information I will never help another domainer

So I have a guy hit me up with an unsolicited direct message asking me to buy a 3 letter domain -he did the same thing months ago with another name and I nicely said no.
He wanted 6 figures months ago and now 50k. It is a nice 3 letter but I am trying to sell Birdsnest.com and pacemakers.com right now so I’m tied up.
The guy keeps messaging me so I decide to help him out and I reach out to my big boy contacts - I try not to bother these guys unless it’s something good and out of my range.
This is on Monday - a holiday where I live. My big guy gives me a number and the seller doesn’t like it. Ok - don’t take it - goodbye. Nope - comes back with another number. I tell him my big guy won’t negotiate- he insists.
At this point I am a broker on this deal! My big guy literally tells me “ tell him to fuck off” and my big guy is in the middle of closing on a house. The buyer knows all this information and keeps pushing. He finally tells me he will take the big guys offer after hours of telling me he has had better offers. I’m shielding my big guy from all this nonsense to help the seller get a deal done - he seems desperate.
I literally tell him that the big guy is buying a house as we speak - he has to agree and then I will give you his email for escrow. I’m not giving out the big guys name or email to anyone or he will disown me.
He keeps pressing me for his address.
It’s a holiday - I’m off work - my wife is complaining because I’m ignoring her and the kids - it was the last 80 degree day in Buffalo for 7 months. The buyer is busy buying a house with his wife out of the country with a time difference.
I finally get the ok from the big boy to give him an address to start escrow. I DM the buyer the address and.......POOF! Not even a thank you. It’s been 2 days and I know Escrow closed - the last message is me giving him an email address and then silence.
I literally spent hours as a go between helping this seller - I had to keep a buffer or the big boy would have told him to kiss his ass and backed out.
I spent my day off helping someone and not even a thanks - if you read this - it’s normally 10% - you’re welcome- that was a big sale - enjoy you sale and money.

Why were you expecting 10%, and not, let's say, 50%?

Get terms before not after the sale.
The guy might have thought the other guy was hooking you up.
Andrew could hook you up with a little something for bringing him the sale. Or, I'm sure you'll be taken care of later. Maybe get some kind of deal with him for bringing him sales like this.

Ha ha as soon as I saw the F OFF, I thought that also, but I would have thought any 3L.com domain owner who has any sense of the domain business would have just directly brought it to them, I am sure they are willing to hear out any 3L.com buyer. They tend to know when a seller is desperate, and will leave just enough meat on the bone for them to bite. Most likely $50K, went down to $35K.

No idea. The seller might have just seen the other big sale and figured he had some money to spend and tried to sell it to him directly. I do think he'll eventually get hooked up for it, or maybe a token beforehand.

If you expect something in return, it's not a friendly help, it's business with a stranger. Your conflict is here.

The guy may not appreciate your "help" if he thinks he made loss for selling his domain for cheap. Domainers frequently fall in love with their domains and may regret or have mixed feelings after the sale. This might explain his silence. Human psychology is a complex thing.

You can't make this stuff up, the seller is the same "Small Guy" who was blowing smoke up Schwartz's jaxie for saying this

I am sure some domainers sold NNN.com domain for $1000, $5000, $25,000 or even $50,000. At each and every level, those domainers left BIG MONEY on the table. They were in a rush to sell. What else is new? I started pricing my NNN.com at $100k ++ back before it ever hit $5k. I watched them climb from nothing to $1 Million and some for even more.

3 letter domains are selling for around $25k-37k. Way too cheap!! 1/10 of what the prices should be and probably will be in the not too distant future. LLL.com domains are worth a MINIMUM $100k! Any less is weak. Selling too cheap. A unique asset to fill a unique need of something very specific and you pull your pants down??!! WEAK!

under 3-Weeks later seller get's premature ejaculation and sells for $27.5k

@uglydork got a 3 letter domain to someone looking to increase his portfolio. From the sounds of it he is a bigger player and deals in top end domains. By maintaining a good relationship and possibly procuring a domain for him you are building bridges. What matters here is not the dick you dealt with but the so called big boy that purchased the domain. In this business we have long memories and we know who helped who and who did what.

It's a small industry, with many rivers to cross, the more bridges you build the better off you are.

Looks like the seller was in a bind, and the buyer had the money to spend in one of their favorite niches, a perfect match. Given the sellers bind, they probably came out of it with less than they wanted, but had no choice, so they probably were counting all their pennies on that transaction. If they used escrow, you should have gone thru the broker transaction, and put your fee in there, and done the deal if it was Media Options they probably keep a funded balance there, so it would have gone pretty quick.

It literally started out as a favor. Im not claiming to be a big insider who knows everyone - dont read into my post. I am only upset that I spent an entire day on something without a thank you. It has nothing to do with money.
