i have used godaddy for the past 4 years or so and in general like them. I have one or 2 names at namecheap, just from buying domains off others, and their control panel and basic stuff seems a lot more streamlined and user friendly.

should i switch to namecheap? what can they offer/what about them is better than godaddy?

Personally. I like being able to call up my registrar 24hours a day and get someone who speaks english as their first language... thats just me though.

Have you tried Dynadot ? They are the finest registrar IMO by far, fast, superb service, friendly, they make GD look like a sad lumbering dinosaur. Do yourself a favour and give them a try.

actually i was looking for some responses from people who use namecheap regularly, and have tried both, so i can know what's better/worse about either of those 2 in particular. thanks though.

Why limit yourself to only two choices? I recommend DynaDot.

^ I second Dynadot.com. They do everything right, except their prices could be a bit lower, but they have good prices on .info and .us lately.

I use both registrars. I like both. GoDaddy for prices and great CP for managing multiple domains. NameCheap for good CP, easy checkout. GoDaddy ToS are much harsher than NameCheap, but this may not be much of a problem for you (it isn't for me). GoDaddy checkout is a bit of a pain (until you get used to it).

I recommend Godaddy to everyone who is starting off

-GoDaddy is cheaper with their ubiquitous coupons, unless you need privacy which namecheap offers for free
-Both are slow as hell, but GD is still faster
-Namecheap is an ENOM reseller, so they can't beat GD's prices
-Everyone operates a large percentage of their portfolios in GD, so it's the easiest registrar by far to use for domaining
-Everyone complains, but it really isn't that hard to use the GD interface
-GoDaddy has monkeys for support, but I haven't used namecheap's support so I can't make a good comparison

Godaddy is the cheapest registrar overall because they have so many domains they get bulk discounts from some registries (especially .info which is why they sell it for so cheap). Price isnt always the most important thing but there isn't any reason to not use GD and price is good so they are my main registrar.

Namecheap is a registrar now and new names registered/transferred there should be under their registrar.

Once I had trouble - somebody stole domains from my panel in Godaddy and Namecheap. I wrote to both. Namecheap fix it in 24 hours, GD told me to fill out some forms, and I didn't receive my CCC.com untill today.
After that I transfer out all domains from GD.
I really like namecheap - I think they got best support. You pay more but if there is some trouble, they will help you I'm sure.
You'll recognize best registrar when you'are in trouble :tu:

:) Godaddys specialty. I was having ping pong with about 5 different support employees there lately. My browser just crashed while adding CC and i had 2 e-mails about purchase. So I wrote them if there were 2 payment to refund one. Their support wrote me that they have canceled purchase of that domain. I need to wrote about 9 e-mails with 5 different people until the last one did understand engish lang. . So while I was writing novels with Godaddy support, the domain was taken by next bidder and I've lost domain with some 6000 UIPs/month estimated.

BTW Namecheap got expensive renewals, so I'd rather stick with Moniker or Name.com,

Namecheap is great. Their prices are higher than GD, but their system and interface are very intuitive and easy to use.

Godaddy's prices are better, but I have had trouble with their screens loading properly, and even being able to find the correct link sometimes. However, GD is more universally used, so that can be an advantage if you are doing many domain transactions.

You can't go too wrong with either, in my opinion.

If given a choice, I'd take NC over GD any day.

Godaddy pricing

Godaddy pricing is better IF you can find the right coupon. BUT Godaddy is terrible for .biz renews.

I wish Namecheap offered up more coupons (are Namecheap folks reading this thread????).

For me the Namecheap cpontrol panels just loads much betterr on my Mac.

In my opinion, Namecheap is many levels above GoDaddy. The customer service is friendlier and generally more helpful. Much more importantly, GoDaddy has an overzealous legal department that does not hesitate to pull domain regs based on their own whims. I encourage everyone I know to stay far away from GoDaddy and in fact encourage them to use Namecheap due to problems I've had with GoDaddy multiple times now.

I'm in a similar conundrum... have been with godaddy.com for many years but as a web developer, using their slow, cluttered, completely un-user-friendly interface just makes me sick so I'm looking to switch. If they would just drop one superbowl commercial per year and higher some good usability experts and web designers godaddy could really be great. Anyway, I transferred 1 domain to namecheap and 1 to dynadot just to try them both out. Both are far superior in terms of usability. dynadot's management interface is not nearly as mature and refined as namecheap but it is fast and it works. I was also amazed to get a real person on the phone withing 3 rings when I called. namecheap on the other hand was much quicker to respond to an email question. dynadot transferred my domain about 6 hours faster than namecheap (I think their system is completely automated while namecheap may require some manual processing because I initiated the transfer at about midnight and dynadot was finished by 2AM while namecheap didn't transfer until the following morning). I also purchase ssl certificates quite frequently and namecheap has much better pricing and selection for those... so at this point I'm really torn with who to go with, but I think I'm leaning towards namecheap.

NameCheap is much more pleasant to use, and also support is better. Re prices: if you have more than 50 domains with them, just ask support, and you will get a permanent coupon for 10 percent reduction on all registrations, transfers, renewals (reduction on full prices, not on reduced ones, obviously).

namecheap's support is better haha thats funny
and you say you called namecheap i could not find a contact number any where on their site when u click contact us it goes to support.namecheap.com with no contact info just a live support link
and the "live support" offered me no support
they responded "we do not offer support on domain transfers" wtf
call godaddy and ask them for support on transferring a name to namecheap and you will get support! (I did)

name cheap is the only register i have had any problems with
tho nothing major yet
tho still waiting for a domain transfer(its only been about a week)

and 10% off is still over priced compared to my godaddy rates
so i think i will be pushing my all my other domains out of namecheap soon! :|
