Anyone have experience transferring a domain with WHOIS Privacy enabled from GD to another registrar? Does Whois Privacy have to be disabled to transfer?

I'm trying to transfer from GD to NS, the name is in redemption w/ WHOIS Privacy. I Initiated a transfer at NS and received a notice they can't send confirmation to a domain with whois privacy? Since it's in redemption I can't turn off WHOIS Privacy off. Any solutions? I am still able to receive any emails being sent to domain@domainsbyprox... so I don't know what the problem is.

TIA

Yes. You will not be able to transfer a domain with whois privacy.

In Godaddy, you will not be able to remove whois privacy by yourself once the domain reaches its grace period

I have exactly faced this situation once, and you need to send a request mail to [email protected].

They will remove the whois privacy for the domain.

P.S.

In this situation you will be able to get the authocode and unlock the domain.

Sorry, but Godaddy's policy is to reject transfers for private domains (even if you can receive email to the domainsbyproxy.com address listed in WHOIS). This is not the case with most other registrars who do allow transfers with privacy remaining intact, but, unfortunately, Godaddy does not. We hope they consider changing their policy as we believe people should be able to maintain their privacy at all times if they so choose.

On the bright side, Godaddy does allow expediting outgoing transfers so your information would only need to be available in WHOIS for about 15-30 minutes before being able to complete your transfer and have privacy enabled at the new registrar. This is in most cases not enough time for WHOIS harvesters to capture your non-private information.
