Virtual Reality Domains (VR)

Spaceship Spaceship
Watch
Im betting big bucks on VR domains have a great future and with the big boys buying up VR companies, mainstream is a stones throw away.....

Lots of VR+keyword.com taken years ago and I noticed this sale a week or so back -

VRTechnology.com $3688

This was a steel and I can soon see everything from VRPoker / VRCasinos / VRShopping / VRBrowsing / VRTours / VRWorlds / etc etc....having a high price tag even now at the start of VR hitting mainstream...

I have just paid $x,xxx for a name but will not be showcasing as the domain is in escrow at present....

Feel free to showcase your VR domains If you like...

Cheers

BTW, I wonder what your thoughts are on 'avr'? I've seen it trumpted here as being the catch all acronym for 'augmented + virtual reality', but I don't see anyone outside this forum using it. And why not 'var'? Or will vr just be used to cover all virtual/augmented realities with ar (or perhaps mr) being used when augment reality needs to be differentiated?
As I was trying to covey, this is so broad and strong, that in 3-4 years, the breath of demand will be more inclusive. It is hard to say what keyword will be used to describe what is out there by then. I have one name with avr. 3davr is what I bought 2 years ago based on what the folks at Technical Illusions was doing with 'CastAR'. I really don't expect high valuation for it at any time. It is more likely to have a valuation as a acronym for something else.
You can only sprinkle your keywords around. Don't put all your eggs in one basket. However, I don't see high valuations in general for AVR on todays info.

Remember the "selfie stick"? Well it was called something before that and I bet nobody now remembers what that was. Things will change like the weather and Nobody cares what the weather was last week.

The follow-up we all need to do will occur after this is all launched and we see what keyword search terms are used in 2016/2017. Till then, we will need to rely on the beaten path that says that how folks speak the terms is how they search for them. And right now 'MOST' use VR to describe all formats ar.vr,mr,holo etc. Not that each term will not be used on it's own, but put some hedge to your bets. As domaineers' we can not make up terms, we follow what is being used/what is expected to be used. When the omnispheric/360 cameras hit the market for consumers, keywords used are likely to change yet again.

Here is a good read on the BBC.
StarWars.co.uk fighting against Disney for the name that Lucas Films dropped over a decade ago.
I have always thought if you drop a domain that is your mark, you have unprotected it yourself. Especially more than 10 years after the fact. I believe they have a good argument but we will have to see how this gets decided.
EU rules are a bit different. But it could set a president for future WIPO cases because the circumstances are unique.

I think we may see a bunch like this soon from VR name drops from the last decade from company's that still exist, on the books anyway. Making a land grab for what they technically have/had rights to.

Indeed, and I've made this point often. I've even read a domainer claiming that holographic names are still worthless because the HoloLens is not real holographics, LOL!

I may not be the best person to answer your question on "avr" if someone wants to do more qualified would be great.

I have no certainty that this combo will work, if work would be the happiest person I have just made a small investment with important key words, if it finally works, I hope you I report a profit Reasonable budget.

It is, in my humble opinion, too early to know whether it can be accepted. If there are some companies that use it, but there are few, as "avrmed dot com".

The term if used on the Internet and is the first reasonable indication that it could be adopted by other companies in the future.

If a company has engaged in conduct advertising augmented reality and virtual reality, I do not believe that nonsense "avrads" is called.

As I said before if anyone else wants to say qualified would be fantastic, you agree or not with me of course.

Saludos,
Mario.

I would not add 360 and VR or AR on the same name?? It just doesnt work...if you are adamant you want a name, get 360Keyword.com or VRKeyword.com....not both

I agree, I have IVR360 dot com just do not know if I will be renewing.

Personally I don't think '360' is going anywhere.

Agreed, I don't think 360 is going anywhere, although its way better than AVR which is something made up in this forum it seems.

Why don't you think 360 is going anywhere?

Youtube already has a "360" category for example.

Yes, Youtube's been cooking up some projects of their own too, accepting applications for ux, also hired ex-MTV exec for original content. Seems it's been a race in digital communications.

360 has it's uses, such as sports training, military training and in some way movies, but maybe not as much as we would think, only time will tell. 360 though as a brand term in a name is good, as it portrays "complete" coverage to the service or niche.

Reported Doug B's post and sent him a PM. He has quoted me saying something, I simply didn't say. I'm assuming it's a typo.

UPDATE: He's edited his posted. @Doug B - thanks!

I just don't think its going to be a popular way for the masses to refer to virtual or mixed reality. Just my opinion so who knows...

360 is a sub-category of VR (and a very important one too) IMO. Same way as games etc.

Yes 360 is a strong keyword and will continue to grow. Imo. That's were your going to find the marketing dollars the most.

I strongly agree, the term '360' as sub-category to 'VR' will be valuable. Speaking in terms of categories I'm sure '360' might spark some sub-categories of its own ... but I wouldn't even dare speculating on that. Waaay too soon to tell.

Imagine flying a drone with a headset where the dronecamera follows your heads movement, and the video quality is good enough to enjoy, but also to stream it (no delay). So obviously not 4k, but HD or something. It would be literally like flying. Now that's going to come sooner or later (maybe it's even exists), and we can't call that VR. That's 360. Of course I have to admit I'm a bit biased since I have some domains like that, but still, I see a lot of potential in 360.

And I say that I agree, I do not say that 360 has no future, neither he nor I said, what I say is that I think is best 360 + keyword + 360 and vr + keyword + vr key 360vr + keyword + vr360 although I have no doubt that there will be some winning combinations.

Anyway I think they are opinions and that only the market will decide.

P.S., I have some domains 360,

360gratis.com, 360tvcam.com, casas360.es, videos360.es, i360.es....

FYI, I have been doing the head tracking cam on my UAV's (drones) for several years now with a dk1 but what I want is a omnispheric cam instead of turning the cam with servos. Since I need a computer do de-skew the image for the rift, I probably should just use a conical mirror with a gopro.
But it is like flying the craft from being on it. Much less confusing when flying out 100yds to 3/4mile when you have no idea how the craft is oriented. But I was using vuzix 3d glasses for a few years before that. While they worked well, the image size was a problem for details of what I was looking at for inspections. A DK1 works much better even with the screen door effect.

360 is already a embedded term online so you need to get use to it.

I can see it's combined use in some cases with VR but with AR, it makes little sense. Something could happen to change that, we shall see.

The google/gopro cam is not a omnispheric camera. It is a panospheric cam.
But it is a 360 cam either way. 360 video is not always 3D. 360 has come to represent video that is 2D/3D panospheric or panoramic at a minimum.

I would not split hairs on this. Spend your time watching the terms use by J.Q.Public. Those count. They will tell you what you should be holding. It is to early to tell what will be dominate in the beginning.
Make your best edu-guess's.
I faced the same dilemma a few years ago with 3D & VR.
So I played some both ways. It's called hedging your bet.

I can't post a link or even spell it out or my post will be deleted, but it definately has a future as regards sinful entertainment. If you look at the thread devoted to sinful vr names, I posted a link concerning a sinful entertainment company and their perverted plans to launch 360 videos for mobile phones.

I have a HUGE uptick in traffic for parked domains (about 70 of them) containing the 3D keyword this past 10 days.
Yes only a part of it is referral spam.
The increase seems to be mostly from the US and Germany.
AR3D is on top of the list.
I can't find rhyme or reason for it. I am guessing it is just a sedo referral thing where someone is buying adds around the keyword and they are sorting traffic for it.

Anyone have a clue or notice the same?

I haven't seen anything here although all mine are vr and a handful of 360's. I think spacevr is a cool startup. They eventually want to put an orbiting satellite with live feeds for vr viewing. How cool would that be?

Being a Ham Radio Guy for a long time, I was lucky enough to capture video from the mir space station in the 90's via slow scan tv. Even talked to a couple of the cosmonauts for just a few minutes each as they passed overhead. They have ham gear up there then and now.
I would like to see more space cams (3) and a couple on the moon as well.
The Russians still operate a SSTV camera for us hams on the ISS on occasion but not with cam shots out the window anymore.
For the rest, for now, you will need to be satisfied with a live stream feed from outside the ISS.

Having a 360 cam up there for VR would be fabulous during a space walk!
There are so many interesting things VR is going to make possible, it is hard to fathom.

I agree. it's amazing what the possibilities hold in store! I personally would like to see a fixed 360 camera around a reef. I think that would be neat and relaxing.

I cant wait until the 360 cameras come down in price and become more mainstream. There needs to be a cheaper version so it catches traction quicker.

I'm waiting for 360 webcams to catch on. I'm sure it won't be long. We just need one, then the chinese will mass copy the shit out of it.

Only time will bring the price down. We need a cardboard attitude for a 360 camera. One day im sure it will be built into our phones.
