I ran across this auction in eBay and thought I'd share the info. This is *not* MY auction nor do I endorse it, but hey the buy-it-now was only 99 cents, so I gave it a try.

Here is the text of the auction:

You are bidding a special promotion offer to get up to 50 new domain registrations for free!

This offer is not good for transfering existing domains. This promotion is a Email-In-Rebate offer. You pay $2.95 per domain now, and email your information for rebate, then receive $2.95 back via paypal after 30 days. $2.95 is already 60% off the lowest domain registration on the Internet. Now it is even better, you got it for FREE!

The information you need to submit for rebate are:
1 The domain which you registered through this offer.
2 The date you registered the domain.
3 Which paypal account you want to receive the rebate.

My ebay feedback is 100% positive with 100 score.
My paypal is business paypal with more than 4 year history.
Bid with 100% confidence!

After winning, you will receive a special link and instruction to register the $2.95 domain and get the $2.95 back in 30 days. There is no hidden or addtional charge you pay.

No Scam!, No Kidding! You receive 50 domain registrations for FREE!

Feel free to PM me to see how this develops. I'd be glad the share the URL.

The auction can be found at this link

Looks like they'll be selling yahoo domain registrations, getting their affiliate $'s, and then kicking some back to you.
The normal caveats: yahoo domains. "rebates". And affiliate links not creditting correctly coupled with this guy going after a few cents profit per domain name registered seems like he might be a teenager with little reason to honor any deal ;)
Just my observations, and not a business model that has gone unnoticed by many before.

mmm...interesting. the guy has mega feedback so maybe he is telling the truth? Have you given it a try. There must be some catch as there is no such thing as a free luch as they say :)

considering the costs of domains (registry , registrar) this is a very fishy "offer" ...

also , Yahoo has a limit one domain per new customer for their $2.99 offers ...

also , check the aboutme page of the seller ...
(besides the general uberoppontunistic style , the "Anything for $0.10 including shipping" possibly means that he is "buying" feedback ... rather expensive too , in comparison to the $0.01 ebook(-feedback) sellers , which is another questionable practise (irrelevent with this seller though))

furthemore , he has 9 bid retractions in the last 6 months ... usually even 1 is untrustworthy ...

lastly , you first pay the company and then expect a rebate from him ... if he doesn't send you the rebate in a month , what are you gonna do ? sue him ? the company , as it appears form the description of the auction , won't have any kind of obligation towards his "offers" ...

I think Godian hit the nail on the head. I know this is a trite phrase but it seems to almost always be correct. If it seems too good to be true, it probably is. There's just too much that could go wrong.

And another thing I'd like to point out. A lot of people on ebay leave the feedback fairly quickly and if they're not paying much, then they'll probably be happy even without everything promised.

There's just not that much profit to be made for him especially which always makes me suspicious.

Thanks, all, for the relevant and appreciated feedback! I'll update the progress of this topic. I'm willing to risk $3 to see what the scoop is :hehe:

Aight, then risk another $3 and bet me that I'm a right ;)
Just don't buy all of those domains and expect things to be kosher, that's all B-)
