I think the net sold recent at auction for over $1,000 and is reg to Frank Schilling (I think) or his business name. This org name was dropped after 6 years according domain tools. Since I run woodpelletfuel.org with great serp's this can make a good addition. I find it boring though.

This is my short journey. Newbie to now = 1 year. I have 160 domains in total and 95% are hand registered. They have cost an average of €17 and they have an average Godaddy appraisal value of €543.

I would say the most important things are to read and to learn.

At the moment it is roughly 50%-50% .com and other extensions.

I have such a different mix of domain names it is hard to explain.

I have spent $2,800 and the Godaddy appraised value is $90,000. This figure should be used a a guide only, but one thing that did surprise me was that only 2 of my top 10 appraised domain names are .com which means that 8 are other extensions.

My top 10 is valued at $23,000 on their own so I would say there is definitely still some value in hand registering non .coms.

This can only be verified by me selling some of my domain names.

Estibot shows sales dates from multiple sources
GoDaddy doesn't show sales dates (and the data is only GoDaddy)
Also, you may find a high value keyword, f.e. "business" and a low value extension, f.e. ".xyz" and when you put them together......

GoDaddy values business.xyz at $7,853​

I am a GoDaddy customer and a lot of what they do is great
But the appraisals are rigged to get novices to register low-value domains, imo
I trust Estibot far more because they include relevant dates and other info such as search volume and PPC

But, as you said, all of this is only verified through sales....
