discuss If you could have a 1-on-1 conversation with anyone in the domain industry, who would it be and why?

Everyone follows different people in the domain industry and have their personal favorites. Some are motivated by those who have the biggest reported sales, others gravitate to large portfolio holders, serial entrepreneurs, old guards, bloggers, venture capitalists, etc...

With that said, I'm curious who today's domain investors are following the most, bringing me to the following question:
  • If you could have a 1-on-1 conversation with anyone in the domain industry, who would it be and why?
This could get interesting and even reveal someone others might be interested in learning more about that they didn't know much about prior.

What say you?

It would be with me 🙃:xf.grin:

I would ask myself why I spend time reading forums and doing other stuff instead of focusing on my portfolio and experimenting with landers & pricing to get best results...?

lol Interesting...

I would like to think that forum discussions with real people (Not ai) might lend a few tidbits of hands on insight into what may be working for someone else that one hasn't tried themselves yet. If nothing else, a sounding board to bounce idea's off of to see what might be sticky enough to work. :)

On a more serious note, I would like to speak with the first domainers - what gave them the inspiration/insight - I remember using the internet in the mid-90s at university and wish I had some of that.

Ah, the Old Guards of the early 90's. You mean like @Rick Schwartz who has been a member of namePros since 2007 and currently has the "Bean Stalk Challenge" venture in full swing today? (He's building out his portfolio these days instead of letting them sit).

Or did you have someone else in mind? :)

Yeah, I guess Rick would be one of them.

Frank Schilling. Because he seemed to work so systematically, even creating his own registrar, of course.

It looks like he is doing a ton of non-domain related business in his beloved Cayman Islands these days.

Honestly, no one.

It’s the collective community and range of perspectives that shape my domaining experience.

Frank and Mike Mann about systems, scale, and things such as their mothers maiden name, street they grew up on, first pets name, and what was the make and model of their first car.

Not sure security questions should be in the mix.... but.. well... Frank and Mike are good industry related choices. 😉

Excellent question!

My pick is @Nat Cohen! 👑

His domain portfolio is incredible.

Whoever is in charge of Sedo's Top Domain submission and various auctions.

I only have two questions.

In very specific detailed language, what does quality criteria not met, means?

My follow up question is, if I show you examples of domains accepted that contradict your answer, are you willing to explain why they were accepted?

Interesting... This wasn't really meant to go into support related directions... But I suppose I failed to specify a direction, so it's a fair comment :). - It was supposed to be more of an inspirational topic.

However, there does appear to be a verified SEDO support rep account on namePros that you could reach out to, potentially: https://www.namepros.com/members/sedo.3916/

Good luck!

I would probably choose someone who has seen the industry from more than one side: investor, registrar, registry, marketplace, and end-user.

There is no reason to talk to anyone because no one would share to you why they became successful in this business.
