.app .APP Registration

Now that .APP is rolling out I thought I'd share a little of our position in .APP domains. I'd love to know what others are doing.

We budgeted just shy of $100k for .APP domain registrations. Several we've already acquired and several we've missed. I'll update our pickups as I can without giving away our position. So far I will share that we picked up:
  • Wedding.app

Trademark Claim
I do have a domain that we registered that has to pass their trademark claim process... it is very generic, not sure who decided to try to call it a trademark, we shall see.

Our Why
To sum it up, Google is our why. I became a domainer back in 2000, when the domain really mattered in SEO. My hunch is that Google won't be able to resist giving some type of preference to quality .APP domain.

Even a small advantage in the SERs or even the Play App Search results, make generic .APP domains valuable.

I wonder what porn.app or gamble.app could go for..

I was looking at takeout.app. I just registered socialmedia.app. Crazy it only has a $17 renewal.
So it was YOU who stole SocialMedia.app from me?! How could you?!

$12 at 1and1.
For non-premium domains.

Another thing to consider about downloading an app from a webpage as opposed to an App Store. If you use a .app page it would be ignostic - IE you can download an android app & iOS app from one place as opposed to two app stores. This benefits both the site owner as they have consolidated coverage as well as Google since they'd have a touch point into the Apple App Store.

Also as someone mentioned here the app stores are highly competive for keywords and with .app you'd have more control over SEO / PPC / social media marketing etc.

Dieting.App looks like it's still available. Does it go to auction with other buyers as bidders??

Also you can track users before they go to download page on your .app with pixel targeting and can be very useful for buying media.

Just 3/100 good reasons why .app can prosper

Yes, it is available.
Looks like preorder until May'8... so may be other winner as well (if other registrar will be faster).

The only one reason is important for domainers: the aftermarket results (inquiries/sales, their volume and average price).

Dieting.app has gone now. Whoever mentioned that one let the cat out of the bag :wideyed:.

Shame I didn't check it's availability.

In other news, I just noticed that Menu (usemenu.com) have snapped up Menu.app. Another example site that have a mediocre .com and are now using a generic .app.

Here are some more that are dumping their existing names and redirecting to their .app names:

stepsapp.io --> steps.app
usemenu.com --> menu.app
janeapp.com --> jane.app
cash.me --> cash.app (Square Inc.)
cardsapp.com --> cards.app
transitapp.com --> transit.app
wearepickle.com --> pickle.app
stylexfer.com --> art.app
getplusone.me --> plusone.app

Some nice .app switch ups!

songs.app
joke.app
jokes.app
All are premium renewal.

New to the domain investing game. I bought over 30 .app domains. 15 will be using to actually create apps around (already have 4 apps in top 200 free apps.)

Thoughts on a few I’ll share:
Rewards.app
Miner.app
Homework.app
Grants.app
Atm.app

So we see end user adoption for xyz/pro domains. That's why they sell.

How much do you think a domain named AppABC.XYZ or AppsABC.XYZ would sell for given the frenzy for .app right now.

Does someone know if .app listable at afternic or sedo ?

Sedo says that any .app domain is invalid, also it's not in their list in their search.

It doesn't matter. Afternic and Sedo will support it in future. But the matter is who will purchase?

Hello,
Nice to read about .app was looking for quite a bit domains myself in fact but the EAP seemed very high on various domains which didn't make sense unless I had something going with them.

tried to look out for Billing.app and almost decided to buy and bam it was gone i think the renewal was almost 250US$ but the EAP was 1200 roughly I feel it was one of the best .app because many apps want to generate money out of apps.

also had interest with Hive.app (since I own hive.me) and wanted to use it for our future project but the EAP was way too high to get it almost 1200

we have created a small billing site for our company and it has really turned out nice and wish to market it in public thought it would be a perfect match but I guess as speculation went around for .app it got taken before we could add it to the cart.

it was really funny to read about dieting.app the guy who posted it here initially or talked about it was a pure genius, always remember to keep things to your self until they are in your hands it can not only make you a better person by being patient but a wealthy person too :)

anyways good luck to everyone.app :)

I am about to pull the trigger on couple of .app domains. Sort of calculated risk.

I am about to preregister these at name.com. Can anyone confirm if the SSL is included in their preregistration fee of $14.99, because in GD it is.

TIA.
