So I am a big fan of Who is, I like it because I had a experience along time ago of a guy who came to my door and my wife being the cool cat she is answered the door. Guy was pissed because he thought his name was on a site I owned. I had no idea who the guy was, just happens to share a common name with a family member. Anyway back to story, guy demands to have his name taken off. He said he sent numerous emails, etc.. (I never got these) He punches my wife straight in the face, I was too late of course, but he was like you will do as I say. What was said on the site wasn't pretty but not at him.

I want to sell some sites but I have the whois enabled. What do you do to to still have a successful sell?

Are there other ways to confirm ownership?

Thanks..

Jim

perhaps i've misunderstood then.

most whois privacy services i know of will forward emails sent to the privacy email to your email address, so you could use that to confirm ownership?

If you have a private or public website with controversial subject, politics, religion, or other matter or are hiding for some legal reason, there are a few good uses for whois privacy. ...If you can trust the organization providing it. A lot of domain owners lost or nearly lost their domains due to whois privacy with registerfly.com last year. However, I also tend not to trust sites that use whois privacy since it appears they are trying to hide something.

If you are trying to sell domains, I think it's pretty short sighted. I get a fair amount of offers from those who have contact me based on the whois contacts. I think buyers also trust you more in a sale if you aren't hiding behind a proxy service.

An criminal as your story tells will probably find you somehow anyway. They are best dealt with by law enforcement. Your case seems to be an unusual one.

What I do is mention my public email in the organisation box and beside my name "Domain for Sale". I have been successful with many inquiries resulting in sales.
