Now that .APP is rolling out I thought I'd share a little of our position in .APP domains. I'd love to know what others are doing.

We budgeted just shy of $100k for .APP domain registrations. Several we've already acquired and several we've missed. I'll update our pickups as I can without giving away our position. So far I will share that we picked up:
  • Wedding.app

Trademark Claim
I do have a domain that we registered that has to pass their trademark claim process... it is very generic, not sure who decided to try to call it a trademark, we shall see.

Our Why
To sum it up, Google is our why. I became a domainer back in 2000, when the domain really mattered in SEO. My hunch is that Google won't be able to resist giving some type of preference to quality .APP domain.

Even a small advantage in the SERs or even the Play App Search results, make generic .APP domains valuable.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.
.APP will be the standard. That is why it is different and matters.
Probably just like .mobi was supposed to be the 'standard' extension for mobile websites, .aero for aeronautics or .museum for museums...
If this is your expectation, you should drop out now and cut losses.

PS: .mobi was actually backed by Google.

Little bit pessimistic post.
1. What I can do with app domain?
A. Visit the domain and download app?
B. Visit the domain for web app?
2. Is business or company name ending app brandable?
3. How to convince people it is not play store or iapp etc. but a domain?
4. How can I run a standard website proudly while people thinking it is an app?
5. Is not people usually download app from stores?

As the owner of many domains such as forexapp in king among many others, I know the offers, and values that come in thru inquiries, and most of these people speculating in eap will be burned!

Sorry to say it, but I am just telling you the truth.
I've also owned some exceptional keyword+app.com names and garnered close to no interest over the last couple of years.... Who's branding their company with "APP" at the end?

You do make some valid points Galaxy , the way I look at it ,
is that the .app is really for the people who have currently have apps businesses or games on the App Store or for new developers wishing to push their business .

And the .app domain
example
VirtualReality.spp once clicked will just take you to the App Store were it’s Either a game app News app our selling products online app.

Other example is ,a 1 word like except.app would be useless

So got to be real careful registering one word names they really have to mean a product or service ,a shop or a game .

.app domain is really like a landing page which will promote your online app Business , games , services , online shops , but some people will get caught out , when they register one word domains that mean absolutely nothing As a app

Good apps

Wedding.app
Games .app
Takeout.spp
Car.app
Hotel.app
Fashion.app
Forex.app

Bad apps

Will.app
Nothing.app
Were.app
Said.app
What do these Actually mean as app.

I may be totally wrong but the the way I see it
.app is a kind of landing page that will Direct you to your app business

you could have got them at reg fee, if not, you would not have lost out.

You play your game I'll play mine.

We already have revenue streams in related industries. These are specifically to let us expand.

We don't do the $20 savings thing. We buy at what we value at... not what we might be able to get away with.

I grabbed a few. I passed on teen.app candy.app charity.app and a few real nice domains. Here’s what I got -

CA
Cable
Public
Cartoons
Detroit
Michigan - my home state

I also grabbed the first names of me and family. Eden is my daughters name and I was prompted to agree that there is a TM on file. Same prompt happened with CA...

FYI Guys: I just assisted one end user (not a domainer) forward a good two word .app domain over to their website which is about their app. Not a full utilization of the domain extension, but they at least saw the need/potential to register one and redirect it.

Thanks for sharing your reggs! Don't feed the trolls... or the troll in this case .
Is that a nice way of saying I hate your reg’s?

You can tell the truth, this isn’t a Sesame Street forum, sometimes people need to hear it.

Don’t you have a backbone? Are you scared of the truth? Maybe you don’t speak of experience of owning good keyword app domains, did you say menu app

Maybe we should just appraise our own threads like you, much easier, right mister 5 figures, that way we don’t have the face the truth.

When you are registering domains like carshipping.app on eap, you clearly don’t know what your doing.

What no smug remark, wonder why in the whole app revolution carshippingapp.com was never registered for $8, but .com is dead right? Clearly this person just justified they have no idea what they are doing when they are paying hundreds for terms nobody would register for a simple $8 reg fee, or even $1 fasthosts promo.

Your welcome In advance!

DLT (.app)
Brokerage (.app)

Total cost for both (EAP fee + Reg/Renewal x2) = ~$300 = Not mad about it..

Any news from anyone since registering their .APP names? :xf.cool: It's been 8 months now since go live... .APP isn't far off from being in the top 10 most registered gTLDs. Not sure if that's a good thing or not though in the grand scheme of things.

The real test comes May with renewal time. Personally I still have faith in it, we're seeing some great names developed/in active use (TV, cash, podcast, etc) I think it's going to be one of the most successful new G's long term.

I sold two out of 50 or so that I registered, one for $2K and one for $500, and I'll be renewing 80%+ of my registrations.

I was looking at takeout.app. I just registered socialmedia.app. Crazy it only has a $17 renewal.

Regarding apps...
Absolutely most developers don't spend significant money on their domains for homepages... they are usually handregs.
So don't expect "easy money" in this niche.

Like with all new gTLDs, I wait for possible good (or great) drops. So in a year's time...

would you like to share the names? will help us understand if it was in competition

here were a couple of mine - gigs.app, seat.app, hugs.app, tux.app, rims.app, yen.app, icu.app, arcadegames.app, drivethru.app. Also had some travel related stuff and more stuff that is in the live event space like setlist.app that isn't worth much but I would probably develop someday. I did just grab bankaccount.app & trafficschool.app off uniregistry as google never resolved them and nobody else took them. Those are among the worst names on my list but since I didn't get many of them for $20 it impulse bought them.

Slow down folks these are just domains not actual app. App users probably never bother those domains.
What you mean you don’t get a functioning
App with each purchase, lol?

Must be funny how many of those names have the .com counterpart unregistered...

yes there are plenty of those, i was talking about the renewal fee one word names that have any real commercial meaning
as for those $14 - 20 ones yep one or two i might buy but when it really comes down to it how many of these do you think will be a good investment ?

Well I have socialmedia.app, tix.app, ivf.app, maui.app that are a few that are $20. I had a list of tons more like tux.app, pho.app, deliveries.app, etc that were all $20.

Mommy.app, puppy.app, babies.app were all $50 I believe. Concerts.app, festivals.app, mma.app, baseball.app and more were $100. Tickets.app, events.app, ultrasound.app were $250. This is just off the top of my head but there were tons tons more at these prices if you dug deep. And I was only searching really the industries that I know.
