.EU domains and Lycos!

I just forund this written on this page: http://www.ovh.com/eu/en/faq.xml and it reads...

Is there a possibility of initial registration of .EU domain?

No. Actually, EURID does not propose the pre-recording of .EU domain names. The EURID specifies that every web-site proposing for a pre-recording on Internet had not received any official accreditation.

Lycos is offering pre registrations on domain names, does this mean that they are not going to be an accredited registrar?

Im confused...pre-recording... does that mean what I think it means?

Hi, You can find out accredited registers and correct facts on .eu registrations here

Lycos is not yet accredited that's true, many says they will never became but they are abig company so i don't think(i turst them more than godaddy and others the don't ask for money!)

The Following is a reply from Lycos when I asked why they were not accredited yet.


7 August 05

"We have not been accredited yet as the EU domains are only reservations at this time, no actual purchases are possible.

The registrar currently used by Lycos is United Domains as we only provide registration.

We hope this information is of assistance to you."

I assume it must be the following link, they are first on the eurid accredited list. Unfortunately for me it seems to be in German only, I can't find an english section at all. It seems that live registration starts in April 2006 !!
