Certainly it's rude, perhaps even harassment. But not a crime unless other factors are involved. It's not a violation of my human rights for somebody to dislike me and express it.
No, not a crime. But certainly worthy of losing your job over, or even paying damages for if the victim were to sue you.
As yet another bullshit Woke non-word.
Do you think there is a gender (or genders) outside of only male and female?

Maybe for the former (depending entirely on the situation), certainly not for the latter, unless it was part of a campaign of harassment and job related.

Let's dispose of the word "gender," as it is an invention of left wing academics and pseudo-academics. It has been used for centuries as a synonym for sex and only recently changed because of hard driving campaigns by various political interests and activists. For practical purposes, two genders (original meaning) has worked well enough. Yes, hermaphrodites and various others fall through the cracks, but welcome to life. We don't all fit neatly into all categories. And of course there are people with various attributes of the opposite gender, sometimes considerably so. Women who have lived as man and vice-versa. No worries.

Do such people run into difficulties? Of course. Anyone who has anything outside of the norm runs into difficulties: people with lisps, those with physical handicaps, those who are left handed, and those who have trouble fitting into society for any number of reasons. Some of the greatest people in history were misfits. No problem there.

The problem comes when such people demand that others' rights be taken away (in this case, particularly women's rights - I am a feminist in the true sense of the word). On top of invading women's private spaces and depriving them of a separate athletic field of endeavor, this new "non-binary" fashion appeals especially to those who suffer from the endemic narcissism that plagues Western society these days. "Look at me, I am special and have special pronouns! Call me by them or I'll squeal and ruin your life!"

Like I said, it's odd that you are so fascinated with this issue of marginal importance, not having any personal stake in it. But to each his/her own. The issues that Mr-x raises are clear violations of common sense, so having to debate that gets rather tedious. You keep retreating and rephrasing your argument and we end up back at the same spot. That pretty much describes most of what happens in this thread, but I'd rather waste my words on a more interesting topic.

All words are at some point invented or changed to take on new meaning. As a linguistics student, you should know that better than most. Our language evolves as we evolve, and the current definition (and understanding) of gender vs. sex is a perfect example of that.

You demean the shared experience of millions of people worldwide by referring to them as people who "fall through the cracks." It's as convenient as it is ignorant for you to want to see non gender-conforming people in this way. Quite frankly, it's borderline hateful to want to stuff people into that box so that you can feel more comfortable. I assume that, like the others who have spoken out here, you're just scared of something you don't understand, and are struggling to make it fit into more traditional definitions.

I don't want anyone's rights to be taken away. And I absolutely agree that governments and corporations today have a tendency to overreact to minority voices who proclaim loudly that they are being mistreated. There's a lot of improvement that can be made there. What I find encouraging is that these hasty actions are at least evidence of a society that's more open and willing to accept and recognize the need for equity, and the changes that will get us closer to it.

Anyway, you're clearly looking to escape this debate... I'm sure you'll "waste" a little more time to sneak in the last word, though, to collect a few more likes from the crew. ;)

I'll leave you guys to it. Sorry for interrupting the thread with actual discourse. You can go back to patting yourselves on the back for posting bitter memes.

There's natural evolution and forced "evolution" (coerced Orwellian changes).

I'll break out the violin here....

What are you on about here? Human beings categorize - it's how we make sense of the world. I suppose some do it to make themselves feel more comfortable. Say, putting someone in that box called haters so someone can feel more comfortable about their own views? Is that what you meant?
I assume that, like the others who have spoken out here, you're just scared of something you don't understand
Another box! You are the Amazon of contributors to this thread. Like I said earlier, I understand this better than you, or at least have had many more years of experience and interaction with what you call "non-binaries."

Well, yeah. Going around in circles and all. If it makes you fell better, I just gave you a couple likes.:xf.smile:

If Donald Trump was still president, Neil Young ( and most liberals ) would be warning you about the dangers of the RNA vaccine.
"Ahh, you can call me Ray, or you can call me Jay, or you can call me Johnny or you can call me Sonny, or you can call me RayJay, or you can call me RJ… but ya doesn’t hafta call me Johnson." - Bill Saluga

If Donald wore a dress would he still be a duck? Possibly having had polio as a child influenced Young's decision.

I like both silly Canadians, Joni and Neil, for their great music. Sad to see them supporting censorship and the suppression of information - it's a complete reversal of what they stood for before they got all old and wrinkly. What is it that so many old people go into this final stage of brain lockdown and simply reject any possibility of change or that they might be wrong? They stop trying. I really hope that doesn't happen to me - I see it as the final stage of giving up on life.

Anti-misinformation... and yes, they were both fringe artists before they became popular (mainstream).

Neil has always been a freedom fighter. Spotify made their choice and Neil made his. Would you advertise/host your domain portfolio on a porn site? :xf.laugh:

Anti-misinformation...
Sigh... people need to be informed. They cannot be if a handful of people decide what they are allowed to read or hear.
Would you advertise/host your domain portfolio on a porn site?
Interviewing noted professionals with opinions that contradict notorious drug companies, misinformation laden corporate news media, and shady politicians is the same as porn?

One combats misinformation with better information, not by banning speech. This is a basic fact that people have sadly forgotten. Future generations will not be grateful for the gagged world you leave them in.

Spotify, Parler...makes no difference to me. People will make their own choice of where to access info/music, just as any business/musician has a right to move their portfolio. How does one object to objection?

Well now you're actually putting words in my mouth just to make your argument. I never said that it worked. Right now all I'm doing is simply showing that non-binary people do in fact exist, and that it is not a mental illness or plea for attention.
People are not non-binary, they are either male or female with conflicting feelings and possibly overly feminine or masculine personality traits.

You can't claim gender is about how you think and feel, then claim abnormal, unhealthy destructive personality traits are normal.

You already seem to understand that they exist, so we're on the same page here. I'm not sure why you keep trying to rebut me on something you agree with.

Actually all of you seem to be in slightly different places in terms of your beliefs and opinions, and some of your are trying to debate multiple issues at once, so it's tough to keep the discussion focused.

If you and I can both agree that non-binary people do indeed exist, and deserve some kind of rights to be able to self-identify and be identified, then I'm happy to go from there and discuss the use of multiple pronouns.
People are free to express themselves as they wish. They are not entitled to my approval or respect.

You believe that being non-binary is a mental illness. Since we share no common ground on the existence of non-binary people, there's no point in discussing the associated rights and expectations.

LOL. Call it a personality disorder if that makes you feel better. Great way to deflect and avoid the obvious flaws in your argument though.

It's not about calling someone a "real" woman or man. What does that even mean?
Are you saying you don't know what a real women is or you don't know about the "trans women" are "women" activism? Because saying trans-woman are not real women on corporate social media will get you censored or banned.

If I met this person and they said their name is Susan and they use they/them pronouns, then I would use that name and those pronouns when talking to or about them.

If you are willing to accept a 26 year old man with a history of criminal behavior is a woman, than using silly made up pronouns isn't much difference.

Freedom of speech is freedom to object, of course. But it's a sign of ignorance to object to something that is not a moral issue, but a debatable issue of health. And the danger is that people such as Young are pushing for real censorship.

You know what happened to Parler? They said "if you don't like our censorship, make your own Twitter. Parler did, and the combined forces of monopolistic companies such as Amazon, Apple and Google worked with the government to shut it down.

Imagine a few years ago if the phone company disconnected your telephone because it didn't like your opinions, and said, "If you don't like it, build your own phone company."

Worse, imagine someone does actually build a phone company for those oppressed people, and then the phone company teams with the electric company and company parts suppliers (and government support) to put them out of business.

This is not a big leap. This disingenuous "it's a private company and they can do what they like" bs will come back to bite you all on the ass. It always does.

There's always a 'tug o' war' between personal/public rights and responsibilities, individual freedoms and societal obligations.

While I object to vaccine mandates and invasive government restrictions, I am not a Covid denier. It's a rabbit hole either way, and Neil drew the line. Neil is no stranger to political views, in fact, he's one of the few old-school musicians left who haven't sold out. Besides, I've never used Spotify, it's also said to have lower audio quality. I have CD's and Youtube, or can go direct to Neil's Garage if I wanna hear tunes...

Anyway, why would you care what platform his company chooses for downloads? :xf.rolleyes:

That's regrettable but I appreciate your opinions. For the record, my memes are cheeky and fun.
