.mobi TRAFFIC West Live Commentary -- For Mobi enthusiasts

I figure a lot of the people here -- like myself -- are not very interested in the non .mobi sales at TRAFFIC West; so the main discussion thread might not be the optimal place for us to talk about the proceedings.

Lets use this thread instead.

For reference: Main Discussion Thread.

I'm glad that lots of .mobis sold. However I hope that MTLD will learn their lesson and save the premium .mobis for the RFP process, which is what they were originally intended for. I am torn (bittersweet) to see Singles.mobi sell for $40K... great for the aftermarket, but that was one name we were preparing to submit an application (RFP) for after we finished developing our own portal under the Single.mobi name (it'll still work out perfect for our needs). I'm glad that I bought Single.mobi around Christmas so that I wouldn't have to pay more for it now. :)

However seeing EAT.mobi go for under $7K was quite a shock, but I hope some developers have acquired these great .mobi domains (Eat, Singles, RealEstate, etc). The .mobi universe needs more great destination sites out there. Maybe MTLD will realize that it's better to make sure a domain like EAT.mobi is saved for the RFP process to ensure it goes into a developers hands instead of them pocketing $7K.

yup, but at the same time there are great.com names going on at the same time. How many people get to bid on them there?

pizza.mobi 21K ... ok now i'm shocked ... most definitely no end user bidding wars, mtld may have been better off with some high reserves on a couple of these, i bet they do next time around

labrocca,

so what if rick didn't bid the 200, the damn domain would have sold for $190,000 to 800fowers, would you be saying the same thing then?

overall i think the .mobis are representing themselves very well, my top pick was pizza, so we'll see ..

That's sort of the point though. It was flowers.com bidding for flowers.mobi and EVERYONE knew it. Either Rick thought he could flip it to them after the sale or he wasn't expecting to win. He could also just have been testing the mobi market or ....he could have simply wanted the attention. It's Rick show and lord knows he likes the attention. I am VERY doubtful that Rick intended to pay $200k for flowers.mobi. Many were shocked and still are.

you post as though you know everything about that auction and yet you know absolutely nothing

Now that's a ridiculous assumption!

Agree. I would have loved to develop eat.mobi. I wish I had brought it at that price.

Are you feeling the water yet on your feet as the ship slowly sinks?

Pizza.mobi...fair price. Notice how none of the mobi's appear to have a reserve and the sellers are most likely happy to get whatever the market will fetch for them.

Probably you don't know. Most are sold by mTLD and not by the domineer, so no reserve.

or perhaps MTLD should have waited and saved most (if not all of these premiums) for the RFP process (that was the ORIGINAL biusiness model, right?). It would make much more sense and hopefully they have learned that the auction process in a room full of domainers (many of whom subscribe to the current belief of PPC-valuation & many of whom probably read Frank Schilling's latest anti-mobi blog - LOL) is not the best route for them to pass out the premium domains.

Wouldn't it have made much more sense for them to save PIZZA.mobi and round up the usual suspects for the application process? Perhaps they need to hire more people to spearhead the process of making sure that certain category-killer domains end up in front of a targeted group of suitors versus the current method of offering up such a specialized domain name when your target market is nowhere to be seen. I'd love to have a long talk with them and see if I can offer any assistance. :)

time will tell. (but in the meantime, keep developing.)

if the .mobi ship is starting to sink, then lets "all do our job and make it sail and not rely on the others" (by developing/promonting). We have enough people here to do it with alot of talents on Namepros and we have alot of names to make it happen!

Guys... it's still early in the life of .mobi. Give it time. Some of these guys are getting some incredible deals. We'll never see these prices again for these domains because in a few years they'll go for three times or more.

And someone mentioned earlier, mtld needs to call the right companies and let them know what is going on. I'm sure that they would have bid had they known.

YAWN!

Once again... you are speaking as if you know everything. Don't act like you have any insight/knowledge into what went on. You trying to tell us that you know exactly what Rick's plans were and I think it is ridiculous for you to assume you know what his intentions were.

offer us your own insight and stop being such a fair-weather fan. if you look at your past quotes, when it comes to .mobi you sway from side-to-side so often it's always appears that you're trolling. if you choose to sit on the fence, that's cool, but stop trying to turn every thread into an anti-mobi thread. There are many of us here that are serious about .mobi, heavily invested in the development aspect, and here to network with like-minded people... if this were a social club, supper club, nightclub, etc... you would have been given a final warning or thrown out for being consistently disruptive. There are plenty of other threads, domain boards, etc where anti-mobi-ism is permitted, your friends & fan club are over there...

... stop trying to save us from our ourselves.

Why do the mods put up with this at all? it is obvious he is here to troll. Does it generate more page views? or?

doesn't it actually deteriorate the community aspect of this site to allow this to continue?

perhaps that's why much of the .mobi discussion has moved onto private boards and alliance websites. not shocked at all.

Personal opinions aside...

EAT.mobi under $7K

Pizza.mobi $21K

It would seem a bit of reality has set-in.

:hi:

I knew Flowers can be expensive ... never knew you'd need a (Real Estate) mortgage loan to buy 'em! :yell:

Side-by-side ... these two sales prices are out of whack, IMHO. :guilty:
Anyone else feel the same way?

on another note:

Families.com just sold for $650K.
Wonder if the Mormons bought it? (they bought Families.mobi and are deep-rooted in geneaology, etc)
or perhaps Disney (family.com (family.mobi is premium)).

congrats to buyer and seller.
I wonder if they bought the entire site, and if not, what happens to all the users and their blogs. :-/

I think the .mobi prices are more realistic this time around as well. Maybe this will finally influence people to stop trying to sell me their LLL.mobis for 5 figures :)

It seems that some .mobi fans see these prices as a failure, but that just shows their perception might have been manipulated by the hype. The fact is, if these were .US .INFO or .BIZ selling at these same prices only months after those extensions launched, it would have been considered a success.

Because I just woke-up, logged on for the first time today, and went straight to the last page of the thread for the most recent updates. I did not see those others yet.
