GoDaddy Bugs

First, GD is my favorite registrar so far.

Second, they do have bunch of bugs and the fact that they don't go away for months and years while new ones pop up regularly just baffles me.

Anyway, in this thread I will be posting the issues I am having and hopefully with the help of the magnificent @Joe Styler something starts happening.

So, the fresh one:

For about one week now, in the GD new interface, I select certain sorting of the names (let's say by appraised value) and it shows me first 500 names, then if I click the arrow for the next page, it gives me the rotating circle saying "loading" that won't go away for hours (yes, I have tested, while doing something else).

What worries me is that the new interface will become the only one, while it still lacks most of the functionality of the old one, but that is another thing for now.

@Joe Styler

First, thank you for your continued support for the issues the community is having.

Second, I still cannot reverse sort my domains by expiration date. It just does the permanent wheel circling.

I cannot sort by listed for sale... It becomes nightmare to look through which names are not listed, when you have 3100 names. When I try to go page by page, and select some, I spend hours doing it and when I try to list on marketplace after this, then it just gives me error message.

And, for names that were 3-4 days late and were already taken from Afternic (by the way, afternic does this only to GD names and not to other registrars), relisting after renewal gives "compliance error" that stays like that forever.

Some domains that are flagged as high risk are pulled manually to be checked. We have a pretty robust system in place to stop theft. Something on this transfer must have triggered that. You can reply and they will release it right away.
As a part of normal daily activities, I have to peform both transfer-ins and transfer-outs.
I saw this extra verification in 1Q 2018. Each and every transferaway was flagged, but promptly processed after I responded to a separate email. To the best of my knowledge, there was nothing special - those were not "million dollar" domains, I did not have failed logins, or lost password requests etc. At some point of time in 2019, all returned to normal - no emails, just online transfer acceptance - so the transfers were almost instant. Now, something is changed again. Requested a transfer on Friday. Approved it as usual. Still pending. Extra email received on Sunday (+2 days). Responded immediately. Domain released earlier today.

... where I noticed another bug. In pending transfers out section, it showed domain creation date in "Date Initiated" column.

Saw that too, on all "flagged" domains. I have never had this "flag" problem before and am using 2FA so it baffles me that I have such a delay in transferring out my own domains.

On Aug 13th I PMed a message with a screenshot about this issue to Joe.

They still seem to work on it.

The first one about reverse sorting by expiration date should be released in the next week or so, the development work was completed on it.

The sorting by which names are listed is more complex because of where that data lives but there is a ticket for it with the developers. In the meantime they are also working on adding that to the exportable list option so there is a way to see that data until the other fix takes place. We also discussed them adding in a for sale price in the export that shows what you listed the domain name for sale at if it is listed.

This would allow you to with a few quick clicks to get everything sorted as you want it. You could also copy and paste the data onto a spreadsheet from Afternic.com and upload it there with any updates you wanted to make to the listings in bulk. You could also reconcile the listings that way by comparing the lists.

Either way you will be able to sort by both, (and the rest of the columns on there), but the expiration date one will be the soonest.

On the removal from AN names that is the first I heard of it giving an compliance error. I will check into that. I also can set you up with someone who can do those things for you on the back end if you get stuck with it a lot so you don't have to worry about the error. Just PM me and I will have someone reach out.

New bug with transfers. Normally you can complete a transfer out in under 15 minutes by following these GD instructions https://uk.godaddy.com/help/accept-or-decline-a-transfer-away-from-godaddy-6040
But now after doing that it just says "Your transfer is pending." Then next day you get an email to the registrant email address saying transfer will take place in five days, if you want to speed it up please reply to this email. Bizarre, not working as usual or as described in GD's instructions.
That is not a bug that is a feature :) There are some domain transfers that trigger a manual look before the domain is released. Over the years we have caught some high value domains this way that were attempted thefts.
It is a small percentage of domains that trigger this which is why you have probably not noticed it before. We have had this in place for years. The last I checked, since we implemented this (knock on wood) we have not had a domain that was compromised leave GoDaddy which makes returning it to the rightful owner an easy task. Recovering a domain once it goes to another registrar is certainly possible but often time consuming and costly for the original registrant and may involve going to a court.
It is just another layer of security we offer our customers. Even with 2fa if you have a 7 figure name thieves can find ways to convince the phone provider to port your phone number to them, etc.
We try and strike a balance between ease of use and protecting our customers and we have iterated on this over the time it has been in use to help reduce the overall time frame we hold domains up for and the amount of false positives we generate. We don't want to stop anyone from moving a domain or make it hard for them, but we also don't want anyone to have their domain names stolen. It is a balance.

We have a ticket in on this with the developers.

Hi Joe thanks for the info, and I guess I should feel flattered that a few unloved domains bought at closeouts were valued highly enough by GD to trigger a security alert on exiting.

But communication could be improved here and save time and money when this happens by a) saying right away what is happening and b) explaining, as you have, that it is intended to protect the customer. Otherwise we are left in the dark and end up contacting support or believing the bugs are multiplying even more.

I went to pay for an expired auction and it wouldn't let me add it to the basket. Tried this on 2 different devices, 4 different browsers. The basket was simply empty every time it redirected to the checkout.

Dave, you are not alone.

I entertained this forum yesterday with the same strange experience. Start reading here.

I forget the exact number because it's been a while but it is something like an extremely small number of people who renew later than 7 days after expiration, and it tapers down from there as well even smaller. Most people who want to keep their domain renew before there is any redemption fee added.
That's not what I was getting at....

I think you said the impact is nominal - so why piss people off with t

Joe seems like a real nice guy. BUT, I don't think he has the power to get this stuff fixed.

Joe, About time Godaddy replaces Charles Beadnall. As continually stated, Godaddy's code and back-end are a complete mess - worse than any other online site I am a part of - way worse.

Hi Joe it happened again on what I would say is a low value domain. Only after 24+ hours do I get an email saying that I need to respond to that email to transfer the domain - there is no communication before that to say there may be a delay or futher verification needed. But there is an interesting point in the email as you can see - the transfer will proceed anyway after 5 days. So the flagging only has the effect of delaying transfer, and presumable no further emails are sent to registrant before transfer completes. Does this make sense given the delay, inconvenience, and uncertaintly it generates?
Hello,
We are contacting you regarding the transfer of EXAMPLE.COM. To authorize this transfer, please respond to this email and confirm whether you wish to allow the transfer to occur.
If we do not receive a response, the transfer will be automatically approved after 5 days.
Kind Regards,
Transfer Verify | GoDaddy

Also you do make a valid point about people being able to spoof your phone number to receive 2FA verification texts, which is why authentication via an authentication app is preferable and thankfully is offered by GD. Perhaps these security flags should not go up where 2FA is in place and is not SMS based.

Yesterday I purchased a bunch of domains from a fellow Namepros member. They had to be transfered by Godaddy push.
The domain seller did not fix to use my Whois for whatever reason. I accepted the incoming names and had to adapt Whois data. Again, I had to fill every single data field instead of having a choice to checkbox (one of) my Whois data and finish. I did this in bulk and confirmed.
The Whois change was only done for the first name in the list. This one is still pending transfer, the other names including the old Whois seller data have been moved to my account (!).
Now trying to bulk change Whois for these names but Domain Management would just do it for the alphabetical last domain in the list. And again, I would have to do this by writing every text field.

What I don´t understand: We discussed the failing bulk change for Autorenew on-off in this thread. Did the programmers have no idea to check the bug for other bulk changes while repairing it for Autorenew?

I read that the Brazilian President blamed ecologic activists - in case not yet murdered or imprisoned - for burning the rainforest. Glad Godaddy is American. Would like to post a smiling Emoji now, but the context with Brazil should not allow it. Excuse my side glance everybody.
This is happening to me now. I purchased a big bulk of domains, and have been trying to push them for 7 days. It's taken me hours!! No days to do this!! I've even had to repeat the process twice on the same domain. Now I'm receiving the following notice when I try to approve the contact changes.... Given request is invalid. If you feel this is incorrect please try again. Other registrars allow a bulk push within 5 minutes. Why has GoDaddy made this so difficult, and does anybody know a faster way to do this? :banghead::banghead::banghead::banghead:

My destiny as a martyr will fulfill :dead:

No mood for kidding? While the Godaddy transfers from and to other registrars are smooth again, you accept and the name is out, there seem to be continuing issues with push inside Godaddy. The main difficulty is they changed the seller/pusher instruction for Whois action by 180°, IMHO. While all the time before you had click a checkbox if you wanted to change Whois into buyer´s data, now you have to click a checkbox if you want to keep the seller´s data. Or was it the other way round? This is the main reason why buyer has a lot of homework changing Whois. The time-consuming method doing this is surely not what Godaddy expect by themselves.

I had the same experience right now. My Godaddy rep has reminded me to open the link in a private browser window. Then it works and in a minute the Whois change is confirmed.

That hasn't worked me. I had to have the seller cancel the transfers and have him resend them. Now I have changed the contact info, I approve the the contact change email, but now I am receiving emails saying that the domain ownership has been approved but it's blank with no domain name. This is now happening to all the domains I am approving, and none have gone into my account. They're still pending in transfer in. Has this happened to anyone?

Joe - Seriously - Why can't you get this fixed? Why can't godaddy fix all these push issues? Can't you see how many folks are at their wits end?
