Hello all,
i want to use whois privacy for my domain , but i read some articles that say that if im using whois privacy
im not the domain owner anymore(google "10 things you MUST know before you register domain")
is it really not recommended to use whois privacy ? i will lose the owenrship of the domain?
what alternative i can use?
thanks

Not true!

I -- and I'm sure a ton of other long term NP'ers -- use whois privacy on my dn's that are for resale.

BUT I don't use it on those domains that I develop. I personally hate it when I'm trying to assess the integrity of an unfamiliar website I'm about to submit personal details -- i.e. credit card info, SS number, etc.-- and find it has privacy in place. It definitely makes me question it's legitimacy!.

I currently use Namecheap as they have always done right by me but they also charge for the privacy.

Now that my names for resale outnumber those that I've developed by a sizeable margin, I'm thinking of moving to a registrar that includes privacy in the regsitration cost such as Epik or UniRegistry.

Whatever you do, I would suggest that you avoid 1&1 as they seem to have a problematic reputation.

The Registrar who provide Privacy always has your whois info at backend. You misunderstood it. By having a privacy on domain name. you will never lose ownership of the domain. Domain Privacy is just like a mask over your whois info to prevent any scammer or spam damages to your domain and misuse of your whois info..

You still own the domain but it is registered in the name of the privacy company instead of you.

This is still risky because the only information that says you are the owner is kept in the registrar's database, so in theory it could be stolen by an unscrupulous registrar.

If you decide to use privacy make sure you use a reputable registrar to be safe.

Namesilo is great and they have privacy free with your registration.

To protect from spammers and keep the domain from being stolen.

Yes, yes I know we must make it easy for someone to contact us, but there are other ways to do this.

Besides, most privacy services will forward the emails to you.

The best ones are Uniregistry and Namesilo because they are big name, reliable registrars used by pro- domainers and they have reasonable prices and free privacy.

Whois privacy will achieve none of this.
As for spam, the whois will simply list a made-up address that redirects to your usual E-mail address. A spam forwarder.

Maybe it's just me, but I have never received spam from any of my privacy protected domains
