GoDaddy Bugs

First, GD is my favorite registrar so far.

Second, they do have bunch of bugs and the fact that they don't go away for months and years while new ones pop up regularly just baffles me.

Anyway, in this thread I will be posting the issues I am having and hopefully with the help of the magnificent @Joe Styler something starts happening.

So, the fresh one:

For about one week now, in the GD new interface, I select certain sorting of the names (let's say by appraised value) and it shows me first 500 names, then if I click the arrow for the next page, it gives me the rotating circle saying "loading" that won't go away for hours (yes, I have tested, while doing something else).

What worries me is that the new interface will become the only one, while it still lacks most of the functionality of the old one, but that is another thing for now.

I am a buyer in a large escrow transaction, that is hanging in the wind of a godaddy push.

At one time I welcomed a good godaddy push, now I dread it.

Joe - Seriously - Why can't you get this fixed? Why can't godaddy fix all these push issues? Can't you see how many folks are at their wits end?
I let the team know about it. Thanks for sharing it.
Joe - you just posted. Are you able to finally fix these issues?

Another one.

When you delete a domain at Godaddy, it seems they don't actually delete it even if their instructions say they do. What is going on here?

If you delete a domain normally it is supposed to leave your registrar account immediately and not be recoverable, and just drops - which matters if someone demands you hand it over, it is now out of your control and the only way for them to get it is to dropcatch it. But Godaddy's process says "Delete" and sends you an email saying it is cancelled, the Godaddy account says its status is Cancelled, then later when you are not looking your account changes the domain's status to Expired-Recoverable and it stays in your account.

Here are the instructions:https://uk.godaddy.com/help/cancel-my-domain-412 and they say:
We understand there may be situations where you no longer wish to have a domain name registered to you. If you decide to cancel (delete) a domain from your account, you can do so at any time. When you cancel a domain name, it is immediately deleted from your account.

It is so frustrating - nothing works at Godaddy.

Having a Godaddy account is like driving a 20-year-old car... The shit that hasn't worked for years, still doesn't work, and your always wondering what's going to fail you next....

It has always been like that. We do not have to send your domain to the registry when you delete it. We have always had a buffer to protect against people who accidentally delete things. We will not change this.

Then why have the language, "It is immediately deleted from your account"?

No, maybe I have been using Godaddy longer than you - in the past delete meant delete and it did leave your account at once and drop in about 30 days. I have done it.

So in the case you describe, does the domain just drop or do you try to sell it?
.

Because it may be immediately deleted under some circumstances. Different TLDs have different rules, the domain lifecycle also plays a part in it, the length of time the domain was registered etc etc there are a lot of variables. In the majority of cases you can still renew it if you mistakenly delete it. However, we feel it is better to set the expectation that the domain will not be recoverable because there is that chance. It is also going to potentially break a bunch of things in your account if they are tied to the domain such as email for example. We could write a 50 page help article to cover all the scenarios that could happen that no one would read or we can do what we did.

And even if you do delete your domain and we send it to the registry depending on the lifecycle and the TLD etc your name is still going to be on the WHOIS and you won't be able to access the domain to pull it back, nor will we, say a pending delete status on a .com. You'll need an act of God or a court ruling to get that to change. So deleting a domain name when you have an order or a demand letter is probably not the best course of action anyway, but the OP should consult their own legal counsel to determine that.

I'm not talking about if you can see it in your account or not. I am talking about what the OP asks. Do we immediately drop it to the registry for someone to drop catch. No we don't (in most cases - see above there are caveats). We have done shorter than 30 days and much longer than 30 days in the past but we have not just dropped the domain immediately to the registry except in certain circumstances. This is what we generally do and we will not change that because it helps people who accidentally delete something.

Forced to accept 3 purchases into Godaddy as pushes - HAD TO ENTER INFO. THREE TIMES!!!!!

JOE! Seriously! Are you going to get this fixed?

I'd like to add how frustrating and annoying it is trying to get an auth code for GoDaddy registered names. In my experience there is a less than 40% chance of getting the code on first request, even after getting a confirmation in the control panel that one has been sent. I have used at least 15 registrars on a regular and extended basis, and GoDaddy is the only registrar where this is a longstanding and regular problem.

So... why?

Ok thanks. This could be cleared up for all users by just amending the terminology to read "renewal grace period" and "transfer grace period" as they are do different things and have different values.
Good point. I've been pretty confused about this language (or rather the number of days mentioned) since GoDaddy's change of policy.

I know Godaddy monitors this thread, so I hope they listen up and hear that instead of people attempting to take pushes at Godaddy, they are just moving the names out via auth code, it is easier, and faster.

I really hope they fix their issues within their platform, it's a shame with all their resources they cannot get past these bugs.

Another thing I would hope Godaddy to work on is for people to have an account balance, or add funds to a balance, they used to have that, like pretty much any other register has one.

Godaddy's lack of a response and/or fix, shows that they are in over their heads. I don't think they know how to fix. Epik would have had this fixed the same day. Rob Monster gets shit done

Generally speaking, the latest control panel upgrade was a disaster. It is live for some time already, and the issues are still appearing, and often. Moreover, from endusers point of view the new platform is far from optimal - starting from the roots. There is no practical need to use so many java, or to have infinite scrolling and the like. As a domainer, I've seen many dozens of different control panels, so it is not hard to compare. It is obvious that the developers did not really fix some things like mixed capitalization of different domains - domain1.com vs DOMAIN2.com, they are both in db and it is visible if one scrolls too fast. The domain capitalization is "normalized" on users end by the browser and java - what is it, a joke? What is GoDaddy thinking about? I mean in general, not in aspects of each particular bug... ? Shortly, was the lastest upgrade an improvement? No, it was a downgrade. Imho.

Maybe its time for GoDaddy management to check the following -

https://www.bobparsons.com/my-16-rules

"The moment you stop improving your organization, it starts to die. Make it your goal to be better each and every day, in some small way. Remember the Japanese concept of Kaizen. Small daily improvements eventually result in huge advantages."

(quote end)

Even though Bob Parsons (GD founder) is no more with GD, the above quote is something the current management should think about, and seriously...

GoDaddy was once my go-to registrar. I had enough domains there (300+) that I got the high-touch treatment.

Almost two years ago I decided to start moving all of my domains to Namesilo and DynaDot. Every time I try to get an auth code for one or two domains by clicking GD's "Get authorization code" on the domain/setting page, I receive nothing. It was not always this way, but it has certainly deteriorated in the last year. In this month I tried four times, on four different days, to get the get auth codes for two domains. It is clearly broken.

The only way to get auth codes is to "export" and click a box to include the auth codes. That is not even close to intuitive.

Thanks for all the feedback. Here is a portion of the work that was done over the past few weeks based mainly on feedback from customers.

  • Fixed issue where export from pasted group of domains exported all domains (now only includes selected domains)
  • Fixed issue with malformed phone number preventing Change of Account (COA)
  • Fixed issues with incorrectly formatted auth codes during transfers (scrubbing extra spaces when entered unintentionally)
  • Fixed issue with expired domains not being able to be unlocked.
  • Fixed issue with bulk CoA/ Change of Registrant (CoR) to allow contact info to be applied to many domains and accepted at the same time
  • Added domain status filters in Domain Manager (active, inactive, etc.)
  • Fixed DNS template
  • Fixed failed CoA's by preventing domains with privacy from starting CoA
  • Fixed issue with reverse sort by expiration date
  • Added functionality to press [TAB] between nameserver entry fields when modifying DNS
  • Fixed issue where forwarding information was not correctly displaying all details and full URL
  • Fixed loading issue in Afternic listings page on domain manager where browser kept spinning if too many domains were selected.
  • Added option to include authorization code in exports (no longer included automatically by default)
  • Added file compression option to export creation and default is now set not to compress export file
  • Fixed issue where Domain Manager not showing any prices in Pricing column and wrong pricing displayed (Such as Discount Domain Club (DDC) price when user has no DDC membership)
  • Fixed issues with bulk searches and filters
  • Fixed issue with applying bulk domains to folders and filters
  • Added option to include folders to export options
  • Fixed pagination issue where domains stopped loading after first several pages
  • Fixed exports for large portfolios to pull all domains and create downloadable file via page in Domain Manager
  • Added option to allow filtering by profile and folder
  • Fixed issue where Renew button was displaying without any eligible domains being selected

We have been busy working on the fixes or options everyone asks for. Thanks again for the feedback.

Thank you. Sorry for all the grief I post. It is just SOOOOOO frustrating. Thank you for paying attention and fixing these previously debilitating conditions.

The problem is that less than 5% of the people paying the $80 fee know that they can simply transfer to another registrar for $8 to avoide fee. Godady should be ashamed that they don't advise people of this. It's all about taking the registrant's $80 - WHEN IT DOESN'T COST GODADDY anymore to renew through the registry.

Is there a way to transfer out when the domain is in redemption period? Transfer would be the best solution, but I don't think that's possible - Auth code received, can't unlock the domain though.
