I am shocked that u all are shocked!

I'm not shocked at all...I expected it, and would never place strong monetary value on domain TLDs only a couple of years old. I'll be shocked if there isn't a shift bringing more new TLDs into the VC mix over the next 5 years.

If you catch fire, don't hold it...drop it as soon as you can.

If you catch fire, quit your job and retire. Start buying domains, make NP friends and drive a benz. Listen to your mom and always buy dot com

The problem is that the registries can jack up the price dramatically and price you out of your domains by requalifying them as 'premium'. And you cannot renew for more than 10 years in advance.
They are not regulated like .com or ccTLDs.
We have already seen examples. One example: http://www.thedomains.com/2015/09/2...-in-the-new-gtld-space-goes-to-mind-machines/

But the registries/registrars usually don't say they are jacking up the price, instead they say the names were improperly allocated due to some bug or clerical oversight. But it's the same thing for the unfortunate domain holder. You pay for their mistakes.

With respect to the above I am of the impression that the registrar in question charged the registrant incorrectly in year 1 and decided to swallow it themselves. The registry didn't jack the price up.

Can the new gtlds be brought back from the dead? Is there some sort of incantation?

I really likes them and would like them to come back alive again.

Thanks,

So does anyone know when these names are set to drop? I've found a bunch that are in pending delete but also on server hold and never dropped, even though they should have by now.

well thankfully other domainers had the same sense your talking when the .io came out, leaving valuable domains to other speculators. The first registration of a dot io was in 1998. Finally after a little time, a thought shift in the marketplace, the past two years have seen the dot io TLD realize some pretty decent sale values for domainers, a rise in the number of developed sites and an increase in the adoption of this TLD amongst concepts seeking external funding.

Its inevitable with the saturation of dot com registrations, other domains will rise to the top as well. For the domainer buying and selling for a quick flip, to earn his living, stay with the dot com, net or whatever works for you. For the speculators who don't mind waiting a while, they'll gladly grab new TLDs that make sense and see where the chips fall.

As some have so cleverly pointed out, history has a way of repeating itself. Bitch, gripe, claim the all knowledge you want...but this is clearly something that only time will tell. Speculating on any investment carries risks, and it can provide potential returns or potential losses. There's no sure thing, so we try and do as best we can at informing ourselves on all elements involved to minimize the risk.

All we can do is sit back and see what will happen.

Maybe Frank has changed his mind. He has realized the error of his ways, and does not want to be remembered as the sole person who crushed the gTLD movement.

Frank is amazing domainer. He is in business of selling new gtlds, not buying them. He is getting on right track with dropping all those crapazoids so people can pick them up

So you're saying people should give .mobi another chance? Or if I post a bunch of random quotes about being a sucker or lemming, that'll make my case?

If you're interested in what Frank is doing, hop on Namejet and buy .coms.

A registrar+domainer combo is a scary thing. It's a common direction I'm seeing lately, with other new gTLD's too.

In case you guys did not notice. New GTLD guys gave up. When it first started I seen some ads here and there, but now they quit!

None of them even came to give us any reasons to buy their crap. I seen ZERO arguments to buy new gtlds and we made 100 arguments why its total crap.

They give domainers the crap new gtlds and keeping the premiums! It has never happened before with com. net, info or anything. It seems like a complete scam to begin with. Then they create premium pricing. Then they take domains back ( after domainers spent countless hours finding gems) and made them premium ( another scam) The whole thing is highly unethical and should be stopped.

Easier said than done. The chaos will likely run its course over a period of time. It's blatantly obvious most of these were created and pushed out, knowing that they will eventually collapse.

The powers that be are, in essence, printing money as the governments do, creating inflation. When one thing doesn't work, they invent something new to temporarily cover costs and sweep up their profit loss. They rob Peter to pay Paul.

All they need is a few influencers with enough followers to push the idea and sucker enough people to invest in their agenda, then they ball ship and move on to the next ride...

I guess you didn't get the memo that most of us have acknowledged it's the registries getting sales, not you or most new gtld investors. You purposely left out this part - .Global Registry, when you posted about those sales. - http://www.dnjournal.com/domainsales.htm
