Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here

SpaceshipSpaceship
Watch
I suggest a new thread titled Problems, Bugs and Fixes at Afternic - Report Problems Here. Then we can all list our issues so Afternic have to fix them. These Afternic probs have been repeatedly flagged up across numerous threads on here over a period of time, including the need for 2FA. Godaddy own Afternic and have the resources and motivation to fix it - this risky mess is unacceptable and reflects badly on their brand.

For info, Afternic keep reverting some of my domains to "In Review" status for no reason, and I only know that if I log in there to check on them. Until I then ask support to take them out of Review they are not listed for sale and will not sell at Afternic.

@Joe Styler When can we expect Godaddy to take action on Afternic, including implementing 2FA?

I know that it is important to have bulk management for Afternic domains. I have been continually bringing this up with our teams. I have not forgotten.

Hi Bob thanks for your reply and your work on this.

There is an attractive Bulk Edit option in the beta interface at Godaddy, but it only handles domains registered at Godaddy - this other thread tells people where to find it https://www.namepros.com/threads/ca...from-within-godaddy-now.1123235/#post-7104926 so perhaps Afternic will have something like that some day.

But in the meantime a simple edit of a database query would solve one of the most persistent and desired changes requests here on NP, and would save all of us time and money and boost sales. We would like to see 500+ domains displayed in a list there, not just 50.

What is happening on Afternic is a database request roughly like this:

Select * from Domains Where UserID = nameofuser LIMIT 50

Someone just needs to change that to LIMIT 500

So how much does it cost to add a 0 to a line of code? If the staff are telling you they can't do that, I don't know what to say.

For reference: https://www.w3schools.com/php/php_mysql_select_limit.asp

I'm not sure... Their pages are so heavy and bloated so our browsers will die. They should re-build everything. Bye bye 90's...

What is the name of Afternic's current payment processor?

Afternic are charging 2% for currency exchange - others will do it for less, so there are significant sums in play. And the same person may have bank accounts in more than one country, not least of all for exchange rate purposes.

Can anyone tell us who Afternic's payment processor is?
And whether it is Afternic or the payment processor who are responsible for the strange problems and issues created by the way they currently collect payment info:

Go to >My Account >Account Settings and scroll down to Domain Sale Payments from Afternic.
(Here your existing payment methods are listed - the Edit button is greyed out but works, after some delay)

See screenshots below of the forms on Afternic.

When you create a payment method, it asks for your address on the first page. Then on the account info page it ONLY shows fields suitable for inputting a bank account in that country, not any other country you may have an account in. Surprising. Then at the end it asks you to complete Form W8.

So to list a USA account to receive USD you could put the bank's address in the USA on page 1. The Afternic form will then accept the bank's payment details on the next page. Then on the final page it asks you to complete a W9 form (only a US Person can do that, under penalty of perjuryhttps://www.quora.com/How-can-I-fill-a-W-9-form-when-I-am-not-a-US-citizen-or-live-in-the-US ) but offers on that page a link to fill in another form, which in this case should be Form W8. But that link does not work, even when Afternic email you to tell you to use it.

Anyone having problems with this? Sounds like once again Afternic need to fix their website.

I have a frustrating issue I hope can be resolved,

what I want to do , and have proven and been told it is possible :
= list GD domains on GD auctions at one price ex: min bid/make offer
= list on afternic via beta at other price point ex: bin

and NOT have the afternic prices reflect when searching domain on GD homepage.

I was told as long as listed on GD first it will resolve this way. but i think there is some back end issues for all the domains I had previously listed a different way.

no matter what I do, there will be a portion ( est 50% ) that always will show the afternic pricing on GD search home page.

I HAVE -
=======
= deleted full listings on both afternic and GD multiple times and relisted
= added via GD , waited 24 hours ,then listed to afternic
= called support and told to email afternic
= EMAILED AND EMAILED afternic , will no response

I just want to be able to clear my afternic listiings , and have no memory of the prices that were in the previous listings. this does not seem to be possible,,,,,, especially with zero response and support interaction. ... .

who do i bill for all my time again ?

You can contact [email protected] for help with setting up the payee.

You can contact [email protected] for help with setting up the payee.

Yes, you can. And...

And they will send you a nice labeled screenshot diagram pointing out the button you should press to submit your W8. The form says "To submit a different tax form, click here."

Well you tried that repeatedly already, but try it again with different browsers, log out, log in, make sure popups are enabled. The "To submit a different tax form, click here" link does not work, no matter what Afternic support say.

Email Afternic then to tell them that, and say they either need to fix the form or submit the info themselves manually, and that they already hold the info they need since you submitted a W8 form for another payment method and so they have it on record, they just need to apply it to a new payment method.

After considerable delay they then tell you your bank account must be in your country, and no, they say there is not a coding error in the form on the Afternic website. Case closed, it seems - you will just have to accept losing up to 2% of the funds from your sales because you are forced into a poor exchange rate.

You can then point out to Afternic that their ToS do not require you to receive funds only in your country of residence, and that they have told you themselves you can submit your W8 form for a US bank account, so clearly Afternic believe, or believed, that is ok, but the website just does not work to do that. And if you can't submit it, why is the non-working link to submit it still there?

So what will Afternic say next?

Well they really, really do not want to say who the payment processor is. I wonder why?

And all this takes time, lots of it, but why would anyone accept losing 2% of all sales receipts for no reason?

I honestly think I need to bill Afternic for my time in pointing out to them things that do not work properly - some places say thank you, learn from it, pay bug bounties, fix things, want to provide a good service and listen to customers. Afternic just does not care - and short term that works for a monopoly, but longer term customer goodwill counts and as other platforms improve the lack of love for Afternic will turn into a lack of loyalty to Afternic. Good luck.

You can contact [email protected] for help with setting up the payee.

Why should we have to contact them for the routine matter of supplying bank account details? The website is set up so the account holder can input multiple methods of receiving payments, and it is normal for people to have bank accounts in more than one country, especially with modern payment methods - which drastically cut exchange rates. Even as an individual I can do USD to GBP for 0.6% fee, as a business Afternic could get an even better rate than that, not the 2% you want to charge. Should we consider that an additional commission taken by Afternic?

Yes, you can. And...

This is the screenshot sent by Afternic support to show you how to submit a W8 form when entering a US bank account/address as non US Person - clearly they accept that this is possible and expected by the form on their website and they advise you to click the link to submit your W8 form. But Afternic need to fix the link as it does not work.

It may not be available anymore, that is why I asked you a couple times to contact Afternic service. They are up to date with any of the payment options as they deal with them daily. They are in the best position to guide you with the payment settings directly via your account. We switched to a third party payment service instead of paying in house last year. We do not collect the currency conversion fee nor do we any longer collect or store any of your tax information, this is all done via an iframe and sent to the payment provider securely.
If they do not allow the payment settings you are trying to use there may be legal, compliance, or tax reasons for doing so and you would need to work with support to get the answers to the questions you are asking. It says in that picture you supplied that you are to contact support for instructions on submitting other IRS forms.

No, it doesn't say that. It says "If you do not fall under the above mentioned descriptions... contact support." The descriptions given are US Person (W9 form) and non-US person (W8 form). What Afternic support said - when they supplied that picture - was to click the link there to submit the relevant form (W8). But the link does not work. Will it be fixed?

@Joe Styler please can you tell us the name of Afternic's payment processor?

I'm not sure if I can say it publicly without looking over the contract and that is kind of a pain to get. So again, as I have stated a few times already, you can direct your questions to [email protected] they can help you with your payment and answer the provider question. It is also mentioned on this forum a decent amount of times by other members.
I cannot see inside your account to see what you are seeing and I am really in the dark about trying to help you. They have access to your account and can help you with setting up your payment. I can't get to the screen you are showing me to check it. The support team can help you troubleshoot this.

Well Afternic support have repeatedly refused to supply the name of the payment processor. The name of Afternic's payment processor is Tipalti https://tipalti.com/ and anyone with concerns about Afternic payments or procedures can contact Tipalti or ask them on social media if they are happy with the impression Afternic and their website and support are giving of Tipalti.

Actually Afternic would probably have no choice but to tell us who the payment processor is since they are sharing data with this third party - did they even get consent for that? Interestingly, Tipalti are complying with GDPR - they are on the approved Privacy Shield list at https://www.privacyshield.gov/participant_search so they too will have to give us our data if we request it from them.

I am not sure if you have read the earlier posts. It is not about my account in particular, it is about how Afternic handles input of bank account data in all accounts - their forms and the logic behind them, which is clearly not working.

The discussion and info in this thread was posted only after extensive communication with Afternic Support, who are not resolving the issue. Perhaps Godaddy management need to intervene at Afternic to solve problems, not let them remain unsolved in the hope people can be fobbed off and costs displaced onto customers.

Fascinating info on the importance of handling exchange well, available on the site of Afternic's payment provider, Tipalti:

https://tipalti.com/demystifying-cross-border-payments/

Why Care that Payees Care
Payees want a better payables experience to ensure theyโ€™re paid in a reliable way and that it doesnโ€™t cost them a premium to do so.

In multi-sided or marketplace business models (such as in digital media, adtech, or the gig economy), partners are critical to delivering the content, goods, and services that drive revenue. When unhappy payees leave, that depletes your supply chain, hinders growth, and damages your reputation. In those situations, getting payables right is crucial to a sustainable business.

They offer some downloadable studies there about the high percentage of participants willing to leave a marketplace or network due to payments issues.

Those are not our forms. As I said there is an iframe, you are interfacing with the payment processor. We do not control those forms. [email protected] can however help you with your account and see what you see, and if there are any issues work with all parties to resolve it.

When I go to search domains for sale on Afternic and enter a keyword, the filters on the left don't work for me.

The "Scroll for more search results" button at the bottom doesn't work for me either. Tried it in several browsers, no adblock.

The result is that I basically can't search domains for sale on Afternic. All I get is one page of new GTLD garbage for any keyword and that's it.

I wonder if it's just me.
