question Challenges of a domain's value?

Excuse me for being a noob. Also, I have some domains for years that I had plans to use, but realize I don't have the time or funds to develop. It was recommended for me to ask on this site. I did try a few bots to evaluate the value and the results don't make sense to me. One said $400 or so. GoDaddy said about $1300. But I see domains on GoDaddy and NameCheap with names kind of like mine go for $30k ~ $250k. I've seen wonky names asking for $500,000 ~ $50 million, which is unrealistic. of course.

I think mine is a good 3-word.com name, easy to spell with 11 letters. Even years ago, I think it got 2000+ monthly visits with a dud site. Today, its about 100 visits a week with no SEO or anything, just sitting there. (Just bots?)

If it's worth about $5k, then I'd be fine with that. But I'd be upset to sell at $5000 if it was worth $30,000 or more, especially 6 figures - which I would find unrealistic. Of course, the right buyer at the right time.

Or are there brokers who are looking for certain domains for clients?

Hard to say much without knowing the name. But there are very few 3 word domains that are worth a lot.

Agreed on the 3-name issue. Some work. A friend wanted one for his biz a few months ago with 3 names, and I told him it was hard to work with.

That’s not bad as far as 3 words go.

I think that 2-5k ballpark is where most people would price a name like this. Buydomains sell plenty of names like this around 1500-2k and they tend to be on the cheaper side.

Most names that sell above 10k with “and” in the middle are well known sayings.

But it’s one of those names I wouldn’t be surprised to see sell for 500 or 15000 depending on who sold it.

Quite often with three word domains you can Scalp them down to two words, though while not grammatically correct, they make for a better domain. This is not always the case but it's worth exploring

Of course you'll probably find the shorter version already taken. If so, I tend to revisit my motives for even considering the longer example.

I've seen datelove, which is one I compared against mine, its $30k. But it's a matter of rolling off the tongue as well (I think) - as "Datelove" doesn't sound good. A partner and I developed a dating site with some important features a few years before Match. Due to not thinking long-term and having kids, we never launched it, even though it was 95%+ functional. But I kept the domain. Thought about making it into a site for help/articles on date and love (hence the name).

I'll list it on Sedo and Dynadot.

Thanks for your input. GoDaddy says $1600, Dynadot says $14,000. But humans know better than bots.

I'll see about listing it on Dynadot and Sedo. Might as well find someone who can use it more than myself.

For fun, I did stick it on my Register's marketplace for $700,000. With ZERO expectations... Would have been funny if there was a bite thou.

I did notice there are only a few domain names (for sale) that have the words "love" and "Date" together with .com.

On, another NOOB question I forgot to include in my post:

Pricing of Premium domain names on the GoDaddy and NameCheap market is crazy odd to me.
Let's say a domain is listed at $30,000. But it may renew at $100 a year or $30,000 per year??? The super yearly pricing is what I see on GoDaddy. Or $15K first year, $30K every year afterwards. Now I noticed there are not .com domains.

People actually buy these?

lovedate.com would be my pick. As you can guess, it's long gone and was registered in 1998. Three-letter domains need to be common phrases.

Is it worth paying the $60 fee on SEDO to put a domain up for auction?

I need the cash; at one point, DynaDot's bot evaluation said it was worth $14K So maybe try to auction it for $8000 or so? Tricky is right customer at right time too. As a parked domain, it is getting about 150 hits a month.
There was a time a couple of years back when it was getting 500+ hits a month with a "coming soon" page.

Your chances of selling a name at sedo auction for more than a fraction of any appraised value is almost zero.

Just look at how many names sell for more than 8k at sedo and do the math.

Unless it is objectively a really good names you’re better off waiting for the right end user to come along.

Domain values can fluctuate a lot, so it might be best to consult a broker who can give you a clearer idea and find potential buyers.
