Maybe for the former (depending entirely on the situation), certainly not for the latter, unless it was part of a campaign of harassment and job related.
Let's dispose of the word "gender," as it is an invention of left wing academics and pseudo-academics. It has been used for centuries as a synonym for sex and only recently changed because of hard driving campaigns by various political interests and activists. For practical purposes, two genders (original meaning) has worked well enough. Yes, hermaphrodites and various others fall through the cracks, but welcome to life. We don't all fit neatly into all categories. And of course there are people with various attributes of the opposite gender, sometimes considerably so. Women who have lived as man and vice-versa. No worries.
Do such people run into difficulties? Of course. Anyone who has anything outside of the norm runs into difficulties: people with lisps, those with physical handicaps, those who are left handed, and those who have trouble fitting into society for any number of reasons. Some of the greatest people in history were misfits. No problem there.
The problem comes when such people demand that others' rights be taken away (in this case, particularly women's rights - I am a feminist in the true sense of the word). On top of invading women's private spaces and depriving them of a separate athletic field of endeavor, this new "non-binary" fashion appeals especially to those who suffer from the endemic narcissism that plagues Western society these days. "Look at me, I am special and have special pronouns! Call me by them or I'll squeal and ruin your life!"
Like I said, it's odd that you are so fascinated with this issue of marginal importance, not having any personal stake in it. But to each his/her own. The issues that Mr-x raises are clear violations of common sense, so having to debate that gets rather tedious. You keep retreating and rephrasing your argument and we end up back at the same spot. That pretty much describes most of what happens in this thread, but I'd rather waste my words on a more interesting topic.
