Hi Anant, try again now snd please let me know if it worked. The server of ns1 was replaced today.
Thanks, Reza. The earlier errors seem to be fixed now. But I get a different error now:

The following errors were found:
  • The nameserver ns1.undeveloped.com has not been registered
  • The nameserver ns2.undeveloped.com has not been registered
It appears that to register the nameservers with .is registry operator, they need a tech contact from undeveloped. The interface is terrible and not very easy to understand (at least for me).
Also, /cc @Jens P. Jensen from the .is registry

You are in a pretty unique situation, dealing with the .is registry, as they do things a little different than most other registries...

ISNIC is expecting to see Undeveloped's NameServers respond to an inquiry with your domain before they are going to let you add them.

I am not sure of how Undeveloped's internal code is setup, but have you added the domains to Undeveloped yet? If not - I would advise you to add it to Undeveloped, and then wait a couple of hours, and then try to set your nameservers at ISNIC.

Of course @Undeveloped can assist much more than I can...

Yes, the domain has been on undeveloped for months now (Specifically, added on Oct 6, 2016. But of course, I'm unable to point the domain to undeveloped

Couple more questions I have. I've tested by moving across some of my low quality domains, I'm basically starting from scratch so I've got to stalk godaddy auctions for good stuff... need to know the following:

1). Is the fee 9% or 15%? Seen conflicting info. Presumably it was 15%, now been reduced to 9%?

2). I've seen something about VAT being charged to sellers. I presume this is only levied on the commission element, and not the entire domain? So if I sell a domain for $1000 to a european buyer I am charged $90 + about $18 VAT..... not $90 + $200 VAT on the domain?

The UK domain space is a bit complicated at the moment (as you may well know?). A .co.uk domain registered before 2015 carries with it the rights to the .uk domain, and so many .uk domains are unregistered. In June 2019 (or somewhere around that time) those rights end, and the .co.uk owner has to register the .uk domain or it becomes available for public registration.

But there are of course .co.uk domains which 'drop' and at this point the .co.uk and .uk become seperated. So on DomainLore (wholesale / domainer marketplace) listings come in four forms, any of these:

a) .co.uk on its own
b) .uk on its own
c) .co.uk with .uk rights intact until 2019
d) .co.uk + .uk together

At the moment I have domains which fit category d. But for now I have just decided to list the .co.uk on undeveloped, and if I receive an offer it is a bridge we have to cross in negotiations perhaps. So if they offer $500 for the .co.uk and ask about the .uk, I can perhaps then offer the .uk together for $700 or something - so not a major issue for me personally. A solution to this for the next 18 months would help you gain traction with other UK domainers though I feel.

It would make a lot of sense. It would be frustrating for people to have a portfolio of $200 domains together with some $5000 domains.... and for the first 2 or 3 listings to be the rubbish ones. Just being able to control the first 2 or 3 results when unsorted would be good for the buyers perception of the wider portfolio.... plus most domainers have a good idea which of their domains are the most valuable, so taking that small section out of the hands of the algorithms would make sense to me? Visitors do not have to know that these first couple of results are manually selected by the seller.

Thanks again for the feedback! There are definitely some improvements possible for .co.uk / .uk names.

Hi Anant,

Please send us (via support) anything we need to do to help you out here. If we need to register contacts with the registry, we'd be more than happy to do that.

Kind regards,

1: The commission is 9%.

2: VAT is only charged if that's required by law for European customers. Since we invoice your buyers on your behalf, if you have to charge VAT from your buyers we'll collect it for you and forward it to you.

However, in some non-common cases, we're obliged to charge VAT over our commission. If you're a UK seller with a valid UK VAT number we'll charge 0% VAT over our commission. If you're a private seller (non-business seller) then we'd have to charge your local VAT rate.

The full picture is pretty complex. For a guide check out this article from TNW: https://thenextweb.com/dd/2015/01/01/need-know-2015-eu-vat-changes-implemented-tnw/

Or send a message via support so our guys can tell you if VAT over your commission is applicable for your account or not.

Kind regards,
Reza

I'm happy to report that I added a small portfolio of a couple hundred names to undeveloped less than a month ago and just completed an end user sale. The whole process was very smooth, we're excited to continue using this platform.

You can now also add social media handles to the brand package that you're selling. We'd advise using this feature only if you actually have the exact corresponding social media account.

Is anyone else noticing really long load times on their names?

Yeah, I am also noticing load issues. For me, the search functionality isn't showing up results and even my portfolio page is taking too long and not loading at all.

I also as of the past couple hours can't delete names. I delete them, but they don't actually get deleted. I think Reza might've told me in the past that this can happen when there's massive portfolio edits going on.

The "unable to delete" problem appears to be fixed now.

Hi Nat,

We’ve added two servers again this morning. Traffic on hosted names on our servers + activity (bulk actions etc) have again increased faster than expected.

In the first week of February we’ve got a big infrastructure upgrade planned to fix these scale issues for the long term.

Always wait for the email confirmation when doing a bulk action. They’ll get processed eventually, sometimes it’s just too busy.

Apologies for the inconvenience, this frustrates me and my team as well but we’re just experiencing some growth pains that we have to go through. We’re on top of it and will create a better setup soon to avoid this type of issues.

Have a great weekend,
Reza

@Undeveloped - I've currently been using Undeveloped for a bulk of my domains and I'm a big fan so far, especially a fan of your landing pages. I just realized that two of my names will not upload into my portfolio because both of them are already for sale by two separate companies on Undeveloped. One of the companies has a large portfolio and the other company only has my name listed on Undeveloped.

I'm a fan of the site and I plan on sticking around but this bothers me. Is there going to be some sort of a self-verification method for domains that are uploaded?

Thanks for the feedback Will! Due to domains being dropped, resold to other sellers etc it's very hard for any marketplace to fully ensure accuracy there.

When you add domains, we always send you an email report. The domains that show as failed are listed in another sellers account. Simply use our chat widget or forward that report to [email protected] and our team will add the names to your account.

There are ways to automatically verify ownership (via A-records), however, that's also not an optimal model. You'd need to add a unique verification txt per domain to validate ownership. When you'd sell the domain to another domainer the same issue occurs if the DNS settings aren't cleared by the existing or new registrar.

So it's a relevant issue, but we haven't found an elegant solution yet for automatically detecting ownership. In 2018 Undeveloped is becoming a registrar, when that's up and running you could register your names with us which would help with automatic ownership verification.

I hope that clarifies it a bit.

Kind regards,
Reza

Just curious if your domain landing pages are generally indexed by Google and/or bing? The reason I am asking is that these types of pages have a lot of duplicate content and are hosted on the same nameservers, so they may not be search engine friendly.

Besides adding a logo and custom description, is there anything else that can be added to customize each individual domain landing page?

For instance, I would like to be able to edit the page title and the meta page description.

Is it possible to take the 'seller's notes' and also use that as the meta description of the page? Instead of the standard boiler plate meta description that is currently used. I want to make the landing page more search friendly.

Also since I'm not from EU, is it possible to remove the VAT thing altogether? It seems unnecessary and possibly confusing for buyers who are unfamiliar with VAT.

Lastly, is there anywhere to include a phone number so the buyer can call with questions?

Thanks!
