When you had 1500 domains and three full time workers I asked you:
and you gave me a non-sequitor response.

Now you have 8000 domains? I’d ask the same question again.

After renewal costs on 8000 domains (still mostly not dot com?) and you have how many full time workers now, FIFTEEN, is there any net profit? With renewal costs of 8000 domains, If you were in the US: Paying for such workers in the US there would definitely be no profit left.

I guess i have replied the same multiple times . I hardly renew 5% of my domains. I try to sell them to end user or liquidate in bulk or let them expire in first year itself.

Still, buying 8000 non dot com domains and paying for 15 full time workers...claiming all that revenue is not the full picture or even a sliver of the picture my friend. In the US you’d be completely underwater.

    First all are .com domains.
Second yes i am not based in US , its viable for me and may not be for you. You are free to explore options as per your convenience.
Third If you have read the post properly than i am developing lots of my domains so all 15 workers are not involved purely in domaining.
Lastly everyone has their own model and way of functioning. I never suggested anyone including you to follow mine. I am personally still learning and exploring lots of things.

    In this thread
    https://www.namepros.com/threads/50-to-5k-journey-of-2-years.1103302/page-5#post-6941220
you had said mostly not dot coms I’m happy to hear that you’ve upgraded to dot coms.

But your answer today is pretty much the same as it was then.

Also if as you say you plan to focus more on development of unsold domains, renewal costs will become an issue. Which even acquisition costs of 8000 domains is substantial.

I am not knocking what you’re doing just trying to understand the bottom line here.

He gave number data in some other thread when I asked him. His costs were very low. I believe he netted 2-3k a month back when I asked him, which should be amazing for India (if I'm not mistaken that he's from India) and he probably earns more now.

You underestimate the power of low cost labor and hand regs. I believe he said 10% of his domains sell. The calculations checked out. I can find the post if Rohit allows.

Congratulations on your success and thank you for sharing the information with us @rohitgoyal.

In addition to the ones you fully develop with extensive content, I noticed that you create a one page site for a number of geo. Is that for revenue generation or to get the name noticed to increase sales likelihoid, and do you find the effort worthwhile?

I agree with your comment that different people can have domain success with different models, something easy to overlook.

Best wishes for an even more successful 2020!

    Bob

That is exactly what came in my mind while reading openning post.

@rohitgoyal congratulations on expanding your business I wish best of luck & success for you, can you share your net profit overall since you started in 2017? or is it still not profitable yet? I know that some business models may not be profitable at first and may give ROI after several years like 3 to 5 years.

There are basically 3 reasons for developing those domains into micro niche single pager sites..

    1. I have always been a big fan of developement and believe that actual value of domain is only after its developed.

    2. I have parked my domains and installed google analytics. I noticed that i have been recieving approx 8-10 type in traffic per month even for my emd and geo domains. So i thought of experimenting with creating landing page and try to collect leads and than sell them to affliate companies. Options to monetize increases manifold if u develop your domains.

    3. Since i am basically into outbound and normally sell my domains in xxx range. Many times my buyers themselves ask me if the domain recieve traffic or whether i can help them in developing the same. So i felt it would be worth a try to develop and rank them as normally competition for geo domains are very low.

Hope that answers your query. Happy new year to you too , i really enjoy reading your posts.

2017 was a loss. I break even in 2018 and made slight profit. I have been in healthy profit since beginning of 2019 with approx 40% profit margin. My monthly expenses are low so my present ratio is decent.

Trying and working to grow it multifold in 2020. It wont just be focussed on domaining but rather would try to explore all related options and possibilities. Main focus would be on development.

that is great.. IMO if it is working for you dont change anything, just expand.

If it aint broke dont fix it

As for developement it is not worth it these days for small blogs. If you want to develope then Quality is better than Quantity.. only focus on 1-3 high quality domains and develope them into big websites.. other than that is waste of time.

Why is it that in domaining it seems ok to ask someone how much profit they made or how much money they made this year or last year ? I don't know what it's like in the states but here in the UK if a stranger asks how much money you make, the answer would be f off and mind your own business

Firstly congrats @rohitgoyal on a fantastic year, hope 2020 is even better!

Very true, I would never disclose the exact amount I make each year and could never ask someone how much they make :xf.confused:...it's not very "British" :xf.laugh: I am happy to say if I'm in the red or black but my money is my concern.

I am impressed that people are happy to share the specifics but it is not for me...

There is no harm in having queries or asking questions but what matters is that what we ask and how we ask...
