Further news, latest article was posted on Monday 15th January (2 days ago):

http://dotmobi.typepad.com/dotmobi/2006/11/do_the_latest_s.html:
a) their mobile browser has a fighting chance of rendering much web content,
b) it might not cost the earth
c) actually they can choose their own portal (perhaps one they use everyday on their PC)
d) certain sites, perhaps signified by .mobi for example, are going to give them a really decent experience in the form that suits their mobile experience.

(dotMobi Premium Names Update)
This small article also deals with .mobi rumours etc, and where .mobi stands, although i am not personally happy with some of .mobi's advertising so far for

me, as they should say "we are here for mobile content development/adherence for small screens!" meaning not all sites will be successful, but its too early

still to judge so i will not comment)

Other Stuff:

(Anyone have any views on the net neutrality stuff, i did come across this issue before, but as i live in the UK, i didn’t hear much,
Are these guys going about it in the right way in making the public aware, do they have any other interest in this?):

My opinion is: " we the consumer cant stop this" As control is always in their hands, they will simply justify through the comment: "we need to play big brother" But my question is: who watches the watchers?, lol, but i know this is a serious matter.

Oh nearly missed a bit:

comments by some one in reply to some person who doesnt feel that .mobi is required because of the fact that most wap ready mobiles can handle std websites, and more phones will be able to in the future:

Christopher,

I see your point of view.

But what I've been saying is that it's *not* just about whether the device can render the site (many phones can render almost any site these days. QED.)

What I am suggesting is that you'll choose to use a .mobi site not because your phone has a limited browser, or because you have a pricey tariff, but because you want to quickly get access to services that have been designed for use on the move ("the mobile context").

Take an average web site. Count the number of features it offers that are likely to be useful to you when you are mobile. Pretty few huh?

So perhaps .mobi can become a way of saying "it's just those!"...
...and not all that other (to-be-browsed-at-leisure) stuff that fills most sites.

Enjoy, and do let me know the you tube commentary, i don’t know the language as i said, so i am hoping you guys have friends or their is someone amongst us who has is a language guru.

Au revoir les gens
