iPower.com - $2.95 domain per year - BAD COMPANY or UNWAKEN GIANT?

I don't understand... is this for real? have any of you tried it, is there a catch? try it, www.Ipower.com, they offer $2.95 per domain name you buy.

If anyone has tried it, please tell me if it works good, please tell me the goods and bads of iPower. I would love to make an account there and start buying!

Horrible company. Don't be fooled by the price.

Why?
I don't mind them not having good customer service... but what's so bad?

I think there's like no free push (maybe no push at all) so you can't really sell domains you bought from there.

Do a search for Ipower.com in this forum and you'll see all the problems.

stay far away from iPower...you'll be lucky if they actually register your domain names, and assuming they don't, you'll be lucky to get thru to anybody willing to help you

Its possible that if you purchase a hosting product with a domain name they might actually care about you. I never tried that

I've tried it before, and its awful. When you first register the domain, they assume that you will be using it with their hosting, so you can't even change the nameservers, whois, etc. Then, in order to get access to this, you have to email them, and it usually takes 1-2 days for them to give you access to the openSRS control panel, or sometimes the customer support agent won't even know what it is you're talking about. Then, once they give you access to openSRS, its locked and you can't change anything, so then you have to email them again and have it unlocked, which takes more time. You can't push domains, but you only get 1 domain per account, so I guess you'd just give someone the account if you sold them the domain.

Its awful, despite the price, stay away from iPower. Far away.

...well, I knever had those experiences.

I currently have 20 names w/IPower. In the beginning they were calling me, as GoDaddy does. When I would reg a name or two, the phone rang and they asked me "How did you like our service?" Well, the service is all automated, as is several other registars. BUT IPower is 1/3 the cost, but somewhat of a tech pain.
For each domain (so far in my experience it has been mutiply domains) an account is setup. Imagine the problem of knowing an account for one domain. Later tech was to help me out and merge some accounts.

For the price = 5 ***** For the support = 3 ***

I dont agree at all with all those bad words for them. The price $2,95 is only for first 50 domain names you regged with them, after that the price is around $8. And renew for all names is around $8.
You can change name servers, park domain at sedo or similar, and you can change owner and billing informations by yourself, but its recomended that when you sell the name, e-mail the person which is your personal support for your account with them ( i got one, i guess all should have, he e-mailed me without my request and told that he is my personal support for Ipower) and tell him that you sell domain(s) and that from now on you are not responsible for that domain and that you dont have any billing responsibility for that name.

Sorry for my english, is not fluent:)

I hope this help

If you have a few domains you manage, iPower *may* be worth your while - they are cheap, but lack decent management tools and seriously lack any level of efficient flow process. If, however, you have a portfolio of domains, FORGET it. I'd rather go to the dentist.

There's a lot of reasons places don't accept Paypal. Its cheaper to process credit/debit cards, and they don't have to deal with many of Paypal's problems, including their complete control over all of your funds. Its just as easy to pay with a credit or debit card, and in many cases, its easier for the company.

My experience was good with IPower. I have an account rep named Craig Maxwell that truely is a good guy. I own 50 domains with them and he merged them all into one account for me. When I called him and asked how to do bulk dns changes, he showed me and it was very easy. If you don't have your account merged, yes i see how it would suck. But simply call your account exec and request it to be merged. Then you will have one log in and one password and it works well.

Unfortanetely they had a lot of bumps in the road as they started out and now have a bad reputation. Like any startup, they had to get things sorted out.

The only downside is that they make me feel guilty having my domains there as, like someone else said, they keep calling to try to talk me into hosting. The upside is that, Craig said if I wanted to move my whole portfolio of 900 domains there, he can reset the renewing price to 6.95/year because the number of domains. I would too, except I don't see any advantage it has over my 6.95 enom pricing.

I say, give them a chance

ok, i have tried them but it was soo long ago I can't remember my experience. Al i know is that once i found godaddy i never looked back.

who knows maybe they are good now?

I mean how cheap do u have to be to turn your nose up at $3 domain? try it, if they suck never go back it's only $3 so I agree with the consensus to give them a chance to prove themselves.

If a purchase is urgent don't bother with iPower, IMO. I was going to buy a .com @ Godaddy a couple of months ago, but decided domain registration was domain registration and decided to reg the .com .net and .org for the same price @ iPower. I get sent an e-mail confirming the order, says in 24 hrs I will be sent log-in info to my new acct.

More than 24 hours pass, I don't receive anything, and the domain name still shows as 'available' on all domain sites. I call iPower, am put on hold for 20-30 minutes, and am eventually told that my name was definately registered, and that sometimes it took up to three days to set up an account. Over the next couple of days, no changes, tried to communicate with them via e-mail, no worthy responses really. Finally, after more than four days passed, I just decided to register the name (.com) @ Godaddy, and bam it was registered in one minute. Despite the fact that I had already registered it, according to iPower.

From there I just e-mailed iPower, told them I wanted to cancel the order, and let them know I would dispute any charges if they tried to charge my credit card anything

I suppose if your just reg'ing a name on a hunch it couldn't hurt to try out iPower
