What’s surprising is that it seems to be basing its business on a .technology domain name. As the listener pointed out, DXC.com now forwards to DXC.technology.
So a $20 billion company is using DXC.technology, paid a big sum for DXC.com, and doesn’t own DXC.tech!
Now, the merger just went through so the company’s branding and domain choice might be in flux. But based on the logo (pictured) the company seems to be embracing .technology...

Not really.....there are 1000's of niches and micro niches that won't even show up in Alexa top 100k but these are sites that getting good traffic as well.

yes but we are looking for averages not specific niches. the alexa 1 million does not look any better.

they aren't getting much exposure it is a fact.

You mean like snappa.com (originally snappa.io)? Customers who go to dxctechnology.com and see a blank page with [email protected] , they'll go like "what's going on? Blah blah blah" . That'll damage company's reputation, and trust

Perhaps, some will but the ones with at least 3 digit IQ's will go to Google do a search cos clearly they are on the wrong page

Well if we are talking about .net and .org's then I surf lots of them daily.....maybe venture out a little more...past facebook/twitter/pornhub/ and you will see alot more .net / .org sites.
Why would I ever venture past pornhub? It fulfills all my needs...

Then they might land to competitors website. Like dxcsucks.com

Actually, we were initially looking at the amount of sites that are developed and why the majority are .com's and you used Alexa as benchmark to validate that only 1.5% are nGTLD in Alexa's top 100k... and you wanted to know how long it would take to get 15%...my point was that u can't take a fraction of data (1%) and use that as a fair analysis

well if a company is allowing a competitor to outrank them for their own company name then it's their own fault for not having and effective SEO strategy.... irrespective of their TLD

No, I am not arguing the quality of Alexa stats..... like I said intially.. .com's were around 20 years longer than nGTLD's so one can not compare the amount of developed sites. You then used Alexa's top 100k as an illustration saying that only 1.5% are nGTLD's ...frankly i find that impressive in such a short space of time..but none the less, using Alexa as a way to measure nGTLD up take is not accurate... you can not look at the cream of the crop of published websites and use that as a benchmark.

it is probably less than that because ngtlds are less likely to show up on non-english language sites and much of web traffic goes to the highest ranked sites where less ngtlds are.

it does also reflect my personal experience. I very rarely if ever end up on a new G site.

Yes, this correct...I also don't see as many n G sites as I would like too....there is no denying that. I do expect this to change though. Some of my new projects are on new G's and I'm confident I will be dominating the first page for that particular niche... I plan on developing most of the new projects I have lined up using new G'S

Thats exactly why they are forwarding their precious 3L.com to . technology - to make awareness to their current customers who helped them to become 20 Billion Dollar company.

whoever owns DXCTechnology.com is gonna make bank when the "gurus" at DXC.technology realize how much traffic they are loosing.
oh and the corporate email: [email protected] will be appropriately marked as SPAM/SCAM by 99.9% of recipients.
My 2 cents...

I'm surprised no one had the balls to mention that...just maybe this 20 Billion dollar company employed individuals with more intellect than "the average" domainer. We can all hate on their choice but a company this size has the resources to simulate multiple scenarios of this decision. Also anyone saying that they are losing traffic to the .com has no idea what they are talking about. They OWN the .com and are forwarding the traffic to their preferred extension. They aren't losing any traffic whatsoever, merely directing it to the tld their company has chosen to operate under as .technology perfectly describes what their company specializes in. This isn't an example of the ngtld being better than the .com in terms of traffic...this is just an example of the fact that some business prefer tlds that describe the premise of their business...i.e the segmentation of their niche over an all encompassing generic tld like .com. Any one user typing in the .com will automatically know that this is a technology company and over time get used to typing in the .technology not the .com. The time where domainers can assume they understand the preferences of end users is over. It is time to deal with this reality and move forward. Some end users will prefer an ngtld as their client facing domain name rather than the .com because it is more descriptive of their business...DEAL WITH IT and figure out how you can adapt. Don't spend so much time arguing over something that is going against what you believe.

Having spent many years working in network security in the past, consulting with corporates that generally had 5000+ users. I can tell you hands down that your 2 cents about 99.9% of recipients marking that address as SPAM because of the email address itself is 100% nonsense.

Most of the arguments here by the nay sayers prove something I have been saying for some time. Most domainers are simply that...domainers. They like to think they are entrepreneurs but most of them are not, irrespective of what they tell themselves.
