This is my second post about the Appraisal section, and it comes after reading some outrageous appraisals for names, as well as some comments by newbies 'appraising' names when they essentially don't know one thing what they're talking of.

I know that NP is an open community, but more than half the time, the appraisals in the appraisal section are done by newbies. Values fly all over the place, while some comments just make you go "whoa"

Just check the appraisal thread for Articles (dot) org and the LLL.net - wup (dot) net in the appraisal section today. Comments like that really put a question mark on the credibility of NP as a professional forum. Valuations by people who've just entered domaining and don't know a thing not only hurt the owner by giving him a false idea of his domain, but also the guy doing the appraisals, since he believes his valuation to be right (because nobody corrects him) and might go and spend that much money on a similar name.

Something needs to be done about this, really, if NP is to maintain its reputation as a serious, professional forum. There have been some outrageous threads lately (the free LL.com, anyone?) by members who've been been here for quite a long time. Maybe we need more mods? Or maybe we need to make a rule that all people appraising domains need to complete their appraisal q&a.

The views expressed on this page by users and staff are their own, not those of NamePros.

It's funny, because I stopped by the appraisal section for the first time in three years yesterday and was blown away by the exact things you've mentioned. Needless to say, there's about a 2% chance I'll ever post my names there for appraisal if things continue the way they are. It's ridiculous. Many people post rubbish and/or an exact rehash of what's already been said just to up their post count and supposed reputability. :td:

i can understand what you're meaning. But you also have to understand that some people think different about domainnames.
For example i can like xxxxxx.com and you don't like it. But it's true that the are some people who mention values that are not correct.

Maybe Namepros can start thinking to start a professional appraise team. I can takes lots of time but for example for a profesional evaluation of the domain namepros can ask some small NP. You can use that to build out the forum.

It's just an idea.

I know that domain values are not something you can accurately pinpoint. But fact remains that noone can really appraise for end user sales. The best we can do is come up with some conclusion as to the resale value of a name (which shouldn't be that hard to come up with; it would merely be what you would pay for it).

I like the idea of a professional appraisal team though. It would save a lot of trouble..

Sashas,
I went to the thread that you mentioned about the lll.net and you are right that the response of reg fee to $xx is worthless when that is a $x,xxx name. I do have to say that all of the other numbers that members gave are what I would consider reasonable. While appraisals are nice the domain market by nature has a difference of opinions on what each domain is worth. To me the appraisal section is nice to get a feeling what people value the names at.

A professional appaisal team would be cool thing to have at Namepros.

Could we have a special colour for posts from members who have completed the Appraiser q&a so they are recognised immediately?

I believe the poster's Appraiser Profile is listed along with their appraisal(s) ... at the bottom of their appraisal posts as, "View Appraisal Methods and Profile for member", IMHO. :gl:

^ Those appraisals can then be weighed with other appraisals / posters that may not have posted their public credentials etc. in an Appraiser Profile. Two things come to mind, speaking from experience and spending even a little time in that area today ... there are some key VERY PROFESSIONAL, experienced, and well thought out appraisals and appraisers in the #1 Namepros Appraisal Forum™ (many of whom have, in fact, filled out the aforementioned Appraiser Profiles - including in both the referenced "Articles" and "LLL" threads, IMHO. :music:

Secondly, it seems right now that there are a LOT of newer members posting their domain names for appraisal in there ... and they are often not providing requisite information that should be considered when formulating an appraisal, in my view. For instance, in the "Articles" thread, current and historical traffic could really have a bearing on its potential value (both in the "Quick Sale" Wholesale arena and to potential End users, as well), in my view. On a side note, Wholesale "Quick Sale" is the default appraisal range in the Appraisal Forum™ ... appraisals for potential End users should be requested while also providing those targeted End users and logic for their potential usage. As mentioned, it's far more difficult to appraise for End users ... but with some direction from the O.P., a "reasonable range" can usually be derived, IMHO.

Lastly, appraisals are FREE ... and Namepros.com has addressed this issue many times over the years (adding the Appraiser Profiles was in direct response to suggestions and feedback here in this very section some time ago, as is anti-spamming measures for NP$'s (of course!), and ability for new and newer members to receive NP$'s for appraising / posting in the "earning" forums). We should sincerely thank each and everyone that takes the time and effort appraise our domain names! :xf.love:

Continued "tweaks" and suggestions to best keep the Namepros Appraisals Forum© active and informative are greatly appreciated, I'm sure! :music:
Just my two sense.

This is true Jeff, But maybe it's possoible to make a different place for payed appraisals. It doensn't have to be that much. For example 30 np for a profesional appraise.
I think it will be good for the forum there are extra revenues that can be used and it's a great addition for the community. I think it could even attract new members.

Just thinking :talk:

I want to go by the above idea and call loudly for possible a "Domain Appraisers Team" in line with "Web Reviews Team".. Why not?

A master staff interviews with participants to select qualifying appraisers who get their status in Np$ and members can recognize them.

At the same time, denying all other members from giving their thoughts would be viewed as "unfair" by some people.
