Another reason hyphenated domains are not popular is that one can add multiple hyphens in a single domain. I wonder how a hyphenated domain is advertised on the radio? "So log on to h hyphen y p h e n hyphen hyphen hyphen a t hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen hyphen e hyphen d .com." Could be a nice jingle...or a rap song.

yu-gi-oh

Apparently the hyphenated name yu-gi-oh became popular among kids. But even yu-gi-oh eventually dropped the hyphens for www.yugioh.com.

Hyphens will never amount to anything.

To hyphenate or not to hyphenate, that is the question.
Four score and seven hyphens ago...
We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect hyphen...
A hyphen is a girl's best friend.
A hyphen that will live in infamy.
Would you like hyphen with that?
"Is it..is it, another hyphen?...sob sob.."
Check out that girl's hyphens!!!

And how come hyphens aren't hyphenated?

Again, a little too much free time at the office for me.

Lots of debate already on this one. The facts (I was brokering it for a while so the seller gave me access to stats):

*200 uniques a day, virtually all type in; was closer to 400 day in spring/summer
*40% click thru rate from surfers

I guess it comes down to how well you can monetize the traffic. A bit tricky with this one since the name of the domain has the word "free" in it. But lots of free trial sponsors to choose from, I suppose.

As soon as it was sold at $15K, offers came in a few K higher. But I think both the buyer and seller were happy with the deal, and that's what matters. :)

but when you throw a hyphen in there that meens nothing as for search engine results, people will type in the without the hyphen, plus you cant search search engines for "blah-blah" since it will come out searching for "blah blah"

No., it is true that people likes to type without hyphens. But for most of the searchbots, Hyphens are considered as space, so when one types for
"free sex movies", "free-sex-movies.com" gets more weightage.

Adult sites and casinos mostly depend on search engine listings rather than a typein domain.

Lol., too bad. :)

The buyer is really lucky., If he is an adult webmaster, he can very well attain good SE rankings With this gem. :)
