It might do well to read the register reviews here at namepros where many members have rated various registrars. Otherwise you will get the preference of one or two responders to your post.

Good advice.
But I will give you my 2 cents for free, and it probably will not be too far off from other's opinions.
Namecheap has a very good reputation, Godaddy less so but not bad. I use both and have been happy with both. The Godaddy site is more complicated and full of advertisements but, as if to compensate, they are cheaper if you get a coupon code that works (last time I checked hash3 worked to get $7.20 .com names)
The lowest .com price you can get with a coupon for namecheap is $8., as far as I know. Look through the back pages of this board or search google for "namecheap coupon" - the Godaddy coupon thread is always on the first few pages here because they have so many everchanging coupons.
Be aware that some Godaddy discounts involve purchasing other stuff, if you are not careful you will be billed for renewal of those extras next year. Personally I do not like to accept offers that I do not intend to use and, if satisfied, renew.
So imo Godaddy and Namecheap are cool. What about Registerfly? Registerfly offers domain specials for less than their cost. All registrars pay $6.25 for .com (resellers pay more than that). Granted that they are not your uncle, why would they do that???
Search back on this board. There are several threads of Registerfly horror stories. You do not want to get involved in that mess.
