Why did you purchase that domain? Did you actually think about it first? How long did you take to contemplate your purchase? Did you research the name, phrase or keywords first? If it was a new gtld, is the same name registered in .com? Do you actually know how new gtld’s are supposed to work? Would you really go to a website with that name?

Think first before you go wasting your money on garbage.

Enjoyed the article and I'll add a few reasons I purchase domains:

I do use some new gtld names as re-directs to appropriate websites;

I did buy some other new gtld names that are speculative holdings and yes, their .com counterparts are reg and unavailable or expensive;

I do acquire an occasional name in the king to remove it from the competition pool.

And I tend to overthink name buying these days rather than purchasing every random thought that comes to mind as in some years past.

You've provided a nice primer on pre-purchasing domain names.

I skim read that article, and I wasn't sure if it referred to buying names (ie. already registered), or picking up unregistered names. Sometimes I register a name that is available just to see if it gets any action. .coms are fairly cheap, and I can afford to try "throw away" names. It would probably be worth offering them for sale after six months if I don't plan to keep them.

Of course, the name needs to make sense, and the article is useful to help assess this.

A domain is what a person makes of it

When i come across an idea i simply think through the concept and buy the .com domain of the idea / concept of the idea i just had etc

I registered xyz1.com because I saw that a lot of tutorials used it as an example name, and I wondered what the traffic would be like. I didn't really think about it - I just wanted to see what the associated activity was. :)

My favorite names to register are one, two word generic domain names like humor, noobs, clans I use to own these words years ago in .ws, .net

About research I check the wayback machine, trademark, search result and google trending, I check appraisals @ estibot and a few other places and one more that I like is sedo I would enter the domain name like I am adding it to my account on the 2nd page it gives you an appraisal of the name.

I can see City Car Clean as a brand for those car park car cleaning services that seem to have appeared in all the English supermarket car parks.

We have them in Scotland too.

. It’s better to spend $500 on one or two really good .com domains than 20 new gtld’s that make no sense at all and will never sell.

Enjoyed that tip.. 20 of those new extensions at renewal time can cost way more than the $500 com at renewal

all domain buys must be done in a system. if the system works - you can buy as much domains as you can afford. if you dont have a system, you must not buy domains

"I recently bought CityCarClean.com! Car cleaning/valeting company based in the city? What city? Any city! Any car valeting company based in any city in the world can use this. Then it’s off to name bio to research the keywords for similar sales"

Thanks for the read, would you not go to NB first though? However, I did see CityCarClub.com $7,000

I purchased it because it was available
I purchased it because it was cheap
So want if it makes sense
I didn't care to check if it should be plural or not
I didn't care about the extention
I didn't care that the name wasn't proper English it was only 1.99 I didn't care and I don't care

Can anyone tell me why I haven't made a sale? I'm struggling

Why did you purchase that domain?

Because eBot said it was worth $1000s.

The OP also asked -- Did you actually think about it first?

No.

Live and learn ;)

Best,
Paul
