On Wednesday I ordered 12 .eu pre-registrations at godaddy.com. My credit card was charged $239.40. Three days later all 12 pre-registrations are still shown on the godaddy website as being 'available' for pre-registration. In the last three days I have sent five emails to godaddy's customer support asking them to explain why these names were shown to be available when I had paid for pre-registration. With each email I sent off my customer reference number, a domain name in question and a polite letter. None of my five emails have been answered. Yesterday, after I submitted an email a message came up saying there was a one hour response time, and for another email it stated there would be a 4 hour response. Obviously, none of these message were true because a day later I have not received any response.

Can anyone explain why godaddy are acting in this way?

I also notice on the godaddy website the name "eurid.eu" is shown to be available. There is already a website on http://www.eurid.eu because they are the registry for .eu. There is no way this name is available or will ever be available. Yet, godaddy will sell you a pre-registration on this name for $19.95.

Nobody said that Godaddy was there to be Yourmommy. If you think that paying that $20 is going to get you any special priviledges or 'I will do my very best for you' fervor from the backend script writers, think again.

Many registrars are just strictly out there to make hay while the sun shines, take your money for nothing more than "I'll put you into my database", and laugh all the way to the bank.

Getting the name is not an obligation, let alone deliverable.

Be warned.

You can trust godaddy, just as any other registrar. They're not trying to trick you into anything as far as I know. All registrars can take pre registrations - they can however NOT promise you that they'll get the domain for ya.

As far as I understand with Godady they will take multiple registrations for the same domain name - If they secure the name and there are more than one person wanting it, it will go to a bid process - Just like Pool

I would cancel it if I were you, there are other accredited companies that "say" they are only taking 1 pre-reg per person, it is FREE, and if they get the name for you it does not go to a bidding system.

Think how much of other peoples money GoDaddy(and others) are holding onto for months and months - lots & lots of interest for them.

Some registers will not even give you all your money back if they don't get the name for you.

It's a BIG RIPPOFF

The rules are really easy:

Sunrise applications will be submitted in First-Come First-Served order to EURid when the registry opens on or about October 1, 2005 (subject to change). Once an application has been accepted EURid will contact the applicant with instructions for submitting proof of the rights claimed within the application to EURid's Validation Agent.
( this is NOT free of charge )

Pre-registration Applications will be submitted on a First-Come First-Served based when the registry opens for general registrations in the first quarter of 2006 (subject to change).
This is a multiple pre-registration, some registrars take only 10 pre-regitrations per domain , FREE of charge ( you might get the name, but who knows )

Nothing wrong the way GD deals with this!

Regarding the question who will eventually get the name, normally it should be offered to the first person who pre-registered. But, if this person then does not want the name it should go to the second interested person.

If they don't answer by email I recommend just calling their 24 hour toll-free phone number, if your out of country and their is a charge for this than stick with email.

I am in England and I would be very reluctant to waste even more money on a call to Arizona. Whenever, I phone a customer service department you do not get through straight away and are kept hanging on until an operative is available. If you are phoning 5,000 or 6,000 miles this is not a desirable thing to do.

I still have not received any replies to my emails. Maybe I will contact my credit card company and tell them of the problem.

One of the names I applied for is companionship.eu. I have companionship.co.uk. Another name I applied for is united-kingdom.eu. I have united-kingdom.co.uk. I also applied for bible.eu. I have the full King James bible and a website and I would use bible.eu as a gateway to this site. They wouldn't know about this website because they haven't asked. Am I the sort of person they want to stop getting decent .eu names?
