We all know about the .mobi user mandate. And, about repeated attempts to mandate porn sites to .xxx. I have also read that China would like to mandate that businesses in China use .cn.

So... what if someone (not me) wanted a .mobi compliant porn site in China? (domain.mobi.xxx.cn)??

I'm am thinking about reg'ing a "4 letter word" .mobi and this issue, first raised by an someone at ICANN, as i recall -some years ago, came to mind.

Has this issue been addressed? Is there an alternate solution to tacking-on extensions with user mandates?

Only the actual TLD (".cn" in your example) would have the overriding say on any compliance issues. All the others are just directories of "xxx.cn".

China prefers its citizen users to have xxx.cn over xxx.com.

".xxx" was rejected as a potential extension.

Access by mobile device requirements pertain to .mobi sites, not "mobi" named subdirectories on other TLDs

Of course you already knew all this and the dry humor exhibited in your example is appreciated.

The only mandates ("development requirements") that I'm aware of, at least insofar as the Sedo auction Rounds I & II and Traffic Show that starts tom'w are as follows:
In addition, dotMobi has further, minimal, requirements for the buyer:

- Domain to be registered by auction winner within 10 days of receiving authorization code
- Site to initially consist of a dotMobi-compliant parking page
- Best efforts to create, launch and operate a live web site with relevant content within six months. (For example, acupuncture.mobi should not display a site for car sales.)
- Fully compliant site with an ready.mobi score of at least 4/5.

I would hope this would also be applicable, minimally, to example sub.your.mobi :gl: :imho:

If that's any assist.

Those specific development requirements apply ONLY to names now being auctioned/sold from the dotMobi "premium" reserved name list. There is no time limit on putting up a mobile compliant site with content for hand regged names. The general .mobi name use compliance details are covered at dotMobi's website. Feel free to reg away.

Righto, and exactly as I posted above ... "at least insofar as the Sedo auction Rounds I & II and Traffic Show that starts tom'w.", IMHO. :gl:

I do believe it would be better for the "ecosystem", however ... if ALL .MOBI domains required unique and compelling timely development (and promotion), in my view. Forfeiture of all .MOBI domain names could be the penalty for not developing, under such a scenario.

Not in my view, as the specific term "ecosystem" - and its importance for its future viability - had never been used before and so closely associated with a domain name extension, IMHO. This is now further evidenced by the fact that mTLD is now implementing these (minimal) "development requirements" - as they continue to recognize that the potential future of the .MOBI lies in its ability to establish and build and promote that "ecosystem"! :yell: :imho:

The importance of a developed (and promoted) .MOBI "ecosystem" has been my primary point throughout, and it is well chronicled, I believe, in these pages. :gl:

:music:

Yes, in the hottub now ... please see my Buyer's thread for any further updates, as I'm doing the best I can to keep that up-to-date - the verified / "reported sales" information forthcoming with the next DNJ update of 10/16, IMHO. :gl: :talk:
Thanks again.
