Hey all figured with the recent .io 6 figure sale and the nice .xyz sale by a follow NP member. We should open a showcase and discussion thread here.

Metaverse is a fast growing keyword, term and niche! Let's share and discuss our name and news.

I've only got One to start with but its a GOOD one my favorite ending keyword on most names.

MetaverseHub.com

Welcome! :)

I think whois.com is going to crash lol... It's really slow right now. I wonder why 😅

I'm on a break for a while now.

But great watching this thread growing.

Indeed, they don't have exclusive rights, but they do have rights for the trademarks that they've owned since 2015... https://tsdr.uspto.gov/#caseNumber=86852664&caseType=SERIAL_NO&searchType=statusSearch

No I'm not saying that nobody else can ever use it alone or with other words, before someone misquotes what I'm saying. But they have the rights to trade in the classes of goods and services for which their trademark is registered in the USA, Canada and probably others.

The list of goods and services is pretty solid for them I must say.
The list of goods and services are mainly from academic/scientific area, probably that's why they are going in that direction: NEWS: Meta (previously known as Facebook) are suing Bantshire’s Mathematical Engineering Teaching Academy (META) for $1million for breaching their trademark.
TM's from 2015 they own, have nothing to do with the metaverse from 2021.

The difference is compared to them, we domain investors (and most other companies) are mere mortals - If i owned Face dot com and Facebook wanted it, even though its generic and not infringing on their trademark, i wouldn't like to battle them in court.

It will be like Real Madrid vs Accrington Stanley.

Whats going to be interesting is if these sales continue. Did Facebook buy some of these domains because they knew domain owners didn't register or buy them in bad faith (no announcement was made), now they have announced it are they going to continue to buy .nets (for example) or try to get them another way (UDRP)?
You have a few valid points.. Very interesting 🤔.

Registered a meta domain yesterday in king and today it’s been registered by fb in 9 other extensions. Lol
MetaMetaverse.net

taken in 9 extensions mostly by The new META
Not this again lol... I feel like a dog with a bone here now, but how do you know they're registered by Fb/Meta?

The whole world is embracing metaverse, not just Facebook
I agree. It will be arrogant of Zuckerberg to think he can corner the market on the metaverse. A metaverse owned by just one company is a really scary thought

Also, think about it, if FB can sue based on Meta+KW, then technically they can sue for use of Metaverse+KW bc evil Mark will just claim that "Verse" is a KW so Meta"Verse" infringes on "Meta" TM lol

They need to fight a UK university in UK, that will not be an easy job, looks like they are not afraid, with facebook suing them.

I hope you are aware that it's a parody account...

So now what? Outbound to Facebook Meta and risk a UDRP just because it pisses them off or hold and wait hoping? This is going to be weird.

Something like gamingmetaverse, even in Net should be worth a lot more given the better grammar.

Why is it payments (plural)? Isn't payment (singular) easier and more valuable?
.
I don't know about value but English-wise plural makes more sense.

So what now? Are we going to be forced to turn over all of our Meta names?
Everyone must be wondering about this. If not domainers then potential buyers for sure.

so with FB now being Meta, is meta+KW better or metaverse+KW
As per above, I'd argue the full word Metaverse should be more valuable now. Even though it's more than double as long.

For anyone wondering, that's a joke Twitter account.

I can't sit here arguing this all day, but the long and short of it is if someone has a TM registered and they used it in commerce they have protection. That protection can be quite far reaching.

If you bought a company called meta and you registered a trademark legitimately for it in 2015 and they had used the name for years, do you think a defence against you trying to protect your mark of "But you only announced Meta on the 28th of Oct 2021" is going to cut the mustard? Sadly not.

Every piece of a trademark is examined, the sentences (the description of goods and services) aren't in there for a laugh and anyone else has the right to oppose a mark or have parts of it revoked for non use if that's the case. But this....

Class 42 - computer networking services, namely, creating on-line virtual communities for registered users to organize groups and events, participate in discussions, and engage individually and in groups in scientific, social, business and community networking; computer services, namely, hosting electronic facilities for others for organizing and conducting meetings, events and interactive discussions via communication networks

...is very much to do with his metaverse concept and he's probably met the bar for protection with the services that meta.org provided long before now.

Again I'm not trying to scare anyone or say no one can use meta/metaverse or that your names are worthless or anything, it's just a discussion and I'm not a lawyer.

It is unlikely that this company will resell it. Most likely they will try to use it. So at least I won't be upset about the flip. For some names, I asked for a million, for example, store.ai metaverse.property . But here I don't have the nerve to demand so much. In addition, my beloved cat died, and I became indifferent to money. Nothing will revive my cat.

METAVERSE.AI is such a powerful name! You should definitely demand more.

And I think you should consider getting professional support about the cat thing.
