I think i have learnt that domaining is still very much unknown

I have also learnt not to get stubbon and reg 'something close' to what was my original thoughts, ......just because the one i wanted was already gone !

Read. Read. Read. and keep reading.

Always learning something new either here at NP or at other DN blogs etc.

Have a strategy . . and be picky about your domains.

Only select quality domains to invest in. Don't invest in stuff that really isn't going to sell for much or be a really hard sell.

The more you read the more you learn and the easier you can tell if a certain domain is good or not.

I'm still learning. . . and still reading :).

I've learnt many money-saving things! One of the most important things is not to 'follow the hype'. The most notable example of this is the 3D hype: while it makes sense to reg '3D + keyword' domains where 'keyword' can be in someway related to 3D, it makes me laugh when I see certain random 3D domains.

Aha yeah I never really did get the 3D hype, is cant really say what ive learned, I take it for granted automatically and push it to the back of my mind were I re-call it when needed, ready to suck up more knowledge, this place is great though I feel more at home here than I do at any other domaining community's.

well, i feel cautious offering advice to anyone with 5000+ posts (!), but i've learnt

- avoid names that 'could' have a site made for it, and stick to 'objective value', ie. high searched keywords, common company names or acronyms, or common phrases (that have more liquidity)

- beware of anyone offering to sell large amounts of people domaining information

- develop your names and hold for the long term (unless fads). developing helps you get into the mind of an end user. and the worst problem you'll have is sitting on a pile of money earners.

- offer real value to resellers (for me, website development customers) and you will never be short of business

- be courteous and helpful to anyone you deal with

- share your info with others

- be prepared to swap, haggle, deal, and work cooperatively

- plan your day before you start, so you don't trawl the web mindlessly

- find the best, few good tools to find names (pay for them if necessary)

- work towards names and sites you have an interest in (to get more than money for your efforts)

- follow warren buffet's rule: make a minuscule amount of buys. but when you see a bargain (whatever price bracket), buy hard. it's foolish to think that you can beat the market and spot deals all the time.

- there is a few more i put on namehugger.com

- good luck!

The best lesson I ever learned was taking yourself out as the seller and putting yourself into the buyers shoes. I always ask myself is this a domain name an end-user would want? Is there a reason that this domain name would be chosen over another, and if so - whats the difference in value between this domain and the next.

still a newbie and still continuously reading through forums and articles i find regarding domaining.

-learned the values of keyword rich domains.
-appraisals aren't as valuable as they claim to be according to many.
-not everything will be flipped for xxxx or even mid xxx like many articles promised and it takes a lot of patience and good discretion on how to value your own domains.
-always better to sell it than hold on to it hoping for a miracle to happen.

i've learned a few tips in finding those promising end users though my efforts have been leading me to nothing so far. still, i aim to go out and try a bit more with different ways to maximize the full potential of moving in this field :D

I have learned to be very careful and avoid crossing into TM territory. Before registering a name, I carefully research that it is TM free. That is the best way of securing your investment. There are many unregistered names that appraise for thousands, but when you look at them carefully, they are TM names.

still surprising at how many tm domains are seen here , mostly new guys , they must not have read up before they start

what I’ve learned is that it is kind of an addiction, once you start, it's hard to stop even if you're not making any money :)
