I figure a lot of the people here -- like myself -- are not very interested in the non .mobi sales at TRAFFIC West; so the main discussion thread might not be the optimal place for us to talk about the proceedings.

Lets use this thread instead.

For reference: Main Discussion Thread.

.US domains.US domains
That's my point exactly. I don't see casinos.mw (wats .mw ) selling for $52,000!

This gTLD has been out for about 6 months, is really barely launched, and yet it has garnered some of the top spots at these, most visible, auctions.

What we may have here is another betamax (code fix of standard ccTLD) vs. vhs (intelligent design of .mobi) and I think .mobi is the winner in this power grab.

Bizarre that casinos.mobi sold for so high.. I just dont get the plural thing.. Ah well maybe its just me

Pizza.mobi was way to cheap imho. Id put that name in the top 5 names for the extension and probably would have paid that price myself..

Dont see the furore surrounding europe.mobi. The owner set the reserve and the reserve was met. End of. And, i actually think its a fair price. Whos gonna want to "europe" on their pda's/mobiles anyhow..? I hate continent domains.

Perhaps the NP'er that listed Europe.mobi was not aware that it sold so cheap. Perhaps he's not bound to an agreement considering it never really went to "auction". I can see him selling that name easily for mid-5 figures. If he wanted to sell it for less than $3K, then surely he knew that NP'ers here would have bid much higher on NPs own marketplace. I'd love to hear his side of things.

i agree. i have bid more for it, personally before.
has masses of appeal. you could sell up & develop this one name.
in Europe you have the most diverse range of languages countries & prime real estate on the planet.
europe.mobi is awesome

one real heartening thing for mobi is realestate.mobi sold for more than mozambique.com

a mobi selling for more than a country com ?(the rarest of breeds). well, well :o

A good auction in general

cam went far too cheap also

Overall i think it was a good auction for .mobi, don't forget a hell of a lot of end users won't have a clue about .mobi or what traffic auctions are yet! Let alone just handing $2000 over for a ticket to participate! In an auction room you have good days and bad. This time i feel it wasn't full of bidders willing to pay out top dollar! But nevertheless some good prices were fought out! Don't forget there have been some big sales via the silent auctions in the past, so we still have them results to come!

I still don't believe we can draw any conclusions from the results.

It was the expected result in my eyes, with the current hype going along with .mobi, it is likely to have filtered through to potential buyers and thus, quality .mobi domains at the moment are likely to fetch a nice amount in high profile auctions like TRAFFIC. However, I'm looking for next year to start assessing the impact of .mobi on the domain market, when those names start dropping and hopefully, people can start looking logically and realistically at the extension (which at the moment isn't happening, each new "event" where a decent .mobi sale occurs seems to act as a catalyst for additional hype)

Having said that, as a .mobi owner, I'm relatively happy with the results and I think that they all went for very reasonable prices. I don't think any .mobi with the exception of a few premium names, at the current time are worth $xxx, xxx and non of the listed names fit into that category for me.

think (owner of europe.mobi) was on DNF chat last night while the auction was happening, he was at the traffic conference giving us live prices on auctions etc (and during commercial break)... im sure he knows what it "sold" for, he was likely standing right there as it happend... he left the chatroom very quickly after the auctioneer announced the hallway-bidding and just said, "gotta go, things are not good"

Comparing the .mobis in this auction with the other TLDs there is not accurate - remember that most of the .mobis come from the registry stash, and the other names are from the resale market - of course the .mobi names would be higher quality, overall.

Another point - if Pizza.mobi becomes a parking page it is a setback for the entire extension, and one of the first blunders made by the registry that I have noticed.

I'm glad he knows what happened.
