So Squadhelp did a post on why people got into domain investing. They actually asked the question on Twitter. Tell us why you became a domain investor in 10 words or less? Some of the answers included: “a domain like an idea can change the world” “Because I wanted to be my own boss.” “Recognition […]

I started a domaining business because i believe in the power of domain names...and to create another income stream for myself to become more financially secure and independent.

I have two other businesses (a cleaning business and a linen hire business) so having more than one income is great! The 2008 financial crisis taught me to never rely on only one income stream for my survival.

Some went into domaining to give SH 25 to 35% of all their sales. 😉

Well, I think SH can justify the 35% they charge, because they actually advertise the domains. Unlike others that depend 100% on your inbound traffic and still charge 20-32%

Because I love domains. To me, it’s often a treasure hunt. But I don’t love them enough to not let them go.

At first it was because of VR, my belief that VR is the future (still believe that) and wanted to get involved in some way and hopefully make lots of money doing so.

Other than the very best keywords (ie video/games/360/p*rn/casino) i don't see much demand in the future for VR domain names, even though i believe in the tech.

But investing in VR and making some mistakes investing in VR this as broadened my horizons to investing in other things and i have been involved in 5 and 6 figure deals in the 5+ years of investing in domain names and I own 1 or 2 other 'potentially' (i highlight the word 'potentially' as nothing is guaranteed) valuable assets that people here have valued 6/7 figures.

I think domains is one of few industries where people can make huge ROI or in some cases become rich no matter background and full time occupation is, you can't just do that though, you do have to know what your investing in, but anyone has potenital to do that no matter background or where you live in the world and that is my interest in domain names, that 'hope' it can give people in all walks of life.

I started as a domain collector. Then I realised that some domains can be sold for nice money, just like any other collectible. And that money can buy me more nice domains for the collection. So I guess that makes me an "investor" now.

Aiming for a better future.

And discovered it fits like a glove.

I purchased domains to use for a virtual reality tours business.

Twenty years down the track and I'm now considered to be an investor.

It was never my intention... it just worked out that way.

If I had planned on investing back then, I would have purchased other (better?) names.

To challenge all with one domain name that nobody can top (but anyone can try to buy).

It afforded me the opportunity to put some of my creativity into action. And if I could make a few dollars at the same time, all the better.

I like to travel. A lot. And when I travel, I like to eat well. And to drink well :)

Therefore, few year back I looked into some "online business", to generate some additional income.

Found this great forum, with some wonderful people ... after that domaining became an addiction.

Residual income! Earlier this week I sold a domain while I was out for a run.
