On Wednesday I ordered 12 .eu pre-registrations at godaddy.com. My credit card was charged $239.40. Three days later all 12 pre-registrations are still shown on the godaddy website as being 'available' for pre-registration. In the last three days I have sent five emails to godaddy's customer support asking them to explain why these names were shown to be available when I had paid for pre-registration. With each email I sent off my customer reference number, a domain name in question and a polite letter. None of my five emails have been answered. Yesterday, after I submitted an email a message came up saying there was a one hour response time, and for another email it stated there would be a 4 hour response. Obviously, none of these message were true because a day later I have not received any response.

Can anyone explain why godaddy are acting in this way?

I also notice on the godaddy website the name "eurid.eu" is shown to be available. There is already a website on http://www.eurid.eu because they are the registry for .eu. There is no way this name is available or will ever be available. Yet, godaddy will sell you a pre-registration on this name for $19.95.

Want I really wanted to undestand is this: all the SAME big names have been pre-registed on Lycos, godaddy, pool and others.

Those who are not assigned on the sunrise, and make it till the first second of the after sunrise period, which of the registrars will get it? The faster one?
I would bet on pool, I've heard they make certain agreements...

Godaddy is a joke! Stay away is my advice.

And this is why, if you're smart, you don't backorder or pre-register. It's a risky gamble, and more often than not, a waste. Unless it's porn.eu, or poker.eu, don't bother at all.

I thought godaddy was the best domains site around...

ok. we can't do anything for you.

and you can't do anything either.

so let the $200+ be an expensive lesson.

Yo,

I never liked GoDaddy anyways. I'm with Misk (yeah prices are $10/year but i like it anyways).
Just wanted to give out a list (to those who don't know and i have seen a lot asking) about where to go to register .eu domains.. http://list.eurid.eu/registrars/ListRegistrars.htm?lang=en <-- Here is a list.
What i know about pre-registrations since i try to get some .eu domains is that you don't pay anything. I have on my wait list around 50 domains (now i might get none but who knows :D) and i didnt pay anything.. So try to do that with your GoDaddy lol. Btw Misk is not working with .eu domains not yet at least so i used another company (preferred a Greek one since I'm Greek) which i got from that link up there.

Cya,
NwS
