The NamePros MOBI forum was among the first dedicated MOBI TLD discussion areas on the Internet. There is a good community of MOBI-interested domainers here on NamePros, and many of them are very passionate about this TLD for one reason or another. Unfortunately, passion leads to sparks, and misguided sparks lead to fires and flames.

One frequent participant in this board has been Jeff, a former NamePros staff member who has expressed skepticism about the MOBI market and frequently comments on the need for development for this namespace to be a success.

I have discussed things with Jeff personally and expressed that his message, however valid, is getting diluted by the repetitiveness and distracting comments that regularly come from people that disagree with him. We both agreed that it's time for a change in focus, both for him and the NamePros MOBI board. His account will be blocked from further participation in the MOBI forum.

On the flipside, the special no-MOBI usergroup that I created for Jeff will be applied to other members as well as needed. We want this to be a place for healthy and constructive discussion. If you only participate in the MOBI forum as an effort to further an agenda - whether to degrade our forum here to promote another, to advertise your services, hype up or blast MOBI for your own personal gain - please - take it elsewhere.

Besides Jeff, three other members have already had the NoMOBI usergroup applied to their accounts. The filter only applies to the MOBI discussion forum. The MOBI marketplace and the whole rest of NamePros will not be affected.

I'm disappointed that measures need to be taken to stop this kind of in-fighting. Hopefully it will lead to positive growth and a return to the NamePros-community spirit that we are more accustomed to.

Thanks,

RJ

Scandiman

I agree,

Scandiman deserves to be here. He has been nothing but supportive of .Mobi in this forum. Even though many of us are members of the "other" forum, nearly everyone still comes here as well to share information and resources. If Scandiman made mention of that forum and it has broken policy then he should have been warned. Banning him at the same time as Jeff, who's had too many warnings from everyone, is not justifiably in the same category. I, like many others who used to post regularly here, now welcome the opportunity to return now that Jeff is gone. His reputation precedes him in this place. I called him out on his behavior early this year and I am surprised he was left this long to dismantle the participation in this forum.

If valid users such as Scandiman are banned from this forum I don't see how that is constructive to making this forum better moving forward. All that has been accomplished by this measure is the weakening of its usefulness.

You can't go wrong with the Viking :)

Do I smell the stench of politics?

I can picture the meeting of the minds:
OK guys....we're getting complaints daily...strike that...hourly about Jeff. But he's one of us. We can't get rid of him....unless.....hmmm. An eye for an eye might work. We'll give 'em Jeff's head for Scandiman's! We can justify our actions through this loophole in our rules. No need to warn Scandi. Just a clean cut and our problems are over.

It's obviously your forum and you will do what you want. I've been here less than a year, so my voice carries little. But from the time I've been here, the mobi subforum has been a combination of a wealth of knowledge being shared, an inspiration to many (including myself), a place for "breaking mobi news and sightings", an adolescent playground, and a mobi bashing area.

Overall, it as been a tremendous place to "learn" and keep up with the dot mobi extension. A clear-cut leader of this section has been Scandiman. If there were such a thing, he would be considered the dot mobi movement "poster child". Looking for professionalism? Look no farther than the Scandi fellow. Loosing Scandi and his well thought out suggestions / comments will certainly not help this sub-forum nor the domaining community. It will only drive the ones who truly wish to be educated elsewhere. My visits slowed down to a crawl when I couldn't go through a thread without seeing a
typical cut-and-paste response from Jeff. It is nice to see management finally recognize and act on this behavior.

Personally, if I new how, I would start a petition to re-instated Scandi. If this is a permanent ban with no reinstatement, the Namepros dot mobi section should fly their mobi flag at half mast, as the community has suffered a tremendous loss.

You guys NEED to realize YOU can't see all posts in this section .... Many are deleted - So don't assume someone hasn't broken rules just because you Don't see it - Okay ?
I've seen several people in this section breaking the "Promoting other forums" rule even though they were warned not to ... Yet they kept on.
I'm glad -RJ- added the "NoMobi" option honestly , Because the only alternative we have had in the past is to remove them from the entire forum ... As many of you know - I've done this myself in the past and In all honesty , I think removing them from this section for a while would have sufficed. Saying this section has been "Heated" at times is really a understatement.

-RJ- is one of the Fairest people I know ... and I support any decisions he's made.

I am not going to go into a million reasons (but there are at least that many) why I agree with removing Jeff and disagree with removing Scandi.

This is a step forward and 2 steps back IMO.

We all know where scandi is, we all know what was going on here at NP, we all still lurked and visited even tho we had to sit on our hands most of the time.

Scandi is 100% positive for this forum and I am absolutely sure he will cooperate with you in anything you request of him. The #1 aggrivation is gone. we all had a hard time keeping the maturity level above 10th grade at times. The antagonism was relentless and unbarable for the most part.

I have nothing but respect for Scandi.. and I do not know the others who were banned, but I may have similar feelings for those posters. Without a doubt, in 100% confidence, I can say that not allowing Sacndi here is like closing the door to a wealth of info that new .mobi investors will undoubtedly need.

Thats my peace.

Mej

I would also like to add...

I have nothing but respect for RJ and his determination to help get the forum back on track. I am sorry the mods had to tolerate the behavior and see grown adults behave like children. I understand that it must have been difficult for them as mobi investors to try and remain neutral while this behavior persisted. Hats off to all of you for patience. I still stand by my statement above, but could not leave this post without recognizong the efforts of those involved. Thank You!

To Reese's credit, he PM'd me about Scandiman right away. I've been traveling and had not had a chance to check things until now. Upon getting home and having a thorough review of Scandiman's posts, I believe it was a mistake on my part that he ended up in the NoMOBI group. I have corrected it. (Sorry, Scandi)

The other points in my OP still stand. The MOBI area has had more than its fair share of problems, and you cannot use Jeff as a scapegoat for everything. We allow and encourage users to discuss alternative viewpoints. We draw the line when users start personally attacking others for having different opinions.

Jeff has not been banned for breaking NamePros rules. His absence is voluntary. The new NoMOBI group was created for him so he won't be as tempted to jump into discussions so often.

Scandi, sorry. Others with posts in this thread -- I'll read and respond later.

RJ

You did the right thing here. Thanks for recognizing your mistake and fixing it promptly. Many people will benefit in the future because of the new rules in place at namepros!

RJ you have great management skills. I'm not saying that to kiss your ass, as i have no reason to.
Just to say, i like the way you do things.
Take's a big man to correct a mistake publicly, especially when you dont have to.
cheers

Personally, I don't believe in banning anyone from the .mobi forum unless it's a case of spamming or consistent personal attacking, but I respect your decision RJ and I sort of understand the reasoning behind it.

i would say what we had here was a perfect blend of the two, but nice move RJ on allowing scandi back in, he's been nothing but informative and helpful to anyone who has questions.

RJ, we all make mistakes, I get that. But what I still don't understand is why I was banned in the first place? It is hard to imagine you banning me or anyone else without first examining the facts so if my posts were not the reason then why?

I hope you understand my perception of grave inequity in this situation. I know you and Jeff go way back, I respect that, but while he was consulted and volunteered to be placed in the NoMobi group, the other 3 including myself were neither consulted or notified of their banishment. Well, at least I know this for 2 of the 3, DentalPro and myself, the third person banned is still a mystery and I hope you come forward with their username. I discovered my banishment when I tried to respond to another members question on selling advertising on their site. Instead of the editor window I was greeted with this message, "You cannot post in the MOBI forum." Hours passed before this thread appeared explaining the situation and I assumed I was one of the "three other members" you alluded to. I hope you choose to at least communicate directly with the other two and explain specifically why they are banned. Without communication the banishment simply feels arbitrary.

I'm deeply moved by the outpouring of support from my fellow mobi enthusiasts and I thank you all from the bottom of my heart. But I hope you all can understand I'm not exactly feeling the love from NP Management, the sting of this situation does not fade as quick as the removal of the ban. But regardless, RJ, I thank you for removing the ban especially from the standpoint of clearing my name. And I applaud your substantive move to change the tone of the mobi forum here at NamePros. It is regrettable this change was not made when the many many members here were crying out for it several months ago. The other forum was started in large part in response to the same issues you are now choosing to aggressively confront. Can't turn back time though, and the other forum has now taken on a substantive life of its own. Regardless, the changes you are now making are undoubtedly positive for the .mobi community as a whole and again I thank you. Without a doubt it will reduce the headaches for you and your team as well.

RJ and other mods on this forum, I would just like to take a moment to let you know that I have been actively participating in other parts of this forum but not .mobi because I felt positively drained by the negativity, even though the bulk of my portfolio and energy is spent on .mobi.

I'm only just over six months into this forum, so my voice may not carry much if any weight here. However do know that I am always someone who is willing to help out in a fundraiser, give meaningful advice (especially on chat) as well as learn from others.

Thank you for doing something to restore an environment that is conducive to learning and conducting business, which I strongly felt was still missing until you reinstated Scandiman, so thank you for that.

I'm looking forward to giving the .mobi forum another chance.
