet has only 21 letters (they dont have the "W"!!!)

Where LLLL's are concerned, my prediction is that the prices of the non LLLL.coms will remain stagnant this year because the .coms are still being sold at a low-enough price. But anyone holding a really good 4L that's not a .com should just hold on to it if they're not sure what to do with it yet.

all of the "i" names?

i think the "i" + one good word dot com without hyphen can have good sales as we just saw the iReport.com sale for $750,000... this can motivate people to buy and sell

I think the iReport.com sale is likely to cause the registration of many poor quality "i" names. Only the best will be marketable or sellable. Most will wither.

I definitely think .asia will fail. Asia is too diverse a region for its own TLD to make sense.

.cc already has failed.

I'm not sure about .mobi.

.SC at $100 for a one year registration. Ouch

Maybe because of the pending meltdown? But there is also opportunity to really profit in such a market as well!

Good call - he's out!

It's just those paying X,XXX+ (or hand regging junk today) for traffic-free .mobis that really need worry.

Sadly it's still happening. I've noticed LLL.mobi's have dropped by as much as two-thirds in the past six or so months from their initial high after they were all grabbed. Those that bought at regfee and flipped are smiling, those that bought during the initial frenzy are now holding for the future or taking a loss. :'(

Be careful with your money - unless you have lots to potentially lose!

This is not the end of the realestate meltdown. The fraud is traced now to most major banks in loaning to those who had no qualifications for borrowing the amount to finance their deal.

My quess is as more news hits Wall St of how involved the top banks were in creating the realestate bubble and how much their losses reported are we will see how big this mess is.

When real estate turns down sharply it can take several years for growth to return.

In a hot market the bid price for ppc are much better than a sour market. My opinion only.

.mobi followed by .asia will be flops,
I dont see .biz and .name as flops, they were never much hyped and going slow and steady according to their worth. Plus .tv was a bit hyped and high on pockets but i still cant call it a flop.

haha. almost everyone who says .asia will be a flop are those living in a non-asian country, e.g America where they are unable to register a .asia name :hehe:

.ASIA will be massive, you cant simply put aside the worlds largest nations, and fastest growing economies, how anyone can honestly believe .ASIA will flop is beyond me!
