Great sales. I don't know how you do it guys to sell on SEDO and Afternic. I listed a few but no interest. Must be the domain names :)

Nice sales, what made you decide to choose them, and how long were they listed before you sold them?

@discobull so you suggest that the domains should be at BIN is it better than make an offer. I have fears that it might be too high or too less or leave money on the table.

@kollam003 there are benefits of listing at BIN and having make an offer it's a double-edged sword. Eg. you have domain listed as make an offer for Sedo ( something brandable that's worth a few dollars reseller pricing ) you receive offer for $200 - you counter with I don't know $1,000 cause you are comfortable with that pricing and buyer accepts and you could also be leaving money on the table what if you had it listed at BIN the same domain for let's say $2,000 and you sold it at BIN to the same buyer - where are you leaving money on the table? Could be both cases just price with what you would be happy to sell and never wonder it will drive you crazy ;) .

C*a*r*b*o*n*C*o*u*n*t, purchased as a drop catch for $49, sold direct via my lander for $2,488

B*C*h*e*f, purchased at GD auctions for $14, sold via Sedo for $1,840

All dot coms

Congratulations!
Great Sales :)
I always wonder how it is possible to get people to click the buy now.
I have a few domains on Sedo only as Make an offer, I hope I don't leave money on the table by this method.
I always like to negotiate it upward.

Amazing ROI.
Total sales: $16,160(Minus of purchase prices).

Keep it up.

Congrats with the sales @discobull !

You mentioned that you have started listing domains with BIN. When you list domains with a bin price, do you list them at multiple marketplaces with a bin price? I am guessing it would only be one, since you would get into trouble with the marketplace if the same name got bought for through bin at different marketplaces. If that's the case, how do you decide which domains with a bin to list on sedo, and which to list on afternic? Also, would you mind sharing if you use network or premium listing on Afternic? Thanks:xf.smile:

Nice sales, what made you decide to choose them, and how long were they listed before you sold them?

I bought c*h*e*v*e*u*x... in July. I found it accidentally while researching the domain greffedecheveux which was an expired domain up for auction on GD that day. I first wanted to see how much people had historically been willing to pay for domains with the word cheveux in it ( french for "hair" ). One of the domains that turned up was the one I just sold and it had been purchased for $8k just a few months prior to that day so I thought it was a good indicator of current value. I then went back to GD to get an idea of what other people were asking for "cheveux" domains and lo and behold the one I'd just seen in the historic sales came up as a closeout. I double-checked everything since that seemed crazy, but everything checked out. In fact, it had previously sold on Sedo, and apparently it had been let go by Sedo Escrow, not by the buyer. Not sure how that can happen other than if the buyer pays for the domain, but then never collects it, but since it's not every day that I come across an $8k domain for $9, I just grabbed it.

A*r*t*i*z*e I bought in Jan 2014 just because it seemed like a good brandable to list on BB ( that was before I soured on brandables marketplaces ). I liked it because art domains sell well and it had two possible interpretations that I could immediately identify: 1) if pronounced as art-eyes, it could be read as a made up verb meaning to create art or 2) if pronounced art-ease, it could be seen as reminiscent of the word artisanal.

C*a*r*b*o*n... I bought because of its obvious relevance to the environmental movement and the issue of maintaining a small carbon footprint. I bought it in June 2012. I don't remember what other factors were involved in my decision, but I typically look for additional indications of market interest.

b*c*h*e*f is one of my early acquisitions, and was purchased in aug 2011. I tend to like domains with one letter in front of a good keyword, because end users like those for shortening whatever their business names are ( eg 'b' can mean 'Boston', or whatever ) so when I can find one available for cheap, I just pick it up.

G*r*i*t*e*c*h I picked up in march 2013, but I have no recollection of what my research turned up to motivate me to buy this domain.

I see there are other question which I'll eventually get to but this is a busy day for me and I have to run out. Cheers.

havent posted any sales in a while these are from the last two months or so.
N*M*O*G*A .com 1k - bought via closeouts on GD. Big site up on the .org so we contacted them and they wanted it.
P*U*R*C*H*A*S*I*N*G*P*O*I*N*T .com 1k same scenario big site up on .org. They reached out to us before we even contacted them.

R*E*D*W*O*O*D*E*N*E*R*G*Y .com 4100 Purchased in closeouts. There was 7 or so exact business name matches. Domain had previously been purchased for 1500 iirc via GD 2 years before. I found him via a linkedin profile and called him.

There's probably like 7-8 other sales ranging from 50-800 in there. I just don't remember them all.

Currently have a domain pending sale for 15k. It's a car dealership exact business match, but nothingdone until that money has been paid. Fingers crossed.

I think I may have sat on that and held out for more, but I understand a quick $500 sale is a good sale.
I've got a couple in .io that I am sitting on because I think they are great names, PROCESSORS, ATTACHMENTS, INKJET, but I am going to think about how to max those out as opposed to quick sale. I have about 30 .io in all

a quick $500 sale is a good sale.

The thing is I also look at this in comparison to stock/options trading, turning $36 into $425 after fees (roughly 1175% gain) is somewhat rare and is usually followed by 10-15 bad trades in my case haha giving my money right back to the stock market/casino. In the domain world its not really that big of a deal but anywhere else its almost ridiculous.

Thanks!

I said $1700, the buyer said 'yes'. Both sides should be happy I think, and I'm pretty sure that you know why.

I think that my own sales are too statistically insignificant to conclusively resolve that question. OTOH, all the marketplaces report that BIN domains sell more readily than make offer listings and I have no reason to doubt them since their interests are aligned with mine ( ie they make more money when I make more money and vice versa ).

As I mentioned previously, I'm in the process of switching over to BIN pricing so at present I only have a fraction of them listed that way. It's tedious work so I only do 10 or 20 at a time. At present my strategy is to give preference to Afternic premium listings, meaning that if my domain is registered with a registrar that is part of Afternic's premium network, that's the route I'll go. If it isn't, then I'm setting half the BIN prices on Afternic and the other half on Sedo just to see which of the two yields better results.

Congratulations. Did you set BINs or were these negotiated prices/offers?

A*r*t*i*z*e was a BIN on Afternic premium

G*r*i*t*e*c*h was negotiated through an Afternic broker that contacted me on behalf of the buyer. My listing was set to "make offer".

C*a*r*b*o*n*C*o*u*n*t was purchased directly at my asking price.

C*h*e*v*e*u*x*B*e*a*u*t*e was BIN.

B*C*h*e*f was BIN.
