Am I the only one that feels the numbers and values are looking suspicious. Given xyz history with using smokes and mirrors to market the name space I am a bit sceptical but can be convinced otherwise.
What is your gut feel? Last 2 weeks sales from same person Swetha DNGear
beacon.xyz $24,888
Genisis.xyz $21,399
Patron.xyz $9,888
Protocol.xyz $8,000
Split.xyz $7,888

cant u read? nobody ever asked her to share her roi... I just said without knowing it it is insane and irrelevant to conclude a given strategy is working or not..or..how well it's working.

this goes for all domainers

our individual sales only matter if roi after renewals etc is good.

this goes for u..me..Rick s... and everyone. I wonder why people dont get this.. sometimes on sale thread a guy posts sale ..without saying what it cost him..so no idea about roi...and he goes 50k..and everyone is like wow...super amazing ...yet the best seller..

but what what if he paid it 45k... do u have any idea.how much easier it's to sell a name paid 45k for 50k than to sell name paid 1k for 50k..

this is why roi is crucial..for individual sales... and for overall strategy ..come end of year..

anyway.. hope people see the importance.
I am partial to a bit of reading and I agree it is important.....but you do go on and on about it :xf.wink:

I think everyone knows how you feel - maybe you can stop with roi baiting/bashing for a bit?

This thread is started in very malicious tone and placing another member’s username with a first name in the title is even worse. I guess only her address is missing.

As for the frequency of her sales, I would ask myself another question. How many domainers I know holding over 16k of quality 1-word .xyz domains? I would say none. Not even 10%. Just my 2c.

Happy for the name to appear everywhere else and the vote is 80% it’s legit and I am a boreπŸ˜’

I am really amazed when someone posts such a question especially when @DNGear always post screenshots of her sales whether she is selling at afternic, dan or squadhelp. She is Queen of XYZ and accumulating these domains in the past many years when no one was interested in them and the result is currently she is having more than 16000 of XYZ domain names some are as good as Gold.

Sometimes I seriously think our community really need a Thought Leader who can think independently and provide honest guidance to our small community. Why because this type of question was never raised for .CO and .IO

Do you really know the country code .IO geographical location or any leader from this ccTLD?
Do you know that a piece of land in the Indian Ocean has only 3000 people?
Do you know that as per UN Tribunal this land belongs to Mauritius and not to the United Kingdom?
Do you know that in the next few years this land will transfer to Mauritius just like Hong Kong?

Given these backgrounds, you can imagine the SEO, Google search reputation and future prospects of IO extension. Still, the IO extension is selling at record price every passing day, why? Because of the sentimental value or perceived value because investor or entrepreneur think it as "I Own"

In branding, perception plays an important role sometimes more than the real value. BitCoin and recent rise of DogeCoin are some of few examples.

Now coming back to XYZ extension, first about Swetha of course she has the best collection of XYZ domain names and volume thus definitely, she has a better probability of sales. Now why XYZ is selling like a hot cake, if you observe carefully XYZ represents many options, providing you alternative x, y or z. An important and trending features of today where technology, people and society is moving from a centralised system to a decentralised system. No wonder most of these domains are acquired by cryptocurrencies, NFTs, DeFi and Blockchain related companies and the best part is all are owned by end-users and currently live. So unlike other extensions, it is used by the end-users.

Unlike many others being suspicious about her achievements, I get inspiration. I observed, carefully reviewed these sales feature and thereafter based on my own conviction started building my small XYZ portfolio. I invest in .com and normally avoid investing in IO or CO but I truly believe in this extension, I may be wrong but I am ready to take that risk.

Thank you Swetha @DNGear for inspiring us and following your own gut feeling. It really needs the courage to go ahead against the trend and conventional wisdom and we are proud that you are doing this single handle with .XYZ from last 5 years.

Thank you!

It's time to learn to make money with your own ideas.
Don't try to copy, because trying to buy some .xyz will not work. Such extensions need massive investment to get some profit.
I totally disagree with this tactic. Each seller has his special skills and secrets and talking to newcomers don't try this at home. Top tier investors like @Federer know very well what they are doing.
......................
At the end of the day, the hunt of ''what he/she sold'' can be more harmful than helpful, especially for people who don't want to work. Try to find your own signature guys and this kind of threads have a negative taste for sure.

I don't need to read the link......

Refer to to the Maritime Court ruling back in January - The U.K said it did not recognise the judgement as they took no part in the proceedings......that's how it stands and will continue to do so for quite some time......

Fair enough...I had no intention to hurt your or any colleagues from the UK sentiments. Just giving an example of an extension with a background which can't be considered as a strong (SEO, Google ranking) and still registering record sale.

Best wishes :)

The UK government is in the wrong imo - I'm not blinded by any sentimental nationalistic crap, but I'm taking the thread off track so will stop :xf.wink:

I don't really have any reason to believe the sales are not legit, but outside her sales it seems like .XYZ is almost a dead extension.

She has a massive quantity of single word terms. It is a law of averages.
With that many solid terms, priced and listed on major venues, some will sell even in bad extensions.

The key is the sales need to outpace the renewals. The small % you do sell needs to outweigh the costs of the vast majority that you don't sell in a given year.

I touched upon this above....the roi element for the purpose of this thread is irrelevant, not saying it isn't important (it is) but the OP has set this thread up in such a way as to question the validity of her sales.....it's not about roi.....

I agree. My point is just if you own a lot of single word terms in any extension, you will sell some of them.

They are only reporting the less than 1% that sell, not the 99% that don't sell. It is the same reason people question Mike Mann's sales.

Some people who don't deal in large portfolios don't really understand law of averages. It might look suspicious to some because of that.

You can sell domains at high prices if you own enough domains and have a low sell-through rate.

OK- that makes sense, didn't realise people think suspiciously like that......

Edit - kinda fuc**d up thinking about it....especially when proof has been provided

Edit - kinda fuc**d up thinking about it....

I have seen multiple people question Mike Mann's sales in the past as well.

He owns 350,000+ domains and reports the better sales.

Selling a small amount of domains for high prices on that type of scale is not that surprising IMO.

But, in fairness to people questioning them...There have been a lot of fake reported sales in the past meant to influence people. There have also been transactions that did not pass the smell test, things reported as sales that were more likes leases, or "sales" where you are basically putting money from one pocket into the other pocket.

I would be careful with the accusations unless you have something solid to back it up. Especially since this a smaller player, and it could damage their business.

In some ways, this forum isn't much different from the many searches people do for celebs' net worth. And even then you usually only see the positive things, not the struggles.

DNGear: I believe your story and wish you every success in continuing this success :xf.smile:

It's more on when proof has been provided and people still question it that's odd...... hence the edited part after a quick think......

Thread Apr 26, 2018: Why I registered 20,000 .xyz domain names
I thought I was smart, it was like an aha moment, like when that guy bought 12,150 cups of chocolate pudding and earned 1.25 Million Air Miles. This was back in June 2016 and .xyz domain name extension was having a sale at Uniregistry and every .xyz domain name that was available to register would cost $0.01, one penny.

(She spent $500.000 on 18.000 names)
(Darryl spent $200 on 20.000 names)

I read her interview She started purchasing XYZ domains during the same promo when it was offered for US$0.01 but unlike Darryl who invested mainly in number combo and didn't renew after the first year, she invested mainly in one-word dictionary words and gradually build her portfolio to the current level of 16000 in 5 years. She also mentioned in one interview that she dropped more than 50% of non-performing domaining every year and renewed only quality domains. So I don't think the cost of annual renew would have been a major issue especially considering no competition back than one can drop and again re-register with some new promo offer.

I believe she derived a well-defined strategy that suits her objective and maintains a healthy profit margin during the last five years. There are so many good things to learn if we can see and read between the lines.

Instead of criticizing someone for being successful we should all try to learn from their achievements.

There are a few factors that make this person or any other person who has taken a chance with a new trend, niche, or TLD successful:

1- Being able to get in at the beginning of the game before competition heats up

2- Being able to take advantage of special prices and promos to lower the cost of acquisition

3- And thus being able to get a large number of quality domains

4- And most importantly being lucky enough for the end user market for the domains to heat up to bring in enough capital through sales to keep the game going and or even being able to expand the operation.

The 4th factor is specially important because there have been a lot of people who have managed to get the first three factors right, but the end user market didn't heat up quickly enough for them to help them maintain their large portfolios and they got drowned under the renewal charges.

So if a person has managed to get all these four factors right that is cause for admiration.

PS: These same factors have also played a role in how a lot of the Oldtimers became successful in the past with the difference that their job was easier since they could rely on revenue from parking to get their portfolio going and as such they had longer staying power and their fate wasn't completely dependent on whether they could make enough sales or not.

IMO
