What TLDs to Lock Up After .com

If I own the .com for a particularly nice 2-word generic domain name, how important is it to lock up the other available TLDs, e.g.: .net, .org, .info, .mobi, .biz and .us? All of them, or only certain ones?

What about the respective plurals of all those domains, e.g.: oranges.com, etc. Would that be important?

If I were to reg those other TLDs, what should I do with them? Forward them to the .com? Should I promote them all separately the the SEs and directories?

Looking for your collective wisdom and advice.

There really isn't anything that nice out there for reg fee that you would need to lock up alternative extensions if you just are holding and parking. If you build a large site with lots of users you would want the plural, and perhaps other extensions, depending on how large the site, although that would primarily be to keep other people from getting them. You either could develop the other sites with different content or use a 301 redirect to the main site. If you sell something on the main site perhaps the alternate websites would have some related information with one way links to the selling pages on the main site.

It is difficult to come up with related content for a lot of sites, but don't make them mere duplicates - Google doesn't like that.

You should consider .mobi if what you do will have interest in a mobile format. That is a different issue than the other extensions, and depends on the site.
