This has been puzzling me for a long time. Most names in TOP section are worthless or below $100 worth.
Am I missing something? Lets discuss some of these names in details. I see better names in Bargain section for $5 dollars. Please share your opinions.

Zerbick.com was one of the stars there recently. Thats obviously not worth a registration fee even with coupon for $1dollar.

PlasmaMonitor.com? That is not a top level domain.

Everyone has their own opinion on value. Even the most renowned domain experts disagree on what's valuable sometimes.

If you chose every domain in the TOP domain section, then you'd be happy and countless other members would call the domains worthless.

Just because the value may not be obvious or what you're used to, doesn't mean it is worthless.

5y7.com is always $300-400 range. This is known value. $400 qualifies for top section?

When I think top level it would be best of the best...or best version of the domain I.E. TVDinner.com Eradicate.com Enact.com etc. PlasmaTV.com or Plasma.TV.

I'm not seeing that domain in the Top Domain Forum at all. It's possible that the time you saw that domain, it was in the process of being moved. When a domain is not selected for the Top Domain forum, it must first be approved before it can be moved (60 seconds or so may pass by in between where it's visible temporarily). Rather than simply deleting the hundreds of submissions we get each day, we try to be courteous and move the ones not selected to another appropriate forum so they can still be sold.

Members watching the Top Domains forum may receive notifications (emails/alerts) about those unaccepted domains before they're moved, so we've changed the process we use to prevent that from happening; from now on, you'll only receive notifications of the accepted domains.

Out of the hundreds per day we get, only a very small handful (1 to 5) are actually selected each month.

Thanks for understanding,

I would pay $5 for tvdinners.com. I wouldn't pay $1000 though. It's kind of a dated term, but still has some value. My father used to call them TV dinners.

I think most of them qualify, but there are a lot that leave me wondering. For example, one recent 4 letter .com whose value seems to be from parking revenue. 95% of which comes from Vietnam.

I had one domain turned down. It's a 2 character .org. The .com sold for upper 6 figures last year. It was actually a Top Domains listing in 2014 (I bought it from the seller).

Eric: There are a lot more than 5 per month approved. I count 13 within the past week.

Not all months are created equal and the domains submitted each day / month change. Sometimes for the better and other times for the worse. ;)

If you think this is a $5 domain I dont know what to say lol

You would only go $20 on Eradication dot com lol

Dude stop worrying about the justifiable domains in the top section

If a domain is not chosen, that does not mean it is not a Top domain or that it's not worth above $1,000.

It means that it was not chosen. Important distinction. ;)

Domains in Top Domains are chosen by editors such as myself and others. We choose domains from the submissions and we ensure the quantity remains selective:
  • If there are a lot of good submissions, then some of those good domains will not be chosen.
  • If there are only mediocre submissions, then some of those may be chosen as well to at least have something new in the section.
It varies based on the quantity and quality of submissions.
