Hyphen?

I have found domain that consists of 2 saleable words but they are split with a hyphen.
It is a .com domain, will the hyphen devalue the domain alot???

I picked it up at auction for $0. I just found out that the .net version is listed on Flippa for min $788 and BIN $1288.

Wondering if that is reasonable and if I could sell my .com in that range.

Germany is the exception like I said to Shane That doesn't mean I would disagree with any of the comments on this thread that a hyphen greatly reduces the value of the name. On .de domains a hyphen may be preferred.

I must add that I was not able to get anything more than mid $xxx for a hyphenated name

in germany that is the natural way to type domains if they consist of 2 words
but then, if type in, that would refer to .de

The exception to the hyphen rule is; hyphens are good on .de domains. Germans like hyphens. Hyphens on .com domains are not very desirable in general.

Yes they are but with German words. When .de is taken - .com is very nice reserve
But in general - you have right.

Tell us then what % of them sold with hyphens & then we will see if hyphens are a waste of $$!!

As well u talk about Germany buying them well how many are in German and what % of the .de sales is a hyphen?

Iveowned and still do have some hyphen domains BTW but IMO its still a waste of doe

I try to stay away from hyphens these days ...but I did pick up one recently and had a buyer interested, but after he did a little research ... he decided that they're not what they used to be (as far as Google goes).

Also, in 2011, I sold a hyphed .net for $2,100 ... and I also picked up another hyphened .net that same year on the drop for $50 that made $x,xxx's from traffic

German companies love hyphens, If you check dnjournal every week, most weeks there are at least one hyphenated .DE sale, if not more...

I sold Las-Vegas.co for $1100 (I was surprised by the sale as well)
